There's an Aeon Flux movie coming out?!? [Eek!]

[Party]

I was just talking to an animator a few weeks ago about Aeon Flux, and how we loved the bizarre, absurdist plots, weird characters and POVs, and other very original stuff in AE. I didn't know there was a movie coming out, that makes my night. [Big Grin]

Long live Chairman Goodchild! Long live the Breen Republic!

About time the poster came out. Just hope it doesn't turn into another Catwoman.

Aeon Flux

Starring Charlize Theron.

Like any such movie, I have misgivings, but I gotta admit - that's a cool movie poster.

I don't know how I feel about Charlize Theron as Aeon...just seems wrong.

Not to derail the thread, but who would you picture in the leading role?

Are you kidding, Lyrhawn?

OMG, Charlize [Kiss] is my favorite hottie actress, now she's going to play [Hail] Aeon, one of my favorite anime characters?

*feels faint, takes some deep breaths*

This thread has me gushing like a school girl. *flips hair* [Blushing]

We now return you to your regularly scheduled cynicism-fest from Morbo. [Cool]

I've rethought it, and I support it now. She IS a great actress, I've liked her in everythings I've seen her in, but I've never seen her in an action film before.

But she's earned a chance. And I've read she did all her own stunts. So, go Theron!

I don't know about the "did all her own stunts" as being an endorsement.

Actresses are, as a rule, not great stuntwomen and action films are, generally speaking, a prolonged series of stunts with the occasional bit of acting.

But who is playing Trevor Goodchild??

Perhaps, but this is based on anime, and most anime (well, most GOOD, serious anime) is tons of action but with a massive underlying plot. Most of my favorite animes, Big O, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist and others are riddled with action but they have deep meaning under them, and the acting (were it live action) would have to be superb to pull them off.

PS. I would kill to see a good live action Trigun or FMA.

Mmm... Aeon was pretty gaunt... Theron is too healthy looking. [Wink]

Actually Telp, that thought crossed my mind, but I don't know of any actress that is that skinny - well, besides Laura Flynn Boyle.

And get a woman too gaunt, whether it fits the character or not, you run the risk of being accused of supporting/encouraging eating disorders.

I'm willing to take Theron at face value as Flux if only because her face in the production photos is pretty lean looking and they've already taken liberties with the costume. Which is another almost absolute requirement.

As for great plots - yes. But c'mon, how many live action flicks can you name that successfully implemented not only a great underlying plot but the usual action sequences as well?

Most of the time, the plot gets short-changed in favor of the action. Can you imagine trying to turn, for example, "Ghost in the Shell" into a live action movie?

It's doable, but juggling the discourse on the nature of Humanity and Souls versus the requisite special effects would be problematic at best.

What the...?

quote:
Cast Notes: (4/9/04) Charlize Theron will be going through three solid months of intensive physical acrobatic training in order to bring the sort of flips and jumps the animated character was capable of to life. Of course, it's likely she will have the help of wires and such. (6/18/04) Frances McDormand has signed on to play Aeon's boss, known only as 'The Handler.'

Aeon's boss? Who cares! Who is playing Trevor Goodchild?
Besides... Aeon's loyalty to the Monican government was VERY slim. She only lived there because Monica was free (and also in a state of near anarchy, but hey...details).

Uma Thurman would have made a better Aeon, I think.

Posted by Telperion the Silver (Member # 6074) on :

YES! Uma would have been perfect!

Uma Thurman? Pass, thanks.

What's not to like?

She's tall, gaunt, a good actress, and as Kill Bill proved, a good action star as well.

Ah! Here is a more complete cast list:

quote:
Cast: Charlize Theron (Aeon Flux), Frances McDormand (The Handler), Marton Csokas (Chairman Trevor Goodchild), Jonny Lee Miller (Oren Goodchild), Sophie Okonedo (Sithandra), Amelia Warner (Una Flux), Terry Bartlett (The Spy), Yangzom Brauen (Inari), Caroline Chikezie (Freya), Betty Okino (The Monican)
Marton Csokas as Trevor... Hmmm... *ponders that*
Wait, OREN Goodchild? Trevor has a KID???
Ahhh.. I see they have Una there..... with Aeon's last name? Una was...um... Aeon's relative?? That's a disturbing twist... [Eek!]

I can't say that I enjoyed "Kill Bill" or thought much of her acting, never mind her ability to carry an action flick.

But I have to admit, this is a personal bias.

Holy moly... the dude playing Trevor is the guy playing Boba Fet's dad in Star Wars 2!
[Angst]

Friggin Jango Fett...totally ruined the Boba Fett storyline.. [Grumble]
