at the end of the Colts/Raven's game the Colts were up by 10, and had a pick and runback that left that on the 3 yard line with a bit under a minute to go. Manning could have thrown it into the endzone 4 times to try and tie Marino's TD record (most TDs in a season). Instead of doing that, he took a knee twice. It was the classy thing to do. He knew the game was over, so he ended it.

You don't like Manning's butt?

[Confused]

And here I thought this was going to be about Alberta politics from oh, ten years ago? A nostalgia thread. . .

I guess football pants just don't do it for some people. [Dont Know]

I do like him, pretty much, but I think people are making more out of this than it is. I mean, if he had gone for the score, he would have been crucified. As it stands, he will still break the record next week or the week after, and he looks like a really classy guy.

Was there ever really another choice?

Was it his call to kneel it? I thought it was Dungy's. I hope Manning breaks the record, I can't stand Marino.

Agreed.

I thought it was Dungy's call too but I agree that it was a very classy move on the part of both Dungy and Manning.

And as a Raven's fan, I've got to say he didn't tie (or break) the record against them.

It was both of them that made the call. Qarterbacks can always call an audible.

Also, he had a running TD when he could have easily tried to pass for one.....that took class too.

Lets not forget that while both of them..Marino and Manning....were/are great passers, NEITHER of them has one a Superbowl yet....

Now Tom Brady, well.....that is a different story. [Big Grin]

And I read that the fans booed him... what's that all about??

The fans weren't booing him; they wanted him to break the record at home that night, and they didn't like the taking the knee bit.

I have to say--I HATE football, but Peyton Manning makes me want to watch it. They showed shots after the game of all the Ravens players coming up and hugging him and patting him on the back, and that made me feel all warm and fuzzy (makes me feel better about watching a sport that I've refused to watch for so long).

Did you see the interview with Peyton this week? May have been on the pre-game, or ESPN, not sure. He basically doesn't care about breaking the record, as evidenced by giving the ball to Edge for the TD against the Ravens. He even said he'd be happy to leave it as a tie with Marino, as he was one of Peyton's favorite players growing up. On the other subject...I know someone who dated Peyton once in college. She basically said he was nice but didn't have much personality.

Being in Buffalo, we have to give a *stab* to Brett Favre. The Bills need the Jags to lose, so of course Brett handed the game to them. The ONE time the Pack loses at Lambeau under those conditions...

What is it about Marino that people don't like? It seemed that when he played (before his collapse) the Dolphins were the maybe 10th most popular team in South Florida.

You got me. Anybody willing to lampoon themselves as in Ace Ventura is okay in my book. [Wink]

He was a selfish football player. He hurt the team.
