Don't mess with fileplanet, go to http://signup.worldofwarcraft.com . The site has been up and down all day, but I did manage to get an account made. They do give you the CD key as you create the account, something like BLIZRD-OPEN-BETA-PUBLIC, so you don't need to worry about trying to acquire a "rare" fileplanet cd key.

Also if you are having problems getting the download client, shoot me an email. I can send you the client (its based on bittorrent) with no probs, its only 648 kb in size.

It should be noted that the beta is a 2.5 GB download (of the torrent variety). Not for the weak of heart or internet connections.

That being said, this game is going to consume my life for the forseeable future. I got to play on the final stress test, and it's just amazing. World of Warcraft is an apt phrase, as it's the world development that is awe-inspiring. I was worried about how well they'd be able to create the Warcraft feel in something that isn't a real-time strategy game. Well, they did it. All of it. And it's that simple.

My friends are already plotting various raids of Azeroth and other joyous activities. Oh, this shall be fun.

If I ever get this mmorpg, I'd most likely go with a night elf - druid, and an orc - hunter.

Sitting at 40% here. I figure it will be done by tomorrow morning at the latest. Luckily torrent downloads like this one can be stopped and restarted without losing what you've already DL'd.

I was in phase 2 of the closed beta, if anyone has any questions about the game.

I had to stop playing because it was taking up 4-12 hours of my day (plus I got a girlfriend and moved ).

I had something like a level 37 Orc Shaman, and had at least one character to level 8 for most races and classes.

Not sure how ethical it is, but switching your connection speed to "Modem" makes it go much much faster. When I DLed my phase, took a couple hours only.

Misha, what is your e-mail? I can't get the client download to work.

We popped it from a t-3 at hubby's work and I'm DL it from his laptop as we speak.

I have started the download, but am having a problem or three.

I tried to use bittornado to download it, but couldn't....and the downloader provided is eating my resource, and I can't find a way to restrict the upload speed so I can still use my computer.

Any ideas?

Its eating my bandwidth too, there doesn't seem to be a way to configure DL/UL speed on the downloader they provide. Luckily I don't have much time left on my download.

A friend of mine gave me their username and password to their fileplanet subscription, but it was gonna take longer to stop the current one and restart with fileplanet so I'm still hanging in.

BookWyrm, what connection do you have?

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

Mine took about 8 hours through the WoW installer. It's easy to restart, just double click on the installer again, and it'll pick up where it left off. I'm on server Test 9 if anyone cares to hunt quillboars with me.

I know, they say it might open later though.

What a waste of my time. I just finished the download, and now i can't play?

I won't be buying this one.

Funny, the WoW site was designed in such a way that you created an account first, then downloaded the beta. That way there wasn't any question as to whether or not you'd be able to play. Looked like a pretty simple and logical process when I went through it.

They changed it then, because that is where I got my download too. When I went into it, after installing the beta, it asked for a key code to create my account.

Is there a place where I can download the beta without having to sign-up, so that when regestration begins again I can join without download?

Just go to the link above, I think...I have the stupid thing on my computet now and can't play it...

Wyrm, Thanks, I just did.

The graphics look great, although I am not too sure I like the night elves really, really long ears..

I'm amazingly in love with this game. Finally a computer game that doesn't try to look "realistic" but just look beautiful. Warcraft already has so much backstory and I just love the ease of getting into the game. Its not only fun, but its easy to learn. I've noticed that a lot of Massives out there do this whole well they'll figure out all the complexities in time since they'll be playing for months. Finally someone has decided hey you should be able to pick the game up and start to have fun. That and I'm already liking the way that they have things set up on their servers ( from what I can tell) The only problem I think they've really been having in this open beta is with their item database.

Meh, I played on my hoursemate's computer for an hour or two and I wasn't particularly impressed. World of DiabloCraft where everyone runs around killing individual monsters on maps that aren't instanced in an unending quest to get the best loot. There is no incentive to group and the methods for finding team members and keeping track of them are pretty poor. Not to mention you get terrible XP and little to no loot while you're on a team.

I love the stripped-down simplicity of CoH that lets me play for half an hour or 45 minutes when I have the time. I love how easy it is to get a group going and I prefer their instanced missions to Warcrafts (although WoW's quest system is more robust with a better variety for the solo gamer).

Anyway, CoH for me! Neener on all you WoWers!

Black Fox sums it up with just that. Aside from entertaining quirks and obnixous server problems, I'm vastly enjoying the open beta exprieince. My friends from around the states finally got a group together and went thumping. This game is cool enough that I'll seriously consider paying the monthly fee to continue playing when it goes retail.

Anyone else playing Horde on server test 9 or Alliance on test 11 (other than slacker that is)?

Once all the server malfunctions were fixed, I was able to get a character going on Test11 also.

Hey Bob, if you are on the Guardian server, a co-worker and I have a new supergroup for semi-casual players (we seem to play 2-3 times a week for a few hours).

If you have any low-level (12 or less) characters, and wouldn't mind playing with this crew, we could use more folks (a scrapper and controller, while nice, have damage absorption issues [Smile] ).
