I've always loved that song. What I've read is that the earliest known mention of a "House of the Rising Sun" was in an English ballad about a bordello that travelled to America. It's quite likely that "The Rising Sun" has been around in song for many a year, and it's quite possible a bordello was named after the one in the old song, followed by a new song evolving, about the new house.
