Yeah, I think it's funny just how rarely these get deleted. We definitely have some geriatric mayflies buzzing about the forum.

Well, a little over half of those that showed up in a search (word mayfly in subject) were deleted, so it could be worse.

Perhaps mayflies have built up immunities to deletion.

A MUTATION! OH NO!

quote:... that night, the skies filled with mayflies. Yet these creatures did not naturally die but lived for days, weeks, months even. It was like a plague...
quote:... I remember my uncle captured an individual one and we observed how this same mayfly lived on and on...
quote:... soon you could scarely open your mouth without being afraid that one of these horrific unnatural creatures would enter it...

Please clarify, oh moderator, sir.
Are you saying that people should stop calling them mayflies if they're not actually going to delete them? Should actually delete their mayflies?
Or simply noting the fact that Hatrack mayflies seem to have longer-than-expected lifespans?

Rivka, I think he was in Papa Moose mode, but I was wondering those three things myself.

Yeah, I think that it's going to take us awhile to adjust to the fact that "Papa Moose" can have opinions and make statements that we shouldn't necessarily be interpreting as hints from "Papa Janitor."
Or maybe rivka's just being funny, and I'm slow this early in the morning.

Will Papa Moose continue posting as Papa Moose, unless he's janitorizing, in which case, he uses Papa Janitor?
Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :
Sure looks that way to me...
Papa Moose can tell me I'm blowing smoke on any of this, of course, but I think it's important that we don't start treating him differently than before 'cause he's moderator now. Our prior/other moderators took actual official action rarely, and Papa is a longstanding, active member of our community. If we start pussy-footing all around him, he could feel ostracized. Naturally, there's going to be an adjustment period. But I think it would be nice if we're congnizant of the potential issues.
Added: What I'm trying to say is it would really suck if everytime you posted a joke people started trying to figure out the board's official position and/or if what you said means they're going to get sanctioned based on your words. Papa Moose's day-to-day opinions ain't gonna start changing the user agreement or anything.

The answer to most of the questions asked is yes. Unless something is posted from "Papa Janitor," you can assume I'm just being me, in no official capacity. That's why I have the separate names.

For the record, I did note the fact that he posted as "Papa Moose." More importantly, the "just sayin'" alerted me to the fact that this was unlikely to be an official-type post.
However, like Elizabeth, I was wondering. And as ElJay surmised, I was trying to be funny . . . at least a bit. *self-deprecating shrug*

Well, some threads may fly. And the ones which don't, disappear.
