Here is how to pronounce it correctly, and I also say it the way most anglophones do.

Sorry it took so long. [Smile]

Oooh...I like your voice. [Smile]

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

It's a smidgen scratchier than normal today, I have a tickle in my throat. I just hope it doesn't develop into some sort of illness...

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Yeah. You should totally be a narrator in documentaries or something.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

I'm not sure why, but I can't seem to hear it. The volumne is way low on mine. I can hear other things, though.

[Cool] [Big Grin]

I told you you have a cool name. It just got cooler.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Its the perfect voice for a narrator of a movie trailer or something. You should see if you can be the announcer for the Ender's Game movie trailer when one is needed.

Posted by Ryuko (Member # 5125) on :

That first R is trilled, eh? and the first a sounds more like and e. I'll practice. Where's it from?

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

No, then he'd have to be a SEVEN FOOT TALL MAN WHO'S BEEN SMOKING SINCE CHILDHOOD.

Of course, he may be those things.

I totally would have pronounced it "tween-kee."

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

SO cool.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

My mother is Palestinian, Abby.

Posted by Ryuko (Member # 5125) on :

(nod) That's cool. What does it mean?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

"Hope."

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Nothing to do with tigers, then?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Nope, and that's pronounced differently anyway.

Icarus, I went back and listened to your name today. I can pronounce it, I think. [Smile] Edit: and I'm sorry you can't seem to hear my audio file. [Frown]

I expect he hears that all the time. (Edit: I mean the tiger comment).

Not as much these days, but there was a time, yes.

Posted by Ryuko (Member # 5125) on :

That's really beautiful.

That word is spelled Rajah, anyway.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

The first way is how I hear it in my head when I'm reading it. I'm sure I butcher it when I say it, though. Sorry.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

S'ok, so does everyone else. [Smile]

Posted by aspectre (Member # 2222) on :

Wow, you Canadians sure spell funny. I always thought it was pronounced Ra-ja.
Oh well...with your voice, you can always come down and get a national television newsanchor spot.
NBC and CBS have openings.

Asparagus?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

[Razz] You know she posted that just to get a response.

*whisper* tt&t, huh?

Awesome! Great voice too!

Posted by Rappin' Ronnie Reagan (Member # 5626) on :

One of the a's in Raja is the same as one of the a's in asparagus. I leave it to you to decide which a's, though, because my memory is only so good.

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Lovely. Simply lovely. A very elegant name.

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

pffft. easy. [Big Grin]

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Played it on my desktop computer with the speakers. [Smile]

I'm sure I would have anglicized without knowing better, but having heard it, I'm positive I can say it correctly. [Smile]

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Asparagus indeed. [Smile]

I bet that there are more people here who can say it right than there are in the general population. Obviously I'll have to start going to more Hatrack gatherings! [Big Grin]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

You rock, twinky. Thanks for that. [Smile]

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I could say it as long as I practice.

[Eek!]

"Elegant" is a new one. No one has ever called any property of my person "elegant" before...

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Oooo, that's the name of my uncle's horse. He is a beautiful horse, but we call him Ra. [/random fact of the moment]

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Your voice and name are both quite elegant. [Smile]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

*agrees*

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

[Blushing]

That's sweet. [Smile]

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

do you really blush?

Posted by Dragon (Member # 3670) on :

*also agrees*

(with the elegance, not the blush comment)

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

By the way, correct pronunciation of someone's name can be important when casting spells. Thanks for sharing.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

Aha! So Catholics really are pagans after all! I knew it all along.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Quiet, you!

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

[ROFL]

Kama, I'm honestly not sure whether or not I blush.

Posted by mothertree (Member # 4999) on :

I think you mean "Quietusque Jon Boy!" :scribbles in air with wand:

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

(psssst, Kama! I'll tell twinky dirty jokes at hatrack.ca and report back on the blushing thing!)

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Dirty jokes aren't very likely to make me blush. Just a heads-up.

Dammit, I stop refreshing for two minutes to eat some dinner and I miss the post! [Mad]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I missed it, too. *grumps* I was writing an email.

If jokes won't work, I'm sure I'll find something.

Posted by Dragon (Member # 3670) on :

I missed it three.

Though really there was only a 2 minute window during which anyone could have seen it, so I'm pretty sure not very many people did.

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Nothing to see. Moving right along, people, moving right along. [Smile]

Posted by tt&t (Member # 5600) on :

Raja does, in fact, blush. Quite prettily even. [Evil]

Posted by Dragon (Member # 3670) on :

awwwwwwwwwwwww that's so cute!

[Evil Laugh]

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

I do?

Huh. Well, you'd know, so I'll take your word for it. [Smile]

(Or, should I say, [Blushing] )

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

on what occasions?

[Monkeys]

Posted by tt&t (Member # 5600) on :

I'll leave you to figure that one out for yourself. [Wink]
