He's kinda cool. I don't know about "awesome". But anyone Kate Wolf respected that much has got to be pretty neat, at least; she surrounded herself with good people.

I've got most of his albums. A few are, indeed, awesome. Most of them are at least good. A few of them totally suck. But yeah, I like the guy. When he's good, he's really good. I like folk, and he's written some of the best folk I've ever heard.

He is incredible. We have a live show of his, and it is one of my favorites. He is playing in Northampton soon, but it is way to expensive. i am too spoiled by music festivals where I can pay 60 bucks for four days of constant music.

One of the first folk artists I ever liked, and still one of my favourites. He's got the same kind of voice quality as Cat Stevens and Stan Rogers in my mind, all of which I could listen to for days and not get bored.

I've always liked him. He, Joan Baez, Peter Paul & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, Judy Collins, Joanie Mitchell, Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger and to a lesser extent The Chieftains and Crosby Stills & Nash make up the soundtrack of my childhood. My parents' stereo was the only expensive piece of technology we owned until my brother and I started buying computers, and it was almost always playing an album by one of the artists above. With the exception of Simon & Garfunkel I haven't heard much of that music in years.

My parents have a few old records of him, but the only song I know by him is "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." I like that one though. [Smile]

Lightfoot is definitely awesome. I used to have all his albums on vinyl, but they got lost in my recent move, so I'm having to make do with my copy of "Summertime Dream" on CD. I've got to do something about replacing the rest of the collection. His voice, his writing - all amazing. Not that much of an actor though - did you ever see "Harry Tracy"? Oh, well. No one's perfect.

My favorites of his songs include "Spanish Moss", "Don Quixote", "Cherokee Bend", and "Song For a Winter's Night". Among others.

I've only heard one of his albums. I liked the music itself, but it was over-produced (not his fault, the record company's, I'm sure). I'd like to hear more from him.

mm, yeah, I love Gordon Lightfoot. I don't ever get to listen to him, though, because I only listen to music at work, and they don't like folk.

I love "Song for a Winter's Night" and "Don Quixote." I only have greatest hits, though -- now I'm inspired to go out and buy the shipwreck song.

The one advantage to working alone - I always get to pick the music! I was just there, and listening to Stan Rogers. I thought of this thread because "Carefree Highway" wouldn't get out of my head, so I put on the Northwest Passage tape to get a new song. (It worked. Now it's the "Field Behind the Plough" one.)

My favourite Gordon Lightfoot song is Beautiful, which no one's mentioned yet. I like Minstrel of the Dawn and Song For A Winter's Night too. Hmm, this reminds me that I need to sit down and learn some of these soon...
