Ok, So I'm going in March, and my scholarship fell through due to my GPA (I have a 3.72, not the minimum 3.8). So I'm hurriedly looking for money from every which direction... The deadline is January 21st... and I'm about 900 dollars short....

My first question is for all the PC Alumni on here. Where did you receive your financial aid, if you did?

My second question is for everyone. Does anyone on here want to send a 17 year-old to DC for a week long course on security in a democracy? (I don't expect any one to whip out there check books, but I figured asking couldn't hurt)

As for my third question. Why can't money grow on trees?

Would I be supporting a Republican, or a Democrat?

You would be supporting an impressionable youth who could easily go either way (I consider myself a conservative democrat).

O_o I gotta use that in OOC....

(edit: Can't find OOC thread!! Help! I have to leave now...)

3 AP classes and chemistry last term.... My GPA was a 3.84... but I kinda decided to go to bed a few times when I probably should have spent more time on homework...

Your on a bus... it's just cruising along and suddenly :BUMP: . It hits Stryker, he sues and now doesn't need advice on where to find money for this program... or not...

ok, so I'm hoping to send the following letter to a few corporations in hopes that they'll give me money.
quote:
(person’s name)

My name is Tyler DeLong, and I am currently a junior at Bloomington High School South. I am very active in school-related activities, and belong to Theatre South, I also do the technical work for Sounds of South. I have also given my time to various community organizations, such as Boy Scout Troop 100. I have a cumulative 3.7 G.P.A.

I now have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in a Presidential Classroom program in Washington, D.C. Presidential Classroom is a civic education and leadership development organization that brings the best and brightest high school students – from the United States and abroad – to our nation’s capital to witness the federal government at work and to interact with influential leaders and policy makers.

More than 100,000 PC Scholars have passed through Presidential Classroom’s doors since 1968. To the best of my knowledge, at least 2 students from my high school have participated in a Presidential Classroom program.

In order to participate in this remarkable program, I need to raise a tuition of 1150 dollars for the week. This cost includes hotel accommodations, all meals during the program and all curriculum materials. I’ll be attending the National Security in a Democracy Program on March 5th through 12th. I am asking you and others who represent community organizations to help me with this cost. May I count on your organization for a donation or sponsorship? Presidential Classroom is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and donations may be tax-deductible.

Participation in Presidential Classroom is an invaluable experience. I will come away with firsthand knowledge of the political process, a new perspective on issues facing our country, and friendships that will last a lifetime. I will gratefully share the knowledge I gain through my participation with the community. I would like to continue my high school’s tradition of participating in Presidential Classroom. I will represent the community with dignity and make your organization proud. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (812)-320-4506 I would also be happy to meet with you at your convenience. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to offer.

Tyler DeLong,

So, is there anything wrong with this letter? Do any of you work for a major corporation? Does anyone know a major corporation that i should send this letter to?

edit: it helps when i can remember my own GPA

I'd get rid of that second "and", though.

Fine. Right at the end, I'd change it from 'help' to 'assistance.' That better?

You asked that someone comment so you know it had been read, and I didn't have anything particular to say about it, but I wanted you to know I'd read it. Therefore I commented, per your request. You respond by insulting me (yes, the rolling-eyes graemlin is insulting -- I've never seen it used in any other instance). I don't really appreciate that. If you were offended by my comment, intended as a humorous reference to another active thread, I apologize. I'll try to be more careful about it.

I wasn't meaning to insult... there, hows that?

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Dude, I'm sorry. I over-reacted. Mooselet was awakened by a frequin' UPS delivery schmuck who rang the doorbell and ran. I hate that. Anyway, he only slept for 20 minutes or so, so it's gonna be a bad night (plus I didn't get any real afternoon downtime, so I'm cranky, and Superstation woke up this morning at 4:45, and and and...). Not an excuse, but an explanation. Maybe next time we can just play Trivial Pursuit and I'll jump all over you about that. *weak self-deprecating smile*

I still despise the roll-eyes guy, though.

Papa Moose, I want to point out that when I use the rolly-eyes smily I use it to express mild amusement at myself or others, and also because I think it's very cute and green.

I hope I have never mistakenly insulted you by using said graemlin!

Basically, to everyone: I never mean to insult anyone, and if I have, it was misinterpreted, and I apologise!

EDIT: How can you despise it!? It's got a little smile and huge eyes... hee hee

Don't sweat it Popa... I can easily see where your coming from....

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

I also hoped you'd fine the pedophilia thing funny. Seeing as I practically admitted to the same thing in another thread today (and I'm much older than you), I hoped it would be understood as humor coming from me.

Also, I guess there's one place that graemlin is sometimes used that isn't too bad. When someone makes a horrible pun (or Dobie), it can be interpreted as appreciative rather than insulting. Like a groaner foul at ComedySportz.

How about I just keep my mouth shut about graemlins? That'd probably be best. I can try that.

Popa, your immense apologies are unnecessary... lol I mean it was a miscommunication, nothing more...

Edit: and i did chuckle when i read it...

Hey Fugu, you wouldn't know any local businesses that'd be likely to donate, now would you?

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Hit up Cook.

Posted by J T Stryker (Member # 6300) on :

I already tried, they never replied back... I"m thinking about sending another letter, but i'm not sure if i should?

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Oh, and you should be delivering these letters in person for optimum effect.

Posted by J T Stryker (Member # 6300) on :

Now thats something I'm going to do this time around... Though I have to say, Cook was the only one that didn't reply back...

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Cook is likely an order of magnitude (or more) bigger than any other company you solicited.

Stryker, I like the letter and congratulate you on this oportunity. I don't know what companies are in the area, but given the focus of the trip, have you considered approaching local politicians?

I think she means talk to Combs, he might at least brainstorm for you, if he hasn't already or doesn't hate the organization.

you yelled at me for saying your first name!
