125 dead

I've been thinking about this for a while. The familiar quality of these terrorists attacks is that they remind me of Oakland and some parts of LA during the 80s.

The extent to which we still have gang activity in the US, I don't know if we've figured out the answer. The situation doesn't map perfectly because of the differing religious influences, but there is something familiar about these attacks.

I wonder if the counterterrorist organizations have looked at it from a gang prevention standpoint? I haven't heard anyone say anything about it in those terms.

That's interesting, Irami. I haven't heard any mention of police anti-gang tactics specifically, though of course there's overlap in counter-insurgency tactics. Maybe anti-gang tactics could help over there.
Reuters has good coverage of that massive suicide bombing, including pictures and video: Reuters
I haven't seen the video, but the pictures show a massive puddle of blood. First time the phrase "blood ran in the streets" was so literally true to me. [Frown]
