Whether we like to admit it or not, each day brings change. Yes, it is oft a minor change. Yet it is those minor changes piled upon each other that leads to the major shifts we see over a lifetime.

My question to you is such: What have you learnt today that makes you a different person?

My answer to that question is, sadly, I'm not sure. I have learnt many things today, yet I am not quite certain of how those things have changed my attitudes or approach or life. Perhaps you posters here are more certain?

Ok, I'll bite on this one.

During a moment of quiet reflection (that I happened to be experiencing in the middle of my grad class) I realized a parallel between a situation that I myself am in, and a situation that I've put my friend in. I've been complaining of a lack of communication on my side (i.e. "I would do a better job if you would just TELL me what you want") while at the same time I have been rather angry at someone in a different situation for not acting in the way I expect. Have I communicated with this person what I need from them? After all, I expect people to communicate their needs/wants to me so I can do the best job I can. Do I have any right to be angry/hurt if I haven't done this for my friend?

Nope. Great parallel, I'm feeling better about that and am rather changed. I become more and more independent every day.

(edited for clarity)

I learned about the effect of parents opinions on there naive, blind children... effects that last well into adulthood.

If I wash the dishes after every meal, I don't get a giant pile of dishes a week later that smells funky.

That's cool, Narnia! In fact, it's exactly those kinds of changes that lead to major character change -- and to bettering the self. Congrats [Smile] .

I've learned I work much better when there's someone around me whose also working then when I'm all alone. I SHOULD have known it for sometime but somehow it didn't strike me until today. The truth is, before going to university I shared the room with my brother and we'd do our homework in the same time... It probably contributed to my current state, I'm not sure about it (or how much).

I wonder how common this attitude is? I know my brother, for example, is now totally self sufficient about work: he's very glad to work on his own, he can stay awake until 2-3-4AM if he has something he wants to do (not for school I mean, just for himself)...

I'm also wondering how to improve my working alone capacity; if anyone has any ideas, I'd read them gladly.

I learned that at the CBC's headquarters, intra-office mail is delivered by robot.

mack, I've learned that a while ago and along with that I also learned that washing the dishes takes muuuuch less time then you'd think!

I realized I can't save my friends from their problems if they don't want help.

Corwin: Ability to work by self is a tough skill. It all depends on what, though. If it some daily work load, then the ABSOLUTE best approach (imo) is to create a set time and place for work. Then also remove all distractinos. Add in a minor ritual, like drinking a cup of soda.

Then combine them all. For instance:

At 2 PM each day, you take a cup of pepsi, sit down at your basement table and tell everyone to defer calls (except in emergencies). Then work. If you find yourself idling off, set a specific time to work until.

WERE YOU HERE TODAY?! Or did you just find that out randomly?

I know all about CBC. I've been in their prop room in the basement to look for props. I've been up in their rooftop studios. Isn't it COOL?

The girl at the Hardees Drive through has a tattoo on her left buttock. Cute one...

Phanto: See, that's a problem right now. I'm an Computer Science exchange student and only for one semester here. I don't have my own computer and almost all the time I work at the university, in one of their labs. It does NOT mean I'm not alone, since I don't know most the other students, and, well, for me that's alone. And about distractions, yeah, I can get some around here.

I'll try your idea of setting a schedule & some ritual though...

Uhmm... Yeah, you might say that... [Frown]

Edit: Have to go home now. Enough work for today! [Big Grin]

I learned that I rely heavily on both my husband and my car. Finding out how much my husband helps me out every day was nice, but finding out I'm kind of crippled without a car now when I lived without one for three years was kind of disappointing.

No, I happened to catch Rick Mercer's Monday Report. It is indeed super-cool. [Smile]

You work at the CBC? [Cool]

No, I'[m unfortunately not that cool; I'm a student and I

a) went on a tour because I knew someone with connections.

b) Did set design for a play and went to the CBC to look at props- they lend them out for free to student productions.

What did you learn today that made you a different person?

I learned that you cannot choose when someone decides they want to be family, but you can choose whether or not to believe them.

Today I learned that oysters not only have the potential to NOT be disgusting, they can, in fact, be quite delicious.

I guess that didn't really change me as a person.

I was reminded, however, of how ragingly awesome friends can be and that life is really wonderful despite the little things that get you down. I already knew this to be true, but it's always nice to get a reminder. [Big Grin]

I realized that I need more organization in my life. I need to keep my room cleaner so I can concentrate on my homework, and I need to do my work at a normal hour, so I'm not stuck writing a paper at 3 in the morning that's already a day late.
