So, here I am at WenchCon 3, with very little sleep. My plane got in an hour late, at 12 Midnight. I wasn't picked up until 2 AM. Then I got some milk chugs from McDonalds. And when I got to the hotel, KetchupQueen was starting improv games.

Will write more after breakfast. Am fiending for breakfast.

Late-breaking update from Wench Central:

The wenches are gathered in headquarters, primping for our fancy-dress night, lounging, and awwing over baby clothes.

The atmosphere is excited but relaxed, despite a minor stabbing incident earlier. (Our beloved Olivia says, "It's just a flesh wound!")

Movies have been going on all morning; we are now breaking for refreshments. (Pizza is much cheaper when you split it 8 or 10 ways!)

There have been no personality conflicts this morning, even any involving Ketchup Princess. (She asked for Ben by name and demanded he hold her on his lap, then played with Trevor for a while.)

The man-servants are keeping occupied attending the Wenches and their needs, and have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. However, there is room for improvement; the Head Wench says they did better last year. [Razz]

Our den of iniquity is decorated with goodies supplied by Knee-Bytr, our vendor. (We've had ever so much fun playing with them; unfortunately, the sword used in the previously mentioned stabbing incident was his. [Embarrassed] )

More updates when more happens!

Someone needs to scream "Avengers Assemble!" really loud for me. It would be best if done in the middle of a large crowd of people you don't know. [Big Grin]

Most of the wenches (and some of their escorts) are out carousing and painting the town red; most of the others are sensibly asleep. I, of course, couldn't go out, but can't sleep, so what am I doing?

Posting on Hatrack. At a Hatrack Con.

(On my roomie's computer. In the bathroom, so as not to wake Kechup Princess.)

We went out to the Macaroni Grill for dinner in costume; got some very strange looks. [Big Grin] Lindsey and I were walking Ketchup Princess back up the hill to get cleaned up and ready for bed, and some teenagers drove by and yelled at us. [Roll Eyes] They're just jealous because they don't have cool cloaks. I'm sure.

Costume play was fun today. The two most photorgraphed people, I believe, were Frodo and Gollum. Any guesses why? That's right-- they were the cutest. [Big Grin] (Okay, maybe I'm biased about Gollum. But Ketchup Princess made an awfully cute Gollum.) Fun was had by all, and so was Papa John's. I locked myself out of my room-- three times. (Nowhere near a record for me, unfortunately.) And we have all learned that once you get me really tired, my mental dirty barriers come down, and everything becomes dirty. And stays that way for a long, long time. [ROFL] (If you want to hear something really awful, ask me about charades...)

Quick update from WenchCon.

We went out for dancing. JaneX is 19, and we wanted to try an all-ages club she could go to with us. The first one was a bust, it had a high school battle of the bands. Ugh, pass, we decided.

So we went in search of another all-ages club. We found a free newspaper that Treveor and I thought would have a listing for one. Nope. Strike 2.

Then we saw a internet cafe, which drew us in with a mysterious yet irresistable force. Frisco immediately scored with an "Atlanta Dance Forum."
I called one club, they wanted $20 or more per head. Too pricy. Another wanted me to leave a message. [Roll Eyes] Strike 3, and we almost gave up.

I had a vague idea of a club that was next to another club that had shut down, so we drove over there. While en route, Lucky (who had forgotten her ID) said "it will be 1000-1 odds if we find an all-ages dance club that will let me in", so I bet her a dollar I could find one. It counts if you think it, right? [Dont Know]

Moments later we pulled into an all ages dance club, no cover except for JaneX, and Lucky (the lurker) got in w/o ID. But she wouldn't pay up my grand! [Grumble] She just made my list! [No No]

I only danced to one song with a salsa beat that would make a statue tap it's toes, but JaneX (her 1st time clubbing), her mother Ela, Jenny Gardner (head wench), Olivetta, Ben, Frisco, and Lucky (the welsher!) had fun dancing. Trevor was there too, not sure if he danced much.

A fun time was had by all.

Here we are at the end of WenchCon 3! Lime and Vana left early this morning; Olivia, Frisco, Ben, and Ophelia are taking Jenny Gardener to the airport, and Ela, Trevor, JaneX, Ketchupqueen, KetchupPrincess, and Lucky4 are all hanging out in the hotel lobby. We all say hi!

Speaking of Lucky4, we're going to be starting the official "Harass Lucky4 into posting thread" in just a moment. Feel free to harass at will!

So . . . pictures? Particularly of clubbing?

Posted by JaneX (Member # 2026) on :

This is JaneX, reporting in from the aforementioned hotel hobby. I have slept a grand total of seven hours in the past three days...so I'll just tell one story, which is about all I have the energy and mental capacity for right now.

Last night at the club, Olivet and I were waiting in line for the bathroom (this was our third attempt to get into the bathroom - the lines were horrible). Some weirdo got in line behind us and started chatting at us about how long the line was. His conclusion was that "they should just let us all go in there together!" [Angst]

So Olivet's response was to slip her arm around me and say, "You know, I think we might do that." Amd we grinned at each other and then started giggling.

The guy disappeared almost immediately. [Razz]

He disappeared? You've got to be kidding. I'm surprised he didn't start drooling.

'Specially 'cause you guys looked all sexy. [Big Grin]

Oh, for everyone who has a signed t-shirt: instructions for setting the color and washing. To set, either iron on the reverse side, no steam, highest heat, for 4 minutes, or throw in the dryer on the highest heat for 30 minutes. If you use the dryer, don't put the t-shirt in with anything else, 'cause it'll rub off. After setting, the first three times you wash it, you should wash it seperately in cold water so it doesn't bleed. After the third time, you should be good (although I wouldn't wash it in hot water by any means; this is a Crayola product we're talking about. [Roll Eyes] )

Lucky4 and I went to church this morning. She was there for the first time Emma said "baby" (over and over again). It was pretty cool; she even knew several of the hymns. Mapquest's directions to the church were horrible, though.

Now we're trying to decide what to do for lunch.

Fugu, there were at least half a dozen cameras clicking away, but none were mine so I have nothing to upload.

There should be a picture or two of me pointing at Judy's (Olivia's cool sister) chainmail crotch protecter, during our team's presentation in the Dwarven Wench chainmail contest. [Evil Laugh]

And there are two pictures of the wenches who went clubbing. Two because my first photo may have missed the Sexy Boots(tm).

No actions shots at the clubs, though, ASFAIK.

Ugh.

Updating WenchCon III.

Ben, Ophelia, Luck4, Ela, Jane-X and Morbo (Marmo - that funny M-person) are all in town doing something this afternoon. [Edit: And Frisco - who does a mean Strider impersonation]

Otherwise, Ketchup Queen and her adorable Princess should be, as of this writing, on the plane to whisk them back home.

Megan has been returned safely to her house and is basking in her much-delayed quality time with her folks and family.

Olivia should be home, enjoying much-needed quality time with her family and generally unwinding from the controlled chaos that is WenchCon.

Many thinaks go to Olivia for having the drive and energy to start this as well as the position of designated worrier. Thanks to her worrying, we had a fun-filled weekend with our most difficult delimma being the dinner selection from the Macaroni Grill.

WenchCon would not have been nearly as much fun if not for Jenny Gardner applying the direction, coordination and overall enthusiasm to pull it off. Thanks for all your effort - we do appreciate it.

And for those of you who don't know, Jenny makes for a terminally cute Frodo. I might have to cut Sam some slack. [Big Grin]

As Megan noted, there were multiple cameras, so a small flood of pictures should be inbound in the nearish future.

-Trevor

Actually, we got ketchup to the airport too late to catch her flight, and we're all sorry about that, kq. [Frown]

She found a later flight for a small extra fee.

And ketchupqueen and I came up with a new saying:
"It takes a global village to raise a child, or at least tote her baby stuff and keep her amused in airports."

She told me about an Afghani (I think he was Afghani) and another guy who helped her lug her child seat at the airport when she came out, and some nice girls helped me entertain ketchupprincess while mommy freshened up before the flight. She left kp with me, and after peek-a-boo I was out of games (Morbo doesn't know any toddlers.) The women, complete strangers, helped me keep kp occupied till kq came back. [Smile]

I think he was Lebanese. And Morbo, you proved today that you make an excellent attendant. (He came all the way to the gate with me-- they apparently can give a special pass for that-- and was so, so chivalrous and helpful!)

Thank you also to poor Lucky4, who . circled the airport indefinitely...

I just got home, which is much cleaner than I left it thanks to my wonderful, wonderful husband, and smells great because he cooked dinner for me. (Awwwww! He also brought me Penguins at the airport and ran up as soon as I got to baggage claim to kiss us-- but me first.)

I am happy to be home, but I already miss the wenches (and the manservants)... Ketchup Princess is happy to be with her real Abba (although Ben does make a good substitute in a pinch, apparently), and I think she was telling him about the weekend on the car ride home. At least, I heard a couple of "Beh"s and "Abby"s in amongst the general babble.

I hope you guys are all safe and well! And that no more of you lose your voices. [Frown]

Well, I've also made it safely home! Just wanted to thank everyone for an absolutely wonderful weekend; it completely exceeded my expectations!

Thanks again goes out to Olivetta, she did an absolutely beautiful job! Also to KQ and Megan for putting up with me as a roommate, you guys are awesome! If I start thanking everyone individually, I will fall asleep sitting up. So I'll just say, thanks to everyone for being so friendly, generous (it amazed me how at all times, it seemed everyone was focused on making sure that everyone else was having fun), and most of all super cool/neat, in an I-want-to-be-IRL-friends-with-all-of-you type of way.

I'll try to post more details later when I've gotten a bit of sleep. But really, I can't say enough how much I appreciate everyone who went! I had the best time!

Oh, and I'm about to [that would be upload-- 7 1/2 hours sleep in the past 2 days] my (80 mb worth of) pictures and look at them. What should I do with them when I'm done? Anyone want to coordinate the influx of pictures that will arrive shortly? And I'm trying to figure out what to do about captioning them; it's a lot of pictures (stretching from me preparing for WenchCon with duct tape to us having our lunch today). *is ignorant*

I just realized I forgot to get Ems a shot glass or mini mug! [Frown] I was so tired at the airport, I was not up to shopping. Plus, it was Sunday. Also, I didn't think of it. [Wink] Now there will be a gap in her collection. So sad. [Frown]

Hey! Have slept now, but still feel a bit off. Voice down to a whisper (How about you, ketchupqueen?) All those who went dancing are doomed-- we shared a comunal icewater On the dance floor (Maybe Trevor and Morbo escaped harm, as they were not usually mashed into the gyrating mass of Hatrackian booty.)

Major events as I remember them...

Kq saving my sanity by making me a fantasti-wonnerful omlette around 1:30 on Friday when I was stressing and had had nothing but a coffee smoothie all day. This is one wonderful lady. We are both talkers, and had heard prettymuch each other's life stories before bedtime on Thursday. [Smile] I'm glad you made it home okay!

Friday evening, I had a margarita. [Eek!] I don't usually drink, which should be obvious considering what happened after. [Big Grin] I let Trevor leave without eating dinner to get Jenny Gardener (Ben was planning to go, but he was eating and having a good time and Trevor is just the kind of guy to always do the Thing that Needs Doing when the rest of us get distracted. (oooh! Shiny!)

I let him go without flight or airline info (didn't have it on me anyway, but didn't even THINK of it) THen my phone was left in the meeting room while a bunch of us went to the Hot tub. Long story short, both he and Jenny waited atthe airport much longer than they should have had to (him before she was there, and her waiting for the second wave to come get her). Oy.

Trever was cool about about it, because Trevor is kind and forgiving, and totally selfless. We all made shameless use of him this weekend, and it took two days for us ueven to get him to let us cover a meal or something. I amd SO going to make it up to him somehow next time. Somehow. I can be sneaky, when I wanna.

Jenny, on the other hand, stabbed me. [Evil] Kneebyter had some real swords and other blades, most of them edged. He let us handle them, but asked that we wipe off our fingerprints after. Jenny was scary trying to wipe off a sword on her clothes, so she tried using my sweatered armpit, which I went along with, because I'm easily led and have no healthy sense of self-preservation.

I have forgiven her for the minor flesh wound (properly photographed and soon to be documented [Wink] ), but after the tetanus shot, she'll owe me one. *truly evil, shifty-eyed grin).

Two hours sleep (maybe) two nights running. wow. Jenny woke us all up by swinging her wet, showered hair at our faces. I fell asleep again, and this time woke up with straddling me. I opened bleary eyes to a cheerful "Good Morning!" Heh. Jenny also says "Oh, yeah. Grrrr" a lot when trying to motivate herself in the morning. And, honest before God, talks of the Shire in her sleep.

More later.

I got to be part of WenchCon 3. [Smile] Jenny had a three hour layover in Dallas on her way home on Sunday, so I met her at the airport and we chatted for an hour and a half or so. I got to see some lovely pictures and Jenny in her cloak. It was fabulous. [Smile]

We got home in one piece, tired beyond reason, last night at 11:15. Other than watching the car's thermometer drop from 75 (!!!) back to 23, it was a great trip back. Topped off the camera's 128M Flashcard with random scenery pictures. [Smile] Will post pics from the actual Con sometime today.

I just wanted to thank everyone for such a great Con. I was a little wary of the whole dress up thing to start with but once Jenny nailed me down as Legolas and added my "otherworldly Elvin glow" I was in. Let's just say it ended with a aluminum foil bikini top and skirt and let the forthcoming pictures tell the rest of the sordid tale.

Thanks to Olivia and Andrea for putting the whole thing together, and Ben and Lindsay for being the best roommates (that we had) at the Con!

And I am so, so sorry you lost your voice, Olivia. [Frown]

Mine is almost back. Thanks, I believe, to the blessing I recieved after church yesterday morning (that my voice would function at a bare minimum well enough that I could do what I needed to and get safely home) I functioned at about half my normal voice capacity, with a little hoarseness, until I hit the back seat of the car and got the baby buckled in. Then I lost it completely, but a good night's sleep seems to have healed many wounds. I think it'll be back by tomorrow.

I'm glad you got to see the Head Wench, Lady Jane, we missed you this year.

It's funny, toasting Jenny and Olivetta was a team effort. Saturday night we went to Macaroni Grill in costume. I thought they deserved a toast for all their hard work, but the table was long and the restaurant loud. I knew Ben's booming voice would carry to both ends of the table (and into the parking lot), so I told him. Ketchupqueen immediately starting dinging her glass for the toast.

Thanks to both the Head Wench Jenny and Olivetta for organizing a great weekend. We all had a great time, several of us thought it was even more fun than last year.

Best WenchconIII humor or one liners:

We played Flux Friday night, an odd card game where the rules can change with every hand.
"Just like arguing with aspectre," I said.

During the costume photo sessions, Frodo (Jenny) held Gollum(Ketchupprincess) above Sam (JaneX). Jenny or someone said "now, Gollum, kick Sam." And she did, twice at least. We all laughed and said she can take direction. That kid's gonna be a star, I tell ya!

Sunday afternoon Schlomo was on the phone ( he couldn't come to WenchCon) and we were passing it around so he could talk to everyone. I talked to him for a minute, then said,"Do you want to get Lucky?" and handed the phone to Lucky. Sure, it's obvious, but I waited all weekend for the right time.

We passed around Olivetta's delicious peanut butter pie, and we all just dug into the pie-pan. I said, "First we had the Book Exchange, now comes the Germ Exchange." Too true, sadly.

When the RotK DVD got to the end at the part where the soldiers under Aragorn and Gandalf get to the gates of Mordor, the Teeth of Mordor I think they're called, Olivia's friend Kneebyter said, "the Dark Lord is not in right now, please leave a message at the beep." Well, we thought it was funny, after very little sleep.

There are others, but I'm brain-dead.

I actually was amazed that Trevor controlled himself as well as he did on Sunday, we were all so tired we were apparently saying hilarious things; in fact, I think one of the first things I said to him that morning was that our room dried us all out, but we felt better after it got all nice and steamy in the bathroom. [Blushing] Then Lucky started in on the unintentional double entendres, and you could visibly see him biting his tounge. [ROFL]

Ketchup Princess and I are wearing signed t-shirts today (since I threw them in the dryer to set them before going to bed last night). I'm a little curious, though, as to why Ben signed my t-shirt "Ben (your face)" right over the, ah, bustal area of my t-shirt.

It was truly amusing the things that came out of that man's mouth while he was wearing t-shirts with scriptures and other Christian slogans on them. [Laugh]

Ben also missed out on the chocolates, but Jane-X was very good about not eating them on the plane.

Of course, we almost didn't make it to the WenchCon because Janey was afraid she'd burst into flame so she reached across me to yank down my sun visor. While doing 60+. On the freeway. In a merge lane. [Big Grin]

Glad to hear you and Vana made it home intact, Limey. Oh and I feel for Limey - Vana has a seriously strong arm for an aluminum foil football. [Big Grin]

Unfortunately I missed most of the fun Friday night since I passed out and remained comatose in the corner until sometime Saturday morning. Hibernation is important.

Poor Jenny the Gelfling was stuck at Hartsfield airport due to some minor miscommunications. Not a fun place to be at 02:00 in the morning. [Big Grin] However, about 01:00, people don't look at you oddly when you spend half an hour rolling around in an abandoned wheel chair.

Lucky was a very cool looking Gandalf person. As we were leaving the Macaroni Grill, an older fellow flagged her down and said, I quote, "you have some balls to go out dressed up like that." [Laugh]

And ladies, Frisco is the very image of Strider. I have it on good authority that he is a "very attractive man." Even without the velvet red dress. [Big Grin]

Edit: Gelfling! Glad you made it back safely. [Big Grin]

I am glad the chocolate made it. The truth is, a few pieces almost didn;t make it into Sarah's luggage, because I almost ate them as i was walking back to the car. "They won't notice if I eat just one. Or two..."

Glad they were enjoyed by almost all.

My husband was just reading names off my t-shirt. He said, "Megan", but pronounced it wrong, and I said "Megan", correcting him, when Emma pipes up with "Me-guh". (The correct pronunciation, of course.) It was so cute! I just had to share. [Smile]

Well, our adventures came to an end today around 2:00. We unpacked the car and just got the last pieces in about ten minutes ago.

I have to say I had the best time this weekend. Every hatracker who attended was great. Now comes sappy shoutouts from Ben:

Anne - I had a blast picking on you half the weekend. I anticipated friction and confrontation, instead i got a funloving Anne with an Emma that likes to kick people on command. And i must say you had the dirtiest mind of anybody in the room. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you. Oh...and thanks for letting a trouble maker like me play with your kid and encourage her to be mean and strike out to others [Smile]

Judie - Always a pleasure. It was great seeing you and talking about life in general followed by being able to cut loose with you downtown at the club.

Megan - It was great meeting you, soon to be Professor Megan. Hey, when you wear your t-shirt, everybody will think your name is Ben. How cool is that?! I hope the rest of your Atlanta visit is enjoyable.

Sarah - I was honored to contribute to your corruption and being there to help introduce you to the dance club scene of Atlanta. Hopefully the evening and experience (complete with weird creeps in the bathroom line) was a memorable experience.

Abby - I have a present for you. You were my second noseblow victim of hatrack, and you are a better person for it. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. So Lindsay and i challenge you to buy and read Perks of Being a Wallflower by the end of the month. It's a book you can read in a few hours. So yea, No excuses. We expect you to AIM us (Decon1313 and Darlingviolenta) with your progress, and any recommendations for books or music since we gave you our suggestions. Hmm...well, I leave you with this.

...man i'm a jerk...

Eddie - It was a blast getting to know you this weekend. I envy your ability to travel and your discipline in saving money in order to do so. On another note, who knew foil could work so well as a dodgeball? Hey, AIM me at Decon1313 and give me the info to tap into your entertainment selections. Also, we need to talk about getting some gold chains, then making some serious moolah.

Lindsay - ...Screw this, you are ten feet away. I love you though dummyhead.

Dan & Julie - It was great meeting you guys. We lucked out in the roommate department (ask Eddie) by pairing up with you. Hope the travels go well for you two.

Trevor - Sorry schedules got messed up. I appreciate you going out to pick up Andrea for me during dinner nonetheless. Maybe next time it won't be in vain. You were a champ when it came to pitching in to make things go smooth and i know that we appreciated it.

Alan - I'm glad I got to know you better this year. Since you are in the area you should work on getting up to Athens and visiting us. It's only an hour or something. You can do it.

Olivia - Thanks for hosting us this morning and for putting this whole damn thing together. On the whole everything went smoothly and we know that you are greatly responsible for that. You were wasted when we left you last night to take Eddie, and I was glad to see you were in better shape today. You deserved the good night's sleep. Thanks for the peanut butter pie this weekend too. REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

Andrea - You too put alot into making this weekend happen. Thanks. Sorry you were stranded Friday night, but hey, at least you got chugs. You even got me to wear a cloak for a few minutes. I consider that an accomplishment. Not that it will happen again. It was a blast seeing you off at the airport too. So yea, thanks for everything.

Pictures will be uploaded soon.

that is all.

Friday

mid-evening. I'm sitting in the Detroit airport, on a long layover. Found a sushi restaurant, which sounds healthy and adventurous. I order miso soup and tako su, which is octopus with seaweed and cucumbers in a light vinegar sauce. Lovely. I have a conversation with a Japanese woman sitting next to me. Her husband travels, and she wishes she were back in Japan. She wistfully tells me that she will miss the cherry blossoms this spring.

11PM. I am due at the airport, but I'm just now flying to Atlanta. The plane got stuck on the runway for about an hour. But I did get to see the de-icing, which was interesting. As we fly, the land sparkles below with the lights of cities. I see cloud whales sporting about.

12PM. Finally, I arrive in Atlanta. I go find my bags, wondering if any Hatrackers are there to pick me up. I figure they'll see me first, since I am the only person I've seen all day wearing a cloak. No one shows. I use my last 50 cents to call Olivia's cell phone. I get the voice mail. I think, what the heck? But I leave a brief message and wait for a while.

I wait for a long while. I decide to call again, find out the status. I have to buy a phone card to do so. Again, a message. I'm feeling nervous. I leave the following message: "I'm tired, and I'm lonely. I'm having low blood sugar, so I'm a little depressed, too." I know this will cause Olivia just enough guilt to make sure I get picked up.

Saturday

2 AM. Still at the airport. Ready to cry. An airport employee is trying to be helpful, but I just want him to go away. I can't remember the name of the hotel, so I can't call there or get a taxi. I decide to call Olivia one last time. I'm mad and I'm composing something I know will bring her guilt. This is very evil of me.

But she answers!! I feel less evil now. They're on the way!

Early in the AM. Ben, Lindsey, and Olivia are my rescuers. I grump about in the car. Ben pulls up to a McDonald's and gets me chugs. I become a two-fisted drinker. We go into the hotel, where mostly everyone is still up, playing theatre games. KetchupQueen, a lovely woman, is incredibly animated. Trevor is a rug. People are starting to get tired. I help KQ get "Freeze" started, because I've played it before. But I notice that I'm uncharacteristically slow at the imagination.

Olivia lets us watch footage of last year's WenchCon. Lo and behold, the action figures are caught on film! And no, it WILL NOT soon be released to a lingerie store near you.

Eventually, people head off to bed. I let Eddie handle my chugs. Then they become Eddie's chugs, and I help him adjust himself.

I go upstairs to share a bed with Olivia. Sara and Judy are my cool roommates.

(Day 2 to follow)

On the way home from work tonight, I remembered one of my favorite parts of this year's Wench Con:
Olivetta's Operetta, a sordid tale of The Boy She Didn't Like (Much).
Friday night she had had a skinful (which for Olivetta is apparently one margarita!) and while hot-tubbing regaled us with a rambling yarn about a persistent but rather rude suitor who pursued her from grade school until her junior year of college, when she finally gave the cad his comeuppance.

Before the epic was over, Olivetta had brought into the plot a Beamer ( or was it two Beamers? Apparently, though frightfully rude, her suitor was well-to-do), a loyal girl friend who pretended to be susceptible to carsickness so Olivetta could scatter McDonald's french fries in the back seat of the bounder's Beamer during a non-date, her parrot, a sympathetic priest and his cleaning lady, roommates, teachers, a lawyer who ran off with the family jewels, and a disreputable highway man with a heart of gold.

I confess, I nodded off a bit in Act IV, but was later told I missed a duel, the stampede, several tavern brawls, and the naval battle. I cannot confirm this as I dropped my libretto in the hot-tub.

But some helpful wench elbowed me awake for the climax: the bounder had finally pushed our Olivetta too far! He set upon her in the library and asked her for a stick of gum. Olivetta rolled her eyes (she's quite good at that) and said, "I don't have any with me, but I have some in my room," hoping he would Take A Hint. But if scattered fries on leather seats didn't do it, this hint surely wouldn't suffice for a fop as dense as this. And it didn't. The villain demanded, "Well, go back to your room and get the gum!"
The audience in the theatre-in-the-round-wetness gasped at his impertinence and breathlessly awaited our heroine's response. And we weren't disappointed! She went back to her room with him, got the pack of gum, and boldly told him, "If I give you this gum, will you please leave me alone, please??"

Finally, finally he Took A Hint. Heartbroken, he forswore our shores forevermore and was last seen boarding a tramp steamer for the Orient, where rumour has it he was set upon by Gypsies then, penniless, was eaten by one of the last bears in Far Samarkand.

All of us to a wench or attendant gave Olivetta an enthusiastic standing ovation for her rollicking tale, except for one wench who had lost her bikini bottom and (for some reason) remained seated.

Parts of this tale were shortened for the Made-for-Hatrack version.

If anyone else had told such a rambling tale, I'm sure I would have been begging for those minutes back on my death-bed, or for one of Dave Chappelle's Wrap-it-up boxes. But Olivia told it so charmingly and wittily that I couldn't resist aggrandizing it here. [Smile]

Yeah, so last night I told him I had a margarita with dinner on Friday, since we walked to the restaurant. He says, "Oh, was that what they menat when they said you got drunk and nibbled Eddie's ear?"

But I never nibbled anybody's anything, and you were the only person I could think of cheeky enough to try to get me in trouble. Didn't work, of course, since Ron is the coolest guy in the universe, but it left ME speechless for a second(hard to do). [Big Grin]

Come to think of it, it may have just been Ron teasing me. He knows that whatever I may be, I'm not the dirty old woman who molests younger men (no matter how delectable they may be [Wink] ).

I had a good night's sleep, but I am still a little brain-dead, so I won't post a full summary of events right now.

I think I may have the dreaded Wenchcon Plague. [Eek!]

Plus, JaneX and I had a very long day yesterday - 6 hours of me driving to the airport in Jacksonville while she kept me awake by feeding CD's of J-pop, oldies, and Israeli dance music into the CD player. We got to the airport way too early, returned the rental car, had dinner, and went shopping (I almost bought some flamingo stuff for my sister, but decided it was too tacky and overpriced). Our flight left at 9:05 for a quick (one-hour) flight to Ft Lauderdale, where we were left wating at the curb till 10:30 while my husband and Shlomo watched the latest episode of 24.

Some comments on others' summary of events thus far:

quote:
We all made shameless use of [Trevor] this weekend, and it took two days for us even to get him to let us cover a meal or something.
Yes, I stole his tab right from under his nose, while he was busy talking. [Razz]

After about 5 minutes, he looked at me and asked, "Did you take my tab?"
Me: "Yes."
Trevor: "May I have it back?"
Me: "Nooo."
I then got everyone to chip in to pay for Trevor's lunch - which was really inadequate thanks for all he did this weekend. [Smile]

quote:
It was truly amusing the things that came out of that man's mouth while he was wearing t-shirts with scriptures and other Christian slogans on them.
Look who's talking, KQ! [ROFL]
I will never again believe you are a sweet, innocent Mormon girl! [Eek!] [Razz]

quote:
Now comes sappy shoutouts from Ben
Ben, you are such a nerd. [ROFL]

It was great seeing everyone I knew from before and meeting new Hatrack faces. (Previous Wenchcon particpants were missed.)

In closing, I just want to say the following:

JaneX and I had the best room, rooming with the Head Wench Jenny and Hobbit Wench Olivetta. Others, apparently, agreed - our room became the "hang-out" spot.

Jenny and Olivet, You ladies are awesome!!! [Big Grin]

That is all.

...for now, anyway.

Wow, sorry to hear you got sick, Ela. If it's still in the early phases, take a hot shower, hot as you can stand it, and let the hot water beat down on your throat, face, and chest. Then gargle with mouthwash when you get out. Sometimes this cuts back a sore throat before it gets bad.

Feel better! [Smile] [Frown]

I may not actually be that sick. I feel a bit better after having some hot liquids and breakfast. [Smile]

Oh, I forgot to mention. While JaneX and I were having breakfast in the hotel lobby yesterday, we saw the hotel staff cleaning out the meeting room that we had used all weekend. It looked like they were setting up for a "serious" meeting.

When the staff walked off and left the meeting room door open, Jane snuck in and opened the white board cover to see if the nonsense we had written on it was still there.

It was. [Razz]

So, when the serious meeting presenter opens the white board to use it, they will see the following profound messages:

Hatrack was here
All your foil are belong to us
and
Ben is a whipped sugar butt

[ROFL]

Wish I could be there to see their faces. [Evil Laugh]

Hey, Nathan and I are going to be in Hotlanta this weekend, from friday morning till monday night (I mean night, 'cause our flight doesn't leave till 9:30 pm). We're crashing with Ben and Lindsay, per no noseblows because I'd have to hurt Ben and it would be very sad.

The reason we're there is a wedding of a best friend from my childhood (I'm IN it) on Saturday. So we'll be really busy from Friday night (rehearsal) till Saturday (wedding, reception, whee!). But we've got all day/night Sunday and all day/evening on Monday. We've got a rental car (it was cheaper, oddly, to get a package deal with tix and car than to get them separately. We even got better flights on a better airline!).

This is part of what caused us not to be able to attend W3. I had had all of this week off (spring break) but then my research job got a focus group with some active drug users on the 15th (oh, today's the Ides of March!), which meant I had to return to NH between weekends. We couldn't afford the cost of TWO trips, and my friend's wedding won out 'cause 1. it's a very important event in her life and 2. she'd kill my ass dead if I didn't show. [Wink]

KQ, if you email ludosti, she can give you a Foobonic account that you can upload pictures to.

And Olivia, if by "got drunk and nibbled Eddie's ear" Ron meant "were repeatedly pelted with a ball of foil the size of a human skull by Eddie", I think I remember that. Have you no shame, woman?!?!

So I think it's getting old, me going to Hatrack gatherings only to find out that all of you are awesome. It's hurting my image, coming back with only nice things to say about you people.

But I guess while there were no painful personalities, there were painful moments.

Lindsay whapped me with a plastic sword and left a welt, which hasd since turned into a festering bruise (do bruises fester?); ketchupprincess cried every time I tried to pick her up, without fail (they're learning younger!); Jenny laid me on her bed and had her way with me, resulting in fake bruises, which were nearly replaced with real ones when I slung her over my shoulder in the Macaroni Grill parking lot; Jane shot me a look that I swear took five years off my life when she saw me giving Ela a backrub (isn't that what I was supposed to be doing?); my sandaled toes were trodden upon by numerous pairs of Sexy Boots at the club. Anne, Abby, Me-Gun, Vana, Melody, Judies...you were all very nice...didn't abuse me at all. Try harder next year, or else the Man-Wenches will become lazy and untamed. Fear will keep us at your beck and call.

Because of our collected fear, I think, the Man-Wenches were the best company (okay, I'm lying, but only partly). Once I got over Morbo's Georgia accent (he didn't call me a Puny Human! once), he was a great guy (and the only reason I saw anything historical in Atlanta). Ben, despite what probably everyone on Hatrack believes from reading his posts, is really cool (don't let me forget to send the tape of our foil hurling to Guinness). Trevor, though he doesn't dance, is, too, and took a lot more abuse from the Wenches than I did with less whining. Lime...well, Lime is just about the hottest man I've ever seen wear a foil bra. For reals. Like, it's not even a contest.

Okay, so...same place and time next week?

I remembered another amusing exchange between me and Ben earlier. The day before, we had worked on the number one rule of baby safety: if the baby's mother says not to do it, don't do it. He was doing pretty well with that, but on our way to lunch Sunday, we finally wrestled the car seat into the back of his car, and were all getting in, when he began to drive off without the baby buckled in! [Eek!]

Quoth I: "Ben, it's usually not reccommended that you drive off without the baby buckled in to the baby seat."

Ben (slamming on breaks): "I'm sorry!" (short pause) "Usually not recommended as in you're telling me not to?"

Well, it amused me. [Big Grin] Also, we thought it was adorable that Emma loved whatever the crazy music was that Ben had on and was kicking to it and grinning.

I'm sorry now that I missed most of the saga of The Boy Who Wouldn't Leave Olivia Alone. I'm glad she stood up to him in the end, though. It's always best to stand up to boys, you know. *looks solemn*

Um, Athens AND Atlanta? [Big Grin]

We're staying in Athens with the wonderful Ben and Lindsay, visiting the fantastic Fowlers in Woodstock, the wedding is in Stratham ( I think that's the name of the town), and our flight arrives/leaves from Hartsfield (which I know is actually SOUTH of Atlanta). I'm thinking on Monday we'll do something in Atlanta, since it'd make us closer to the airport. Or something. Got any ideas?

Well, I just informed my aunt that our lease is up May 1, so she's getting moving on Jeff's resume and stuff. We can go month by month if need be, but we'd rather not sign a year's lease when we don't know we'll be here that long.

It's both a good thing and a bad thing; I'll be glad to be back where I grew up and feel like I fit in more, but my relationships with my family have improved so much being this far away from them... Plus, you know, I had my first child here, my OB/GYN is here, I feel like I'm finally starting to make friends... And let's not forget Bluebell ice cream, I'll miss that. And Bob's, the best steakhouse I've ever been to. And I'm supposed to be planning DallasCon. And Jeff's mom is the only babysitter Emma has ever known (and she doesn't charge).

So, mixed feelings on the move. [Dont Know] But I think it would be good for me to be back where I can participate in some of the things I used to do (like the choir I sang in) that made me feel more myself and less detatched from life.

Yes, fear of the wenches brought us together.
I was very glad to meet you too, Frisco.

But you're too kind. We mostly sped around the poor neighborhoods east of downtown, during a massive manhunt , looking for Col. Grant's house, the oldest in Atlanta. I couldn't find it. [Frown]

Then I couldn't find the King Center, just an elementary school named after MLK,jr.

After that I took him to a grand old house owned by the Woodruffs, one of the major owners of Coke who helped build Atlanta. But it may have been owned by someone else, Frisco saw a sign. [Frown]

At least you saw Little Five Points, that's a funky neighborhood. But not the greatest tour, I wasn't prepared.

I've wanted to go to the Atlanta Historical Society for years but can never get anybody to go with me, it's supposed to be a good museum. It's on West Paces Ferry, near the Governor's Mansion and the most expensive houses in GA, they make a great driving tour.
I'll try to think of other fun stuff to do.

Negligible, really, though if I'd been stuck with the whole bil it would have stung a bit.

Hey, could you email me your mailing address so I can send you your change?

As a matter of fact, I think I should get the addresses of everyone who did extra driving for group things (Trevor, Abby(especially Abby, who circled the airport for, like, an hour or two), Morbo... Ben) so I can re-imburse you on some gas money. Most people insisted I take more for the meeting room than was necessary.

Frisco (and Ben) - I really don't get why I was such an attractive target for the Foil Ball Fight. Things I learned from WenchCon:

I was a dishrag when I was young and pretty. Probably still am, just a more talkative, bitchy dishrag. [ROFL]

Dancing is fun. I used to dance all the time. I studied Ballet, and loved to go to dances in college, but time passed and I just forgot.

I don't like it when I talk so much. It's artificial somehow. I don't enjoy it when things seem gossipy, and trying to make ity less gossipy doesn't really work.

I like everyone, really. I enjoyed every person who has ever attended a WenchCon, even though I sometimes act playfully annoyed about it.

Ben is still a Butthead. [Taunt]

It's really sad to find a group of like-minded people knowing that very soon time and space will separate you. I wonder if my soul will stay as full of fellowship as it feels now, when the goodbyes last longer.

And my husband is a saint to put up with this mayhem every year. [Big Grin]

All the things they've been trying to beat into my head in nursing school about germs must go out the window when the dancing gets hot. I'm fine, of course, because my steel immune system hasn't let me get sick in about a decade.

Hey! Who stole my password?

But seriously, I didn't mean anything bad by it. Ophelia is, obviously, an attractive woman. I wsa looking through the pictures on Photobucket, and saw this one. Looking at it, something kind of snagged at the back of my mind. I thought that Ophelia kind of looked like someone in this picture, but I couldn't put my finger on who it was. Finally I realized that the reason it was escaping me was because it was so strange. She looked to me like a female version of Paul Reubens, only attractive. Looking at the picture now I can see what I was thinking, but it isn't nearly as pronounced as I thought it was when I first saw it. Anyway, like a moron I came back to this thread and posted about it without giving any thought to the fact that it might not be construed as the most complimentary thing I'd ever said.

So.... I think I have everyone figured out from the photos (and some I have met before). Lucky4 was Gandalf? She is beautiful!

So who is related/partners with who in all of that?

Frisco is perfect as Strider..

Lucky was indeed Gandalf and yes, she is quite breathtaking.

Lime/Vana
Edit: Ela and Janey-X are mother/daughter.
Edit 2: The young lady impaling the Witch Queen is Olivetta's sister
Edit 3: I'm a dip. Ketchup Queen and Ketchup Princess.

I think those were the only official couples, unless you count Olivetta and Jenny's kiss. [Big Grin]

I have one, but I didn't post it because her eyes were closed and stuff. It was a bad picture all around. But I'll bet someone has a shot of her. If not, I'll clean that one up as best I can and post it.

She signed t-shirts, so she counts in my book. [Big Grin]

I don't think so...I don't think she was around for most of the actual dress-up festivities.

Saturday.

7:30 ish. I'm trying to get up. I take my Events Coordinator status seriously, so I'm groaning and grunting to myself. Besides, if I get up first, I get the first shower. There! Finally I'm up.

I go enjoy a hot shower. I come out in my towel and tiptoe around, finding my clothes. I creep up to Olivia. Flip! I get her all wet. Then I flip Sara and Judy. Mwahahahaha! Since Olivia still isn't getting up, and I'm now hyper, I straddle her and put my face near hers. She rolls her eyes. She realizes I'll just be annoying until I have someone to go to breakfast with me.

On the way to breakfast, I "knock up" Eddie, at his request. No one answers, of course. Then I try a downstairs door, but I've been given misinformation, and some random guy answers, befuddled. I try to graciously excuse myself.

I'm the first to breakfast (Livvy's still getting dressed). Hooray! They have peanut butter. I go to get the ROTK started. We have many technical difficulties. Olivia makes some interesting requests...

Apparently she had too much time away from her real Abba this weekend. Sunday, when we got in, she was so tired she pretty much went right to sleep. Monday she was catching up still. But last night, when her Abba came home, she glommed on to him and wouldn't even go to me. She refused to let him hand her to me until she was absolutely exhausted.

As in real life, I was not getting Trevor's puns. Duh.

That dress was really hot. My sister kept fanning me and I even tried to lie down on the floor once, Hoping for an "Arwen Fading" picture as well as a cool spot.

But when I looked up, someone was about to take my picture and someone else was suggesting we do that scene with Aragorn and Arwen getting all snuggly in TT. I jumped up, blurring the picture amusingly. I insisted that Aragorn was actually kissing a horse. [Big Grin] Plus, my beloved would not approve of me pretending to be a horse who was smooching on Frisco pretending to be Aragorn. Erm...

That thing is velvet, and IS very warm.

Morbo, there were three sunset pictures, which I plan to email to you. I may have to zip them first.

Anybody else want higher-res pictures than the ones posted? Probably they will be better on Mad Owl, or just email and ask and I'll send 'em to ya.

Unfortuneately, the footage I had of the IMPROV seems to have mysteriously disappeared. Either I had it on the feed portion of the tape and it never recorded to begin with, or someone sneaky slipped in and rewound the tape to destroy the evidence. [Wink]

About all I had was Megan and Lucky dancing (and Lucky screaming and collapsing as soon as she saw the camera on her. [Big Grin]

All in all, not a lot of footage this year, though I tried. I got the fashion presentations (kq, no still picks of our design - I was wrapping you in foil at the time) and the Bard Contest. Too bad we didn't get to the action figure play. The categories this year were going to be Silliest, Best Reality Show, and Best Musical. It would have been a hoot.

WenchCon II attendees should be warned... we did watch the tape of your action figure play in its entirety.

So, I'm on my fifth day of spring break and I've only spent a total of about half a day at home during all that time. But now that I have some computer time, I present to you: Sarah's WenchCon Highlights. Adapted from my LJ.

- Sharing a room with the Head Wench and Olivet was awesome. Our room wasn't just the "family room" like it was last year - the four of us spent time in there after we'd said goodnight to the rest of the group, just hanging out and talking and watching some of a trippy anime that Olivet had on her computer. And during the day, our room was Wench Central and everyone wanted to hang out in it. [Smile]

- Going to On the Border on Friday night and eating Olive Garden take-out and chips. [Razz] Then playing Freeze, which gave us some really amusing scenes, especially since it was pretty late by then. Then hanging out in the hot tub listening to Olivet's stories and not watching FOTR as planned. And then hanging out in Wench Central talking to Olivet and Jenny and watching the aforementioned trippy anime, and going to bed at about 6 am.

- Being woken up at some ungodly hour on Saturday morning by Jenny flipping her wet hair in my face. Yay for crazy Wenchy roommates...

- Watching ROTK for the I've-lost-track-of-how-manyth time, with the Wenches. In my cloak.

- Dressing up in costumes and taking lots of great pictures (which I will post as soon as my film gets developed). Emma as Gollum was absolutely adorable! Frisco made a great Aragorn. And Jenny and I were Frodo and Sam again, this time with matching hobbit curls. [Smile]

- Thinking of the perfect tune for one of Sam's songs from the book and winning the Bard Contest with it. I was quite proud of myself.

- Dressing Lime up in an aluminum foil Princess Leia outfit, complete with chain. o_o

- Going to the Macaroni Grill in costume and getting lots of strange looks. Signing the tablecloths with our screen names and "Hatrack Was Here."

- Going clubbing on Saturday night with Olivet, Jenny, Abby, my mom, Ben, Frisco, Morbo, and Trevor (after wandering around downtown Atlanta at midnight for a while, and dancing with the Wenches in a random Internet cafe). I've already mentioned Olivet's and my adventures in the bathroom line at the club. o_O But despite the creepy guys and the disgusting, pervasive cigarette smoke, it was pretty fun. Mostly 'cause I had a whole circle of friends to dance with, so I didn't have to worry so much about the sketchy people. Well, except for the sketchy people who were my friends. [Razz] *coughBenandFriscocough*

- Coming back from the club at two in the morning and getting into the hot tub. Then eating Olivet's insanely wonderful peanut butter pie straight out of the pan with spoons, while still in the hot tub. Yum.

- Passing someone's laptop around the hotel lobby at breakfast so we could all read and post at Hatrack. We're not obsessed at all... [Razz]

- Counting for Ben and Frisco while they tried to set a record for the number of times they could toss an (increasingly small) ball of aluminum foil back and forth within the space of one minute.

- Watching Ben and Frisco pick up Abby, chair and all, and carry her all the way to the elevator and up to the third floor. Then they couldn't think of anything else to do with the stunt, so it kind of fizzled. [Razz]

- Writing weird things ("HATRACK WAS HERE"; "All your foil are belong to us"; "Ben is a whipped sugar butt") on the white board in the meeting room, and then leaving it there for the next people who use the room.

- Going over to Olivet's Saturday night to hang out (which for me consisted of watching old Simpsons episodes while half-asleep on Olivet's shoulder). She has an awesome house. Seriously. I want a house like that.

- Being the last ones to leave, for a change. And having Olivet and Ben and Lindsay come over to the hotel Monday morning to see us off.

~Jane~

Saturday, cont.

Either before or after the movie, I get the opportunity to play with swords. Kneebyter was displaying his mighty cool wares. There were swords, chainmail, costumes and even odd items; I seem to remember Viking chick Barbie and an inflatable wasp. After being warned not to touch the blade, I notice fingerprints on the long sword I'm playing with. I swear, I didn't put them there!! So I'm told to wipe it off along my leg, which (judging from Olivia's sister's reaction) is a bit vulgar. I stop, and think of another brilliant but fun way to rub a sword against clothes.

"Livvy! Come over here! Let's do that pretend killing you with a sword thing!"
"Okay!" she says.
So I put the sword between her arm and her body. We're having fun. I pull it out, still fingerprints. I push it through again. But....
It pokes her.

"Ouch!"
"Oh no, did I hurt you?"
She lifts up her shirt. Blood is welling out of a little wound. I'm horrified. The sword is taken away from me. I am not to play with swords any more. Olivia's sister doctors her with a first aid kit, although Olivia protests that it's not that bad. I recommend a tetanus shot. Yes, it was that deep. [Angst]

Saturday, after the film.

It's lunchtime. We end up ordering pizza all 'round. Sara and I retreat to our room to make her hobbit hair. I've already had mine done from the morning. Our room then becomes the hangout spot. I share my 7th grade student Hobbit drawings. Sara/Sam now has lovely curly hobbit hair. Eddie wanders by, and we decide he should be Aragorn (the hair, the face!). I get creative with makeup. I make him lie on the bed, which is where the best light is. He is willing to let me touch him wherever I wish. He ends up with a dramatic bruise, some battle scars, dirty knuckles, and blood-matted hair strands. I am inordinately proud of myself.

Back in the common room, it's costume time. For a while, things are chaotic as I distribute cloaks and costumes. Kneebyter lends us some of his costumes and swords. I make him up as a Southron. Our greatest surprise comes when KQ descends with an absolutely adorable baby Gollum. The sheen on Gollum's skin is perfect. Little Gollum even has her own suckable Precious!

We do pictures, capturing some of the best scents in the LOTR series. You can see them by following the links in this thread. Fun!

After a bit, we settle into chairs for the bard contest. I go first, with Sam's song about the trolls. Next is Judy, with a lovely rendition of one of the Elbereth songs. And then Sara, from memory, sings Sam's end-of-the-world song to a haunting tune. She wins, hands-down. Sara, did you like the prize?

Next comes Dwarven Chain Mail Fashion Show. The group is divided into 3 groups, and given 20 minutes to design a functional, beautiful, and original outfit. It was so hard to judge. Every outfit was detailed and lovely.

After that, we went to dinner at the delicious Macaroni Grill. Eddie insisted that, as the King, he should sit at the head of the table. Several of us were friendly and shared bites of some wonderful food. I drew a pomegranate on the tablecloth.

By this time, night was approaching...

Hmm. I thought I had a picture of the forces of evil, but as it turns out, whoever was in charge of my camera at that time took a brief movie rather than a picture. I'd like to blame it on Ben, but that won't work, since he was actually one of the forces of evil. [Razz]

Posted by Olivetta (Member # 6456) on :

I didn't get a Forces of Evil pic at all. I think I was lying on the floor (on a blanket with pillows) trying to cool off. When kq started to take my picture, I realized Frisco was beside me. [Eek!] While I know that Frisco would never do anything to threaten my marriage vows, I figured lying on the floor with his hotness nearby wasn't doing them any good, so I bolted. [Big Grin]

Oh, and our room had some nifty-smelling ladies. That first night after lights out (only an hour 'til they started serving breakfast!) Jenny and I snuggled a bit and I said, "You smell nice" which had Sarah and Judie giggling madly.

Ron came up to the room about the time Jenny was having her way with Frisco. We were putting the peanut butter pie in the fridge. When we left, he said "Who was that guy sprawled on your bed?" [ROFL]

*smacks Ben. HARD*

YOu know, I never realized, until I told that story, how easy I was to manipulate when I was younger (possibly even now). I mean, a guy you don't like asks you for some gum... Like this:

Jerk walks up to furriously studying girl in Library: Hey, do you have any gum?

Girl: Not on me.

Jerk: But you have some back at your dorm?

Girl: Yes

Jerk: Could you go get me some?

Girl: I could. *thinks* Maybe he just wants gum, and If I give him the gum, he'll go bother someone else.

God help me, how did I ever live to full adulthood? What an idiot! *facepalm*

I don't think you're an idiot; I think you just tend to err on the side of niceness, which is not at all a bad way to be. My response would've been to look skeptical and say, in my most sarcastic voice, "Um, no."

I only gave him one piece, though, not a whole pack. At the time I thought, "I'll show HIM! He's not getting a whole pack, and not the Juicy Fruit either!" Oh, what a wee beeyotch I was, lol!

Though sometimes, I wish I was still that quiet, considerate person. I'm much more selfish now. Like, I didn't even think to offer Trevor the use of our shower when I realized he'd not been home all weekend. I remember wondering why he wated to buy a new shirt, but my brain just didn't make the connection. [Frown]

I look like a dork in most of them, but that's pretty standard.

Olivia, I think I'm glad you developed some guts since you were younger. Myself, I am very glad I've never lacked them when it mattered. Honestly, I think you would have been okay even at that age if you'd needed to.

And did you get that tetanus shot yet? It's good that you've had one 8 years ago, but I'd really feel better if you went in and got a booster.

Saturday night.

Olivia and I ARE going dancing. Anyone who wants to go with us? Good. We go upstairs to the Wench Room to get beautified. I pop my fellow Wenches' cheeks with blush. They look really good. All unplanned, Olivia and Judie and I all are color coordinated in red and black. Olivia and I are sassy in our short skirts and Sexy Boots. Sarah manages to look both smokin' and innocent at the same time. Judie is classy and sexy. We're ready to go out!

And then comes a long, mixed up time as we travel about hunting clubs. My poor feet start getting blisters. Sexy Boots are not made for walkin'! However, we do find a fruit tree in blossom. Eddie kindly plucks twigs for all the Wenches. Some of the Wenches end up with flowers in their cleavage. [Evil]

One place we stop is a moody Internet cafe. While the boys try to figure out where to go next, Sarah and I get groovy on a carpet next to the fish tank. Soon other Wenches join in. Lucky shows off her bodacious moves.

Finally, we end up at this really pretty latin dance club. It's packed, there's a live band, and everyone is shaking booty. Except, none of us knows how to dance to a latin beat. I'm trying to remember my nearly 10-year-old ballroom dance lessons. Finally I get the groove. I try to get Ben and Eddie to move their hips and shoulders. By the end of the evening, I have dirty danced with every Wench and Wenchman on the dance floor. Ben and Eddie even danced with each other! I also had fun getting close to some fishies. I seduced Sarah with an ice cube to secure her for one dance. The Water of Doom with sexy ice cubes was quite nice. Finally, it was getting time to go. Ben and I got kicked out for doing the can-can in a no-dancing area.

Back to the hotel, where we crashed in the hot tub and dreamily dined on peanut-butter pie.

Feh.

To clarify - I didn't ask to borrow anyone's shower because most of the attendees are women and somehow I couldn't muster the nerve to approach a newly introduced person and ask to borrow their shower. Not to mention I tend to come across as odd (or menacing), depending, so I erred on the side of caution.

I figured I could sneak away and run back home before I hit the "ripe" stage. [Razz]

And, let's face it, it won't bother me if a woman walked in on my shower. I don't know, however, if they'd ever forgive me, so... [Big Grin]

As for sleeping on the floor...well...that was unintentional. The original plan was to sleep at home, but by the time the evening activities were finished, I was invariably too tired to drive. However, that unparalleled Boy Scout training came in very handy, so it's all good. [Big Grin]

And Olive?

At the time I thought, "I'll show HIM! He's not getting a whole pack, and not the Juicy Fruit either!"

I's not terribly memorable. [Razz] [Wink]

So, Ela, I have to tell you, the clothes fit wonderfully, and the boys love 'em. It was all I could do to get Robert to let me snatch them away to wash them. Ha!

Thank you, thank you thank you! The jeans especially have been a godsend! My boys wear them out like nothing, at leasdt when they fit long enough for them to.

BTW... I have two plastic foil-type swords that went unclaimed and a tiny weapon, which I can only assume belonged to one of the tiny figures that the design team won.

Oh, and I got to visit with Jamie and Nathan this weekend, too. Ben and Lindsay and all of us went hiking up Kennesaw Mountain (not a very hard hike, but it was plenty for the boys, anyway). Then we ate at Fudruckers. Ben and Lindsay went appartment shopping while the Novaks came back to our house. Jamie napped while Nathan beat the snot out of Ron at Halo. [Big Grin] Ron introduced Nathan to the acid-trippy joys of Katamari Damacy (sp?), which was fun.

Ben called several times trying to locate the bus station, then came back with Frisco. We hauled the boys to an amusement/arcade place. Much fun was had, and many tickets foisted on the boys. It was very generous, though I fear the boys may always be hopeful that others will give them huge amounts of tickets.

Frisco accosted me in a most ungentlemanly manner with his ticket-prize sticky-hand. I lacked the will to really hurt him, so he got away with it. I think my son Liam may have stolen a stuffed animal, or else used his "big eye" technique to get one from the lady behind the counter. Little grifter.

Then we all rode go-karts and went to eat. Nathan smashed his finger bloody at the restaurant, much to the shock and horror of all (he's fine). We parted company much later than was strictly good for the boys on a school night, but they seemed none the worse for it.

Jamie and Nathan visited us for dinner on their way to the airport last night, after having been somehow misdirected. I refuse to assign blame, though there are some people who should probably not even try to give other people directions. [Evil]

Everyone is safely home (except maybe Frisco, and I'm not sure the boy has one). Now all that's left to do is send out the odds and ends to people who left things or whatever. Then I can safely change my phone numbers and move far, far away. [Monkeys]

Nah. I love you guys. I'm just really tired. *snooze* Too much excitement for an old lady.

I was in the middle of moving when the kidneys started doing the cha-cha.

The plan was to finish up this weekend, not writhe on the futon in lots of pain. Guess which one ended up happening? [Big Grin]

I've only got two more car loads of stuff which I'll probably snag tonight since I'm back to one hundred percent. Well, as close as I ever get to it. [Big Grin]

Glad your boys like the clothes, Livvy. I have a lot more where that came from. [ROFL]

I am jealous that you got to spend more time with fun Hatrack people.

And I say Pfft! to your claim of being an old lady. Come stand next to me, dearie. [Razz]

Excuse me for asking but...What is wenchcon? *dodges bricks*

Check out the pictures. It's the wenches and the wench-men of Hatrack getting together for outrageously outrageous fun.

"wenchmen"??

Surely, there's an alternative? I know, I know, don't call you Shirley.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Hmph. I suggested "man servants", but you didn't like that one. [Razz]

Not that you have a choice. Man-slave. [Laugh]

Hey! She's oppressing me, did you see that? Ha, now we see the flaws inherent to the system!

Anne, thanks for your email, it was nice. [Smile]

I like "wenchmen". I think it has a nice ring to it.

Hmph. If mywhip smiley worked here, I would have used that, too. [Evil Laugh]

Yes, and we used to call the young Wenches 'Wenchlings' as I recall.

To answer the question... Many years ago, our own Jenny Gardener started a thread called LotR Wenches after seeing Fellowship of the Ring for the second or third time. It ended up being some 40 odd pages of role-playing in a ficticious place called the Wenches' Tavern, where the Wenches served the heroes of Middle Earth refreshment. It was fun. We had versions of the Tavern for each movie, I think.

I saved some of them, though I think they are all gone from Hatrack now.

WenchCon started when Belle and I made plans to get together to see The Two Towers. People said, "Oh, can I come, too?" And we said, "Sure! But don't you live, like, hundreds of miles away?" "That's okay, you find us a nive hotel to stay in, and we're golden."

Something like that. I figured it would be over when there were no more movies, but this year, once again, many people (mostly Hatrackers, but not all) gathered to dress up in costumes and play together.

Good clean nerdy fun! [Big Grin]

So what are the symptoms of the wenchcon plague?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Some get nausea, headache, and congestion. Some jump straight to the loss of the voice. In some, followed by a cough.

Sorry again, everyone. [Frown]

Almost forgot: In young victims, can be accompanied by a low-grade fever.

So what about congestion of the nose, sinuses, ears, sore throat, low grade fever, headache?

i don't think the nerdcon can be blamed for all of that jamie.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Unless you touched someone's lingering snot, I don't think you have the plague. It progressed very fast, and everyone except me and Ems (I think we kept re-infecting each other) was over it pretty fast.

I think the last of the Wenches Tavern threads may still be around, but I ain't looking for it on my hubby's slow laptop. [Razz]

(My computer is being repaired.) [Frown]

Wenches' Tavern threads:
LotR
TT
RotK

I haven't read these threads, just glommed onto WenchCon II last year and WenchCon III this year, mainly because they happened in Atlanta.
I enjoyed both Cons immeasurably. [Smile]

Yay for Morbo for finding them. [Smile]

I figured that at least one of them was still around.

I actually participated only minimally in any of them (too busy with work). My main motivation for going to wenchcon has been to see people - and Atlanta is close enough for me to drive. [Big Grin]

I realize how late this is, but Kneebyter just gave me his pictures from Wenchcon to share.

Hope this works.

Do you know what I just realized? I'm probably going to be too pregnant to go to the next WenchCon! [Cry]

Awwww. [Frown]

You know, Andrea WAS pregnant at the last WenchCon...

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yup. But not, like, in her third trimester. [Cry]

I so wanted to make it a habit!
