ok, here are your clues....

1. she's 26.

2. she's been around here for quite a while.

3. she's an engineer.

4. she's never been to a prom.

May the games begin...

(and no fair telling if you already know)

I think you made this way too easy. At least, I don't "know" the answer, but it seems pretty obvious. [Smile] I won't guess, though, so as not to spoil your game with the first post.

Huh. From the clues I would guess AJ. But is she 26? I thought she was younger than that.

I"m not sure how old AJ is... I know she's closer to 30 than 18 though... [Taunt]

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

evil boy, that was too easy anyway.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

AJ is not my guess. She's nearby, but not near enough I'd think she'd be coming to your prom. My guess is in the same town as you.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

lol, yes I'm 26, and it's a good thing I look younger since it's a high school prom, otherwise I'm sure I'd get arrested as a pedophile.

I told stryker that I'll go with him if he wants, because I've never been to a prom (that whole being homeschooled thing) I think I'll be entertained. Steve thinks I'm crazy; but is basically laughing about it. He's used to my hairbrained ideas by now.

Yeah it's a random wierd thing to do, but is there anything wrong with that? I've already warned stryker that I suck at dancing.

AJ, you simply must wear a dress with a plunging neckline. [Razz]

ELjay, who did you think it was (I don't think we have any engineers here)

AJ, stryker sucks at dancing too, so you'll be just fine [Razz]

hmmm I guess I did make that rather easy.... O-well may the good times begin...

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I was thinking, fishnets and a whip [Taunt] maybe stryker should wear that.

Oh also aj, don't let him talk you into a coconut bra.

oh my goodneess, well let's have a pick AJ a prom dress contest shall we? I have a dark blue velvet backless formal with spaghetti straps, I know velvet would be out of season a bit but I get cold easily and even though there aren't any sleeves it keeps me warm. Online links welcome.

(prices need to stay under $100, preferably under $75, I'm cheap)

Mind you, that might be what you're going for.

hmm, I have no idea, but I really don't want to end the evening with a sprained ankle, since I'll have to drive myself home the next day. Though if I did sprain my ankle I'm sure it would be in a spectacular fashion.

I was thinking it was celia... isn't she right in town? I guess I don't know if she is actually an engineer, but I had it in my head that she was.

My first post hubris is highly amusing in retrospect. [Smile]

celia is not, to the best of my knowledge, in the same town. Not sure how far away (same state, but that's as far as my knowledge of Midwest geography goes).

celia is exceedingly busy at the moment, which is (part of?) why we have not be blessed with her presence in lo! this long while.

[edited to remove my faulty assertion. They say the memory is the second thing to go . . .]

Ceila is *not* a chemist, she's working on a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, she just happens to be doing biomedical imaging on cancer cells for her thesis.

She's in Lafayette, IN with Hobbes, blacwolve, snowman and others.

Bloomington is a couple hours south of there.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

Celia is about three hours away, she's in the same town as blacwolve (who used to live here, and will be back by prom).

Ok, then the reason I've only discussed chemistry-related topics with her must be because I'm a chemist(ry major)!

All I know about Indiana geography . . . is nothing. I think I could find the state on a map.

hmm, I was just double checking dates. I have a puppy that may be boarding with me that week. I'll have to see how the logistics of that work out (and I won't know the specifics for a while) before I can say for 100% that I can come. I need to be there when the owners come to pick it up. It would be kind of tacky to dump it all on Steve and go have fun without him.

AJ
(note: if it were not for this I'd still be totally in, but you know I am old and fuddy duddy and have a responsibility to these puppies.)

I'm surprised JT's school would let you attend, Anna...my school won't let anyone older than 21 attend a prom!

I have connections... lol and there is no written policy about age...

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

Stryker, there is a policy about age, but it isn't important here, it's no one middle school or younger. Fathers have gone as dates, so I'm pretty sure this should be ok.

Like I said, I'd still like to go, and see all of the Bloomington clump besides. However, I need to discuss it with Steve. I don't know how much the workload will increase with that age puppy staying with us for more than a week. We will be nearing the end of its visit at that point, and may be at the end of our ropes. He's been remarkably patient when the puppies have been driving *me* crazy, but there's only so much I'm willing to ask of him.

On the other hand I'd get to see Russell's puppy again which would be fun too.

O_O at the entire thread...

Wow. Stryker, not to be rude, but don't you think you have enough of a reputation around south without bringing someone almost ten years older than you?

(No offense, AJ, I'm sure you'd make a fantastic date!)

And Stryker, if I were in town, I would not be going to prom with you, dear. I have a boy of my own. [Wink]

Raia, I don't think there's a whole lot of social stigma associated with a teenage guy going out with a 20 something woman. His rep with guys is sure to go up because it's like dating a college woman, and his rep with girls will go up because he appears mature enough to date an older woman. I don't think it would hurt him at all.

That may change slightly when they find out that AJ's just there as a friend, but then they'll just see AJ as being really cool and Stryker will still look better than if he went stag.

Is there anyone else out there -- that this situation makes them remember a very particular Dharma and Greg episode? (I never watch that show, but happened to be at a friends' home one day when that episode was on, and they were watching it.

celia is also not 26.

Actually, I didn't think AJ was 26 yet either. [Dont Know]

Posted by Stray (Member # 4056) on :

Haha..actually, come to think of it, I'm an engineer (though not the same type as AJ or celia), I've been here a while (thought not nearly as long as either of them), and I'll be 26 in a couple of weeks. AND I've never been to a prom.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Stray, I was thinking that everything but the engineer part might be applied to me, too. [Wink]

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Look, if I can't make it for the prom weekend (which I'm not going to know about until the middle of April, when they pick the puppy up.) I'll definitely come down and see everyone in the clump anyway, sometime in May. The first weekend in May would probably work out much better for me. And the trip wouldn't be complete either way if I didn't hang out with Megan and Stray too!

AJ

Oh and I believe there was a cardigan corgi on Dharma and Greg for a while. [Razz] http://www.tvacres.com/char_montgomery_greg.htm I've never faithfully watched the show but always enjoyed it when it's happened to be on at the same time I was watching TV. Though I've never actually seen an episode that has the dog in it!

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Hehe, no, that's not what I meant... I meant instead of may, if she can't make it.

If she is going to prom, then maybe she can come in july anyway. [Smile]

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

lol, I told stryker from the beginning it was contingent on making sure my schedule was clear, so I'm not standing him up either way!

AJ

Posted by J T Stryker (Member # 6300) on :

And seeing how AJ would be the backup "date".... lol I mean If she can make it, she'll have a ticket... She just might be taking Fugu or some one as her date.....

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

it'lll work out if she is coming, whos date is whos doesn't matter that much. I'm actually debating if I'll go, I had sworn i wouldn't...

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Okay - now I'm officially confused -- because Fugu isn't even in high school.....

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I don't think stryker has asked fugu, but last year fugu went to our prom, and his date wasn't a high school student either (well she was homeschooled). So it's possible he might go again, as I'm thinking i might go.

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

No, fugu has no intention of attending, though he might come to a postprom party or preprom dinner outing.

Posted by J T Stryker (Member # 6300) on :

I think Fugu just needs a little motivation....

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Oh, I might come if you gave me large sums of money, but that's about it.

Posted by blacwolve (Member # 2972) on :

Okay, I don't get it. Can random strangers crash your prom?

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

someone in the junior or senior class has to buy them a ticket. Oh tom this is ot for this thread, but where did you grow up (I saw today it was indiana, and now am curious)

Posted by Allegra (Member # 6773) on :

As long as they are on a list and have a ticket. Last year no one checked lists or tickets. I was kicking myself for actually spending money on one.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

they checked my ticket, and wouldn't let my date in till I was there (we arrived from a preprom place in different cars).

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

They checked mine too. And I didn't have a date until after we got there.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Wow - that's much different than here. Here, you have to be a junior or senior at the school OR the date of current junior or senior in order to attend. No outsiders that aren't dates of current students. No tickets - prom is free. (paid for through fund raising done by junior class).

Farmgirl

Posted by blacwolve (Member # 2972) on :

Yea, that's the rule here to. The thing is, last year a lot of people went stag or else went with a junior or a senior. That meant that they could have a "date" that wasn't a junior or senior. That meant that even though I went with my boyfriend, my official date was my friend Mary, who homeschools and wouldn't have gotten to go to prom otherwise. One of our other friends (I forget who) took Russell as their official date so that he could actually go with Mary.

So basically we just messed with the system. At the time I thought it was really clever, I'm not sure what I think now.
