I was making a pizza that requires the oven to be at 450° Fahrenheit. I like my pizza a bit brown on top, so once it finished I stuck it in Broil.
For those not in the culinary 'know', when you turn an oven to broil, a coil on top superheats to over 600°F. Mmmm...
So, I reached in to get out the pizza and the back of my hand brushed the coil.
It seared straight through the flesh and sutured the wound shut again before I could even feel any pain, let alone get blood pumping out.
This...'divit'...is surrounded by a ring of burnt, crispy flesh. Have you ever smelled burnt hair? Multiply the odor and you might get an idea of what live, roasting flesh smells like.
I have ice on it now, but I have a feeling that it is going to really effing hurt in a few hours.
Because it so neatly burnt the hole and sutured it shut, I have a feeling I won't be growing any flesh back there -- ever. This looks to be a new permanent feature of my body.
And no, I have not joined any anarchist-clan with a schizophrenic psycho of a leader.

Just working of of some back-of-my-memory knowledge here.
It's a tendon of some sort... lemme look it up...
American Society for Surgery of the Hand say its connnected to a muscle in your arm. Um, I think I'll just shut up until someone with medical experience comes in.

I don't know, but shouldn't you consider getting it checked out by some kind of healthcare professional. That's sounds like a pretty nasty nasty burn.

So, they don't think it warrants a Dr., but I have it wrapped in gauze with an icepack over a neosporin bandage.

let me get this straight... your parents don't think a third degree burn needs medical attention?!?!? (at least that's what it sounds like from your description) edit-Oh, and never put an ointment on a burn like that... it'll trap the heat in and make it worse, keep it clean and dry, but no medication.

From my research it appears as though it would be classified third-degree...but it is rather small, and it is not oozing anything. It is a very clean wound...
No neosporin or antibiotics?

Not at this stage of the game... it seems conterintuitive I know, but with a burn you have to keep it clean and dry, the ointments will actually interfere with the healing process by trapping the residual heat in the tissues, which can lead to further damage. This I learned from my mom who worked in a hospital for a very long time, and the fact that my middle son burned himself badly as a toddler.

to sum up, Third degree burns always require medical attention. The lack of pain may stem from nerve damage from the burn.

Well, I have asked my parents to take me, but they would like to wait until normal operating hours; i.e., tomorrow.
Upon actually seeing the burn, do you still feel I need to seek assistance? Do you think it can wait until tomorrow?
Right now it is getting a bit sticky and has some more fluid around the edges. I can see blood vessels, but they are not flowing -- they were sealed by the burn. It is about 1 mm deep and about .75 cm across. I'm not in bad pain -- just a steady throbbing along my middle finger, like it feels in an old broken bone during bad weather.

not necessarily immediate attention, it sounded worse than it looks... just to prevent infection/complications, I personally would have it looked at, if for no other reason than to rule out permament damage. (other than the obvious scarring) Mostly I'd recomend keeping it clean, dry and covered.
