My wife recieved an email offering a $170 flight to Atlanta. She was needing to go to Atlanta, so she clicked on it. The cost, $235.00

I had the same thing happen when they sent me a $99 flight to Vegas ticket, and a $299 ticket to Hawaii. Each time I tried, they would not match the rate advertised.

My wife just spent 45 minutes on the phone with them demanding an answer. They responded that those special starting rates are for only a few seats, and get booked up quickly.

While the ad mentions "Starting at $XXX" it does not mention limited availablility. The ad also mentions, good through April 11th, which is hard to imagine since its not good the same day its sent out.

Now before we contact the BBB and our state Attorney General who has made a name for herself prosecuting business fraud, I want to know if anyone has ever recieved one of these advertised discount rates.

No, I get "starting from" rates that aren't to where I want to go, so I can live with the fact that mine are a little higher. I've never tried to take a trip to one of the advertised cities. But you're right, nowhere does it mention limited availability of seats at that rate.

I just had a Orbitz autonotify watch on tickets to Toronto, so I could go to Hatrack.ca. It sent me a notification that there were tickets in my price range available, and I was able to book those tickets.

I have never tried to book one of their advertised deals, though, so I don't know about those.

I find that advertised fares almost never include taxes or "surcharges" (legislated airport fees), so the ultimate cost is invariably significantly higher than the cost you see before trying to book.

Actually, on my Toronto ticket, the notify fare included everything but six bucks. I was pleasantly surprised by that.

That's amusing, because I was unpleasantly surprised by mine. I've flown Toronto-Halifax return for less (though not much less). But then, we just had an airline go under here, and prices have taken a noticeable jump.

Edit: For reference, Sarnia-Toronto is 40 minutes while Toronto-Halifax is just shy of two hours.

I think I paid about $124 to fly from San Diego to Atlanta to Norfolk last fall. It was a one way, I drove back. I didn't think that was bad at all. An' I got to meet some nice people on the way. [Big Grin]

I have to buy plane tickets for my children to fly to the mainland for their summer visits with their dad each year. Until this year, I've always bought the tickets through Orbitz.

The trips I purchased were never the special deal routes (those are all TO Hawaii instead of from here [Dont Know] ), but they were significantly less expensive than any other travel sites.

Ya, the advertised price is always much lower than the actual price. They charge a fortune in taxes and fees.

I have had luck with hotwire. Last year I booked a flight and hotel (package deal) through them and saved a lot of money.

The most expensive $94 Orbitz will ever make.

*warning, some profanity*

I was wondering how long it would take before somebody posted that.

That guy is an IDOIT, and I wish Orbitz would crash a plane into his computer so I never see that web site again .
