Where I live. The kids are very close in age to my 2nd, 3rd, and 5th children.

It's possible, though still moderately unlikely, that Monica even knows this woman, though I don't recognize the name.

I'm going to go off in a corner and whimper for a while...

Oh, Jim-Me, I'm so sorry.

Postpartum depression can be so much more than people realize. So many different forms -- here, psychosis.

Oh, wow.

"At the time we closed the case, we had been assured that Mom was stabilized and that she was not a risk to herself or her children," Geoff Wool, spokesman for the Family and Protective Services Department, said.
What does it mean, 'we had been assured.' Didn't they run their own tests?

Wow. How sad for that family. It's really scary what post-partum psychosis can do to mothers. [Frown]

Well, if Mom saw a psychiatrist, then perhaps the psychiatrist assured them she had stabilized.

Y'all, docs and child protective services and the police aren't God. You cannot always predict what someone will do.

This is one of the most horrific tragedies I've ever heard of - in some ways it makes me feel sicker than the Andrea Yates story.

This is so sad.The father must have had some idea that everything wasn't right - why else would he call to check on them?

Back.

You can only do so much to prevent a tragedy like this. While it's good to ask "what might have helped prevent this?" we can never forget that we can only control certain things. Not everything works as it is supposed to, all the time, and spending time trying to figure out who should have seen it coming is just vindictive. The horse is gone. Closing the barn door doesn't help, now. All we can really do is cry.

The poor child. The poor family. I can't imagine what it must feel like. I wish I could stop trying to.

((((Jim-Me)))

that sucks.

I hope you didn't know them, but even if you did it is still awful.

::shivers:: That really is scary. Where was the husband or baby's daddy during this? After I have children, I'm going though therapy, even if I don't show any signals.

Jim-me, that was absolutely horrible. Although too late, hopefully that woman can get the help she apparently, so desparately needs. Hopefully the soul of that child is at peace wherever it is.
