My laptop thinks it's running on battery, and it's running on electrical juice.
All right, you techie geniuses - what have I done wrong now???

Is the outlet controlled by a light switch? If so, is the switch turned on?
Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :
Check the switch on any surge supressors, too.

Plug it in...plug it in..
or perhaps some more details?

My ibook did that and it turned out the power cable was broken.
Cost $170 to get a new one. I hope that's not the answer in your case!

$170 for a new power cable?
Macs.

Wiggle the power cord around. Sometimes the connection is bad.
Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :
The problem was it was the cable near the transformer bit that was broken - and so I had to by a whole new transformer.
Hence the expense.

All the switches are on, everything's plugged in. I'm only sort of blonde . . .
This didn't start occurring until I watched some dvd's . . . it would go into standby about 30 minutes into a show unless I moved the cursor - kind of like keeping the thing "awake" - I have investigated the power settings in the control panel. I dunno -

Maybe I am blonde.
I wiggled the cable. Vigorously.
The "charging" icon came back on the task panel and my screen suddenly brightened. A lot.
Thanks.
*creeps off embarrasedly*

I'd post a comment about wiggling vigorously and then brightening, but someone already wants to wash my mouth out with soap.

I have the industrial strength stuff in my car.
Posted by Uhleeuh (Member # 6803) on :
At least it was only a cable and not a dingle that was wiggled vigorously.
Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :
well, as long as this thread doesn't go limp . . .
Posted by Allegra (Member # 6773) on :
I have enough soap for two...
Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :
sorry . . .
Posted by Uhleeuh (Member # 6803) on :
There's no need to give Shan a hard time...
Posted by Allegra (Member # 6773) on :
Don't worry about it. My mind gets dirty sometimes too. I just enjoy giving other people a hard time.

Me too...although we might be talking about something different, you and I....
