First, everybody, it was so wonderful to see/meet you... I had a great time! Can't wait to do it again!

rivka, I need your address to send you that bag I forgot to bring along. It is sitting happily on my porch, where I left it so as not to forget to bring it. [Wink]

mack & Frisco, Mike & Patty will be picking up your package from Ben at the Union today. I need to know where you want them to send your respective belongings. They will be relatively prompt, I'm sure. [Wink]

I don't have many pictures, but I have a couple that will be amusing. I'll download them tonight, probably and post them.

I ended up leaving Ames a little after 3:00 Sunday. I was hoping to make it to MN before having to stop for a nap, but there was no way. I pulled over just past Clear Lake (1/3 of the way home) and called KrabbyPatty to let her know I was sleeping and wouldn't make dinner, and she asked me to call when I was on the road again. I suggested she just give me a wake-up call in 30 minutes, as I don't like napping much longer than that, and I wanted to be driving again before it got dark.

Just as I was nodding off, the phone rang I answered it with "That was a quick 30 minutes." She asked if dkw had called, explaining that she had just called her and said they were just north of Clear Lake. Mom told them I had just stopped to sleep just north of Clear Lake, and dkw had looked over and seen my car as they were passing the exit. I was busy trying to figure out why the h$*& Mom had interrupted my nap to tell me this, and she said they were turning around at the next exit and coming back, and dkw was going to drive my car the rest of the way home so I could sleep.

I actually still didn't understand the benefit of this, but I just wanted to hang up the phone at that point, so I didn't argue. They showed up a few minutes later, and I stumbled into the passenger seat and we were off. I wasn't able to actually sleep, but we had a nice chat and I got home safely, without losing time by the side of the road.

Oh, and whatever stories Frisco tries to tell, all I have to say is he started it.

[Smile]

Well, we already put picture links in CaySedai's thread, but we can repeat here!

I'm still working on mine, but there are some up:

And anyone have any idea how I go about deciding how to label who everyone is in that shot?

Aw, go easy on him. I don't think anyone could have made Superstation happy that night. He was just one very tired little boy...

Wasn't it something that plaid said (or someone in the back) that made us all start laughing for this one?

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

I can't remember but yeah it was geeky-hatrack funny.

The Baby Quilt was presented to Sophie!

Also the female pastor that was officiating had dana and bob bursting out laughing at the altar. She called their marriage a miracle "second only to the ressurection" and told dkw she'd debate theology with her later. (in fairness the message was Easter themed) And, we got to hear tidbits of the e-mails they sent each other. Though no hatrack posts.

There were quotations from Princess Bride on the back of the bulletin. "Mawwidge..."

Someone, not sure who, said "Bring out your dead" in a homage to the Monty Python quote. [Big Grin]

As for labeling which one is which, I would just have one version with Photoshop (or even Paint) arrows to everyone.

I hate having to look at some text at the bottom of a screen, and counting from the left or right.

Yes, Bob'n'DanaCon was simply amazing.

I had a blast hanging out with everyone, and there was nobody I didn't wish I could have spent more time with. I have too many stories to recount, though I'm sure many will come up at one time or another.

Some particular highlights, though:

The wedding itself. The service was wonderful, everyone was glowing, Princess Bride quotations were in the program, Hatrack got given its due (if not by name), and so much more.

Dancing at the reception. I particularly enjoyed when ElJay taught me the polka super-quickly as nobody else was dancing to that song. Whether or not I learned any of the polka is another question (that dance is hard! I'm impressed with those who polka), but it was fun [Smile]

The ride to take Cay Sedai back. While hanging out in large groups is a blast, it was nice to have some time to sit back in a much smaller group and talk, or just sit there slightly exhausted and look at the scenery for bits of time. ElJay and Cay Sedai were great traveling companions.

The late, late, late night conversation/pillow fight/gnaw-fest. There's something about lying on a bed and collectively blathering (actually, I thought we managed to be quite deep at times, though I have a hard time remembering specifics . . .) on about random topics, late at night, that's always special. It takes a certain chemistry between people for it to work, and we certainly have that.

The long, long trips there and back, and all my travel companions for those: Stray, AJ, Kat, Plaid, and Frisco. There was much sleep, which is nice, and surprisingly little stress, which was nicer -- lengthy trips can often be a trying time, and we weathered them quite well.

I know I'm forgetting something I'd love to talk about, but this is the annoying part of being too busy to sleep much at all on the trip -- forgetfulness.

It probably would have seemed easier had ElJay actually remembered how to polka. [Big Grin] But thanks for the dance, regardless. [Wink]

I got to dance with fugu, Frisco, punwit, Bob, Shigosei, Kat, and Ivygirl! And Poseable Nurse, of course. I think that's it, but it's hard to remember, sorry if I left anyone out. [Smile] Oh, and Brian, but he's not a Hatracker.

Oh, good, I've been looking for a thread like this all...well, since I finally got out of my meeting this morning and then got back from lunch. So not long, actually.

I wanted to let everyone know that we made it home just fine yesterday. But more importantly, I wanted to say how much fun we had and how wonderful it was to spend the weekend with Hatrackers. It was such a blast! I just loved taking over the whole 5th floor - it felt very "college" and homey.

So, uh...when can we all get together again? Soon, right? I miss everyone already!

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

I actually don't know anything about photoshop, I just meant little arrows drawn to the people with their screen names at the other end. Nothing fancy [Smile] . Are you saying there's a photoshop tool for this purpose? That would be cool.

I think we need to have a large Billtmas celebration. The advantage of Billtmas is that we can have it whenever we want, and it doesn't interfere with the holidays that non-Jatraqueros celebrate.

in Photoshop, you should be able to do an outline thing and put numbers on the heads or something, then make a list in the caption with number/name

and

quote:
Dude, Frisco, what is it with you and little ones? [Laugh] Can't handle ketchup princess, can't handle Superstation...
I beg to differ - Frisco was doing a good job with Superstation, feeding him so that Mama Squirrel could eat. At least, that's how it looked to me. [Wink]

Well, he was happy, but I think that was mostly due to the fact that I had applesauce.

ooo - that sounds neat. Let me try to find that.

I did find how to make arrows to point to everyone in Photoshop, but I couldn't seem to make the arrows anything but black (which didn't show up well) and it was too crowded.
So the number thing would work better.

The trip was fabulous. For me, it's still not over. Frisco and I were planning on wandering through Chicago today, but we need to be back here at five and it's 1:00 now, so I don't think that's going to happen.

Oh, let me think of everything that happened. This will probably be disjointed.

1. Mooselet is the man. He was the most enthusiastic dancer out there. He danced with every little girl aged six and under, and he kept switching partners. They were literally lining up for the chance. One little girl (3)started crying when he ditched her for an older woman (5).

2. Punwit is a fabulous dancer, and we did some Western swing. He spun me hard enough my skirt would twirl. It was wonderful.

3. The late night conversation in a series of hotel rooms. Icarus sat on a chair and just watched, inscrutably. Everyone else piled on and played Flux and talked. Fugu says it was deep. I knew I was missing things - maybe that was one of them. I will say that it's like a switch - 1:00 and the collective sense of humor became one large out of context conversation.

So many things...braiding Eddie's hair in the car, and then watching him seriously contemplate a white suit, orange shirt, and mint bowler hat for the wedding. I think he refrained out of a desire to not be camera fodder. So much for that. [Razz]

And now Steve is urging me to get off the computer so we can go to lunch.

Gah! Where's he taking you??

AJ{-- stuck at work, missing out on the fun. [Cry]

Man - do I feel stupid! In playing around with PhotoShop, I just found a way to create an entire web-ready photo gallery of all my images in about 10 seconds --

I really ought to read the help menu more often..

Farmgirl -- Don't delete them! There are some neat pics! Just make the bottom two the top two, and pic one of them as the "official" group shot.

AJ, that's exactly what he said. "I have to do this to AJ all the time." Eddie even came into the room to get me to get off - darn pushy men. [Razz] We went to an Italian restaurant and talked about corruption and Eddie's transformation into Indiana Jones.

More memories:

I curled AJ's hair - she looked like Drew Barrymore from Dick Tracy. Together with the pink ruffly shirt, she said it didn't even look like her, but I think it's just another aspect. I didn't put enough gel in the front, though, so the curls fell out too soon. It was adorable.

Dana and Bob looked so happy. Dana was just glowing, and Bob looked like he could fly. The posable couple on the top of the cake were very cute, and the posable couple by the guest book kept getting caught in, um, compromising positions. In the church, no less. They weren't even ashamed of themselves.

I had a wonderful time. I did my level best to keep up with the younger crowd and fared reasonably well but fell a little short on Saturday when I crashed on the couch. Fugu, Frisco, Icarus, Shigosei, AJ, Eljay, and Kat politely moved to another room and I woke up alone. [Cry]
Oh, BTW, if any of you are interested, I managed to NOT sleep in the wet spot.

I loved dancing with: ELjay, Kat, Farmgirl, Shigosei, AJ, and the incomparable Sophia. (I can't believe how light she is on her feet.) I wish I'd got to dance more but I'm old and I got winded. It's safe to say that I'm at least energetic for short stints but I have a hard time maintaining that level indefinately. Fugu and I considered a waltz together but, alas, it did not come to pass. If I have missed anyone my humble apologies.

Getting the chance to converse one on one with some of you was also a highlight. I wish there had been time to do that with everyone. The ceremony was absolutely delightful and filled with humor. I wouldn't have missed this for anything. I have a few pics and will upload them later. Love you all!!

Posted by plaid (Member # 2393) on :

Dang! Wish I had more time to post right now and read all these follow-up threads...

ElJay's nice enough not to mention it, but part of the reason she was late on Sunday was that I spaced out on doing the navigating when she was dropping me off in Des Moines. (But, since it worked out that way for dkw to drive her back, then, yeah, maybe it was a good thing that I was so bad at paying attention to where we were going,)

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Finally! I have made it to a computer with a connection!

I have so much to say and so little time to say it (the library at school closes soon).

rivka-it was our pleasure (as was eating that awesome sandwich from that kosher deli in Des Moines). You were just as wonderful as I thought you would be!

DanaNBob-What a party! Thank you so much for inviting Xavier and I. I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to talk more, just a "Hi, I'm Val. *hug* Congrats." I know we'll meet again at the next Con.

MackNNathan-you two were great to hang out with. Nathan-thanks for answering all of my "Mormon questions" [Big Grin] When Xav and I brush up on our fencing, make sure to bring your gear to the next get together.

kat-not sure I got a chance to mention it, but I loved the outfit you wore to the wedding, I stared enviously all through the reception and thanks for the wonderful breakfast conversation at Village Inn.

While I have a lot more to say, I have time only to say one last thing.

I'd like to name my favorite Hatracker at this time.

Mooselet- [Kiss] You are very lucky your parents didn't leave me alone with you or you would have a new home in Nebraska by now!! Why didn't anyone warn me how wonderful this child was?!

Otherwise, the wedding was fantabulous! Thank you, Hatrackers, for coming, for being soooo nice, for accepting Posable Nurse and me into your "fraternity," and if you couldn't be there, for sending the good vibes that permeated the weekend.

I think the only "hitch" in the wedding was when the ring bearer got shy and wouldn't go up the aisle until the bridesmaids did. Not knowing who was who for the most part, but going by names from the program, I'm guessing the ring bearer was waiting for mom/sister/aunt/cousin or some such relation ...

Anyway, it was a cute moment.

I want to hug everyone. I'm glad that coming home is a pleasure, but I had so much fun and I wish it was still going on.

Time to go through five dozen photos.

Farmgirl, I think that's actually the key. Eddie KNOWS that stripping in front of the girls is going to generate uncomfortable attention, but he thinks he's safe with the guys. To the men, I have to say thank you. You do love us, after all. [Wink]

I met Bob and Dana!!!! [Party]

They are in London and safe and happy and all newly-wed-y. They have rented a lovely apartment in Sloane Square for two weeks - it's small, but tastefully furnished and in the posh part of London and cheaper than hotels. They need sleep, which is what I imagine they are doing now.

I met them at their apartment at 4 this afternoon London time and we walked up to South Kensington past some furniture shops (Bob had to hold on to Dana so she didn't disappear inside every single one - they are intending to go to Harrods tomorrow). We stood around for a bit by the V&A deciding whether to do museums or Hyde Park and Dana decided that we should do the park. We'd talked non-stop up to this point and indeed continued to do so all evening - I can't recall in detail everything we talked about but it was fun and much laughter was shared and I don't think Bob made many puns. Anyway after almost getting run over by silly London drivers a few times we made it in to the park and walked around and watched ducks play in the Serpentine and dogs play in the park and sat on a bench and talked more and then walked back out of the park.

I'd already suggested going for dinner at the Kensington Creperie - it's a tiny little place that's always packed and always serves fantastic food. We popped in earlier to see if they took bookings but they didn't, so we just chanced our luck at about 6 and found a table. It filled up not long after, though. We had a savoury and a sweet crepe each and Bob kept complimenting the food, which made me happy. We still hadn't stopped talking - there were no awkward silences at all. They are both lovely people and it was wonderful to meet them. Bob wouldn't let me pay my share of the bill, even when I told him not to be daft (for which he made fun of my accent). I walked back to their apartment with them, via a very small Tesco's (supermarket) - they bought coffee and quiches for breakfast. I managed to forget my camera completely and Dana left hers at the apartment so when we got back there we had the guy at the front desk take a picture of us. I imagine they'll send it to ludosti to be put on foobonic when they get back. All in all, it was a fantastic evening with two fantastic people (who are so in love with each other it's amazing).

I have found throwing shoes at them works pretty well, never hit flowers (or hit with flowers).

Ivy, my cousin was told "no dating till you're sixteen" then the day she turned sixteen her mom said "well maybe 15 and a half would have been ok." I was just told "not till i say you're ready" and hopefully the parents just forgot to say I was ready.

Well, if my mom did it when I was ready, I would've been dating awhile ago. I think it's more when SHE'S ready for me to date. Which means when I'm 40. [Big Grin]

Also, FG did say that I could go to prom with this guy, so I don't know whether or not that's really dating. Hmmm....

Weird freaky randomness:

So you know how different cities have codes for airports, etc? Los Angeles = LAX, Philadelphia = PHL, Portland, OR = PDX, etc...

Well, after I visited friends in Des Moines after being at BobNDana Con, I took Amtrak to get out here to Salt Lake City.

The closest train station to Des Moines?

It's in Osceola...

Its code is OSC

First of all, Jamie you're hired. I want you and you only to take pictures when Phil and I get married. While I don't know exactly when that will be, I do know that Phil will agree with me.

Second, you left your 20 sided die in the trunk of my car. Took me a while to figure out where it came from.

Lastly, I would really like to have copies of a few of those photos and I don't trust Phil's printer to do them any justice. Tell me what I need to do to get them from you.

Nikki (crap, how do you spell it?), I'd love to do your wedding photos. As for getting printed pics, I can do them for you, I just have to double check with Bob and Dana. I mean, they paid me for the job, so I'm not certain how it all works. I haven't a clue, actually. Someone MUST know.

I'd give them a standard assortment of basic pics (a handful of small ones of each of three pics, a handful of medium sized ones of different pics, two smallish large pics, and one big pic of the happy couple), and let the rest be ordered ala carte, with the cost being your cost plus a small surcharge per pic for the time you take in preparing it for printing (cropping so the aspect ratio works, for instance), which should be greater the greater the amount of time you need to spend involved in the printing. Say 15% at minimum, maybe more like 20%.

I'm not a fan of letting go of control of the negatives (well, what negatives there are), that also loses you artistic control. Not that it would be too big a deal with Bob'n'Dana, but some people would get crappy prints and blame your photography. In the case of digital photographs, you're going to want to add a watermark to the larger resolutions you let people look at online, in the future, to prevent such activity (this can be done automagically, of course).

Plus, these are a revenue base from you, and you do own the copyright. Its reasonable you control the copying. Give discounts for popular/standard packages of prints, of course.

I think that most of the exciting stories have already been covered. Did anyone mention that interesting cafe we went to on Saturday morning? They had a wall full of shelves of alcohol, and AJ was kind enough to give us all a great deal of information about the various brands and kinds. The cafe also had quite a bit of musical equipment, so it is probably a pretty fun place at night. Also, they had good sandwiches.

I sat by the Meeses during the service. Before the service started, Mooselet gave me a hug and told me I looked pretty. I'm pretty sure that drops of my melted heart are still under a pew somewhere. Moosie and Mama Squirrel, you have an adorable family. Mooselet is already breaking girls' hearts, and it looks like Superstation was having a good time flirting with Sophie.

Sophie, by the way, is every bit as cute and intelligent as the Davidsons have made her out to be. Yaaaaaay Sophie! *claps*

Thank you ElJay and Punwit, for coming to pick me up at the airport. Also, thanks for the extra scenic tour of the area, ElJay! [Wink]

Stray, I just have to say that I thought your self-patterning yarn was about the coolest thing ever. I might have to take up knitting just so I can watch it in action.

Mackillian, I have been awaiting every new batch of pictures with great anticipation. Thanks for sharing them with us--you have a great eye for beauty.

Thanks for rooming with me, Rivka! You were a great roommate.

BannaOJ, Kat, Frisco, ElJay and Fugu, I enjoyed the wrestling match/talking/lying around. Remind me never to get in a fight with either ElJay or Frisco. I'll either end up getting bitten or shoved headfirst off of a bed.

Icarus and Cor, the little last minute meeting at the airport was fun! Thanks for coming to look for me.

[Cry] We didn't make enough of an impact on Amy to get mentioned in her post! [Cry]

mack - I have no idea -- I have photographed some weddings in the past, but gave all rights and negatives to the couple for two reasons 1)I didn't want to mess with re-orders, enlargements, etc. 2)they were usually people who couldn't afford REAL photographers - so if they wanted to get their reprints at Wal-Mart, so be it (at least I wouldn't be around to cringe at the results). I think that would be totally up to the Scopatzs' (how do you plural Scopatz?) as to who gets rights.

Nicole -- I had no idea you and Phil weren't already married! (that's what I get for assuming, right)? Well - when you do -- be sure to invite all of us. It would be great fun!

I didn't hear any yelps of pain and he's still in there washing dishes. I'm afraid to look.

Ack! That's what I get for mentioning specific people. Farmgirl and Ivygirl, it was indeed a pleasure to meet you. I'm sorry we didn't get to talk more. Ivygirl, good luck with "inviting" that guy to prom!

I would also like to say that seeing Nathan again was fun, and meeting Lime and Vana and Xavier and Valentine and Plaid. Wish I could have spent a little more time with all of you.

I also got to meet Bob and Dana, who were very nice but understandably highly distracted.

I'd definitely like to see the pillow fight pictures. [my hatrack username] at gmail.com

Oh - she finally talked to him about it yesterday. Unfortunately, another girl had already asked him first.

So she's is going stag, but going to have fun anyway! [Big Grin]

Somebody better post them. I wanna see them, too.

I haven't gotten any e-mails from plaid - I don't tthink he's near a computer right now.

and he's going to be at the peace protest at five, and with hatrackers thereafter...

Which is cool. [Smile] I'm sure we'll see them eventually.

Either there were several pillow fights or I was more comatose than I thought during the pillow fight/wrestling match since I don't remember plaid being there. Of course he is such a laid back kinda guy it may be my perceptive abilities at question here. So, late night owls, which is it?

He was a non-violent participant [Wink] As I recall there were sort of two pillowfights one earlier and one later. It was the later one that required ice. After Ken was done playing scrabble he came over and played fluxx. Remember there were three boys on the one bed and three girls on the other?

The three boys were Frisco, fugu, and punwit. Plaid was playing scrabble at the couches, and jumped up to take the picture when the first pillow fight broke out, as I recall.

Frisco started that one, too. [Razz]

Added: The fourth person to join us was Shigosei.

(now I'm second guessing, maybe he wasn't on the bed, cause that would have been frisco, fugu and punwit, but I'd swear he squeezed in and played at least a round, maybe the second game?)

He went to bed at some point and Icarus was still hanging out when we went over to ElJay's room.

Ummm, Frisco, Fugu, Punwit. I was playing flux and stood up suddenly to quit. This was after the scrabble game broke up. Icky was the only one left from the Scrabble scrabble.

Icky didn't say much. I'd love to see a transcript of what he was thinking.

*remembers* I never did get a Keeper in Flux. Dang it.

The first pillow fight, when Plaid took pictures, was when the scrabble game was still going on. The fight that resulted in injuries was later. (And did not involve pillows, initially... after I pushed Frisco off the bed he came charging back and practically broke my nose with one.) Now do we have the timeline straight? [Wink]

so he must not have played flux, I must be imagining things. My brain gets far worse with sleep deprivation than it does with booze.

Yeah, and thanks. I got it now. [Wave]

Yeah, Mack, the die is blue and I'll email you the ones I want. Just let me know what you want to charge me for them. Paypal ok?

No, Farmgirl, not married (yet) and of course all of you would be invited. It probably wouldn't be in Omaha though, we'd like to have a beach ceremony.

I posted an off the cuff remark that some may have viewed and I deleted it almost immediately. It was a knee jerk reaction to a certain alignment of words. It wasn't terribly offensive but upon viewing the post I realized that a reference to a warfare beachhead wasn't appropriate to a discussion of a possible wedding site. I wish Nicole and Phil all the best in their life together. [Blushing]

Not even ONE? How many games did you play?

two, they both ended pretty fast.

I'd just like to add that this is probably only one of about 10 bobNdanacon wrap-up threads. You know there will be several from getting back from the honeymoon and finding out where they are going to be living and more pictures.

I see us in the near future, if we don't already, having enough threads to take up an entire page at hatrack of *just* "BobNDanacon".

Ain't it grand? [Big Grin]

(But let's not start bumping them all to check, K?)

Only two short games of Fluxx?

Amateurs.

well punwit kind of crashed, and there was the whole problem with the wet spot on the bed...
