...preferably dripping with lava, the kind of thing you'd see on a fabulous NG cover.

I've found some, but not many. Anyone know a good source?

I searched nationalgeographic.com for "volcano" and "volcano pictures" and came up with the following(among others):
This is a pretty good one. No lava, though.
