The woman who used to have my job left this position to transfer to another department. Soon after I was hired as her replacement, my boss told me how she had expected to make more money in the other position, but Human Resources ruled it a horizontal move and she still makes the same thing.

I, on the other hand, got hired on the tier above where she did, and therefore make more starting money. (It's not much...and I have no idea if she got a raise and makes more now or not. I don't care.)

Anyway, she sends these nasty little "reminder" emails and notes to me every chance she can get. If I make any sort of mistake, she'll tell me what I'm supposed to do. This morning she cc'd one to my boss. Now I'm not worried about that, but it just annoys me SO much that she did that. I have only been working here a few months, so yeah, I'm going to make mistakes. Also, my priorities (and my boss seems very pleased about this) for this job are different than hers were. She did the bare minimum, and as far as I can tell, never instituted any sort of positive change. The state of the computer files and procedures manual for this position was pathetic when I got here. They're awesome now. And I DO keep up with those mundane little details, but I'm still working out a schedule for those things that I only do periodically, like once a month. So sometimes, my schedule gets off kilter.

I just feel like ranting... she annoys me so much! I'm very good at my job, and my boss loves me. So Nyah!

Edit: And, call me catty if you'd like--I'm feeling snarky--but I interviewed for the position a year before she left it (same time she got the job), and I was their FIRST choice. I didn't take it because of school conflicts. I have no idea if she knows this. I certainly never told her.

Oh yeah.. the reason I posted this.. Feel free to express a few rants of your own.

The reason I'm really upset about this is the attempt to make me look bad. I think it's so petty. I've had to stop myself several times from making any sort of reply--even cc'ing them to my boss as well. Instead, I think it's better just to ignore the email and put the form she wants in her mailbox.

If the roles were reversed, I simply would have dropped by her desk or sent a little email asking for a new list when she got a chance. In a nice way. With Smilies!

And it's not just me. I've read other emails she's sent to other people (they were printed out as examples in the "procedures" book) and she had a rude, abrupt tone with them, too. And some of these emails were asking people who DONATE to the library to bring in their missing issues. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we should be NICE to people who DONATE to us. Whether they get a tax break or not.

Well... okay... I just replied to myself... I need to just calm down I think. I might be overreacting. But at least I'm overreacting on the INSIDE. [Smile]

Well good for you.

I guess living well is the best revenge. [Big Grin]

If I were you, I'd probably send a very polite email thanking her for her "advice" and letting her know that if you ever needed any help in the future, you'd be sure to let her know.

Jon, that is wht I would have suggested, with one more thing addes...I would cc her boss with that note as well, once I had made him aware of the issue.

When I read the title of this thread, I was unclear as to who was doing the annoying - you or the passive-aggressive co-workers. [Big Grin]

If you want to be juvenile, saran-wrap the entrance to her cubicle and fill it with styrofoam peanuts. [Big Grin]

Finally, a thread about me!

Oh... wait....

Trevor, I was wondering that, too. If "annoying" is verb in that sentence instead of an adjective, and the title is a question, this is the right place to get advice. [Evil]

Hey, I didn't mean it as a verb, but I'm all for it!

I work in a library by the way...

I've decided not to respond. I've already put the list in her box. (Formatted much more nicely than the one she used! I'm so snotty.)

I've toyed with the idea of leaving her little notes that her student workers are leaving the shelves in such a deplorable condition--and that I know it's not her fault--students can be SO hard to work with.. [Smile]

I, of course, would follow her lead and nitpick about little things. The shelves really don't look all that bad. But it's a big library. I could find something. And that's what ticks me off so much.. she's LOOKING for these things!

Eh...

My boss walked by my desk so I told her that the list was in Marsha's box (name changed--not sure why). She kinda grinned--and one of us said something like Marsha should be really happy about that. I told her that I thought I should let her know, since Marsha had decided that she should know about it. She laughed and told me that there had never been a _monthly_ retention list--that the person who had Marsha's job before her had just worked from one list, doing the "math" herself. I grinned. I told her that to be fair, Marsha had asked me to give her one monthly, but that I just had forgotten to do it. My boss made a joke about it not coming up on my "tickle" file. I had never heard that before... [Smile]

So, as I suspected, my boss is simply amused at the whole situation and is happy to let me do my job on my own.
