It sucks. I'm not meant for it, I swear. I don't know how to handle it. It's like I'm Calvin when he gets sick and the doctor and his mom says it takes the edge off him and he isn't his energetic mischievious self.

That's me. This sinus infection won't die. I'm tired, feverish, my head hurts. I've got little appetite and no energy. I feel like a lazy slug. I haven't fenced or worked out for a week and I'm desperate to. If I don't take tylenol, I've got a fever. It isn't reasonable to fence or work out with a fever, even if the tylenol has it at bay, right?

Not a great idea. Likely to dehydrate yourself, and I think heat exhaustion is not unlikely. [Frown]

Feel better, sweetie.

Take a nap. Naps always help. Or at least most of the time. (((mack))) I hope you get to feeling better.

Oye, I'm with you Mac. One of my friends held a LAN party on Saturday night and we all went of course, having no reason to suspect anything was wrong. We found him coughing and hacking up a storm. In response to our queries he said merely 'its allergies, don't worry about it'.

Allergies my ass.

The thing is, I've basically been sick since I came back from Georgia (which was at the end of March, mind you). I've had two full courses of antibiotics, and am currently on my third. After my second course of antibiotics, I was better and felt myself for about a week and a half. Then it came back. [Frown]

It is time for you to see an ear nose and throat person. Can you?

Where do they hide?

Ask your regular doc for a referral, or check your insurance company's website, if you're allowed to self-refer.

Ok, I've got it! Go to a doctor and complain till he/she fixes it.

Edit: This isn't supposed to be sarcastic or anything.

Poor Mack. I hope you feel better soon. Oh, and I really miss chatting with you on AIM. My computer burned up, so I've been using my husband's and have been hesitant to download anything to it. For you, though, I just might risk the placid wrath of Mr. Opera. [Wink]

I know how you feel, Mack. I've been sick since last Wednesday. I thought it was the flu (runny nose, headaches, persistent fevers, coughing, sore throat, etc.) but it's not going away at all so I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow. Being sick sucks. [Grumble]

Hey, Avaduru doesn't really know how you feel. He's (she's?) only been sick since what, last Wednesday? Naaaaaaah!!!

Now, me, on the other hand. I've been sick for three weeks with a stupid ear infection, so I'm light headed, dizzy, got major headaches, a lowgrade fever, sore jaw and teeth, and I'm on my third course of antibiotics, too. Now, I'm in a real position to sympathize! Move over, Avaduru! [Big Grin]

Seriously, I totally get what you're talking about. It sucks. Take it easy and get better. [Smile]

She. And it's Avadaru with an A. [Wink]

Random question, but what exactly causes ear infections? How do you get one? I had one when I was about 5, but I don't remember anything except that it hurt.

My apologies, Avadaru, on the misspelling and the male thing.

No idea what causes an ear infection. Not a clue. All I know is that it hurts like heck and mine is resistant to amoxicillin.

I rarely get sick. I do not know why; my nutrition has been subpar for the past year or so despite my best half-assed efforts and I have kept up a relatively constant pushing of my body's limits for the last two and a half. My guess is either the multivitamins or karmic rewards for asthma when I was younger.

I seem to get a reasonably bad cough every fall and spring, though. I am just getting out of the spring one, which has plagued me since Thursday. And I do suffer constantly from allergies.

Or maybe the reason I am rarely sick is that I ignore the times when I am. No matter how sick I am, I maintain my use of whatever I had planned, and if anything increase my consumption of downers, which usually means alcohol. If I am drunk, nodding, or benzoed out, I can ignore whatever might be wrong. Not that I would encourage anyone else to do that, but perhaps excercise might not be such a bad idea after all if you can stand it. Should be healthy anyway, and probably increases fatigue and thus that blessed period of unconsciousness.

From here
quote:
Blockage of the eustachian tube during a cold, allergy, or upper respiratory infection and the presence of bacteria or viruses lead to the accumulation of fluid (a build-up of pus and mucus) behind the eardrum. This is the infection called acute otitis media. The build up of pressurized pus in the middle ear causes earache, swelling, and redness. Since the eardrum cannot vibrate properly, you or your child may have hearing problems.

Ok, how weird is it that I saw your thread title, and thought "her first sentence is going to be: 'It sucks.'"??

We just found my fiancee has mono... Not a lot of fun, and neverending.

I've misplaced my mucinex. I had it yesterday morning, and I can't find it now. [Mad] That crap is expensive, but dammit, it WORKS.

I was sick yesterday.

It used to be that I rarely got sick, but this is about the 5th time I've been sick this year! [Wall Bash]

Being sick does suck. I've got some sort of weird illness that seems to be going around here - very tired, fever, headache, not much else wrong other than a dry/slight sore throat. I think I may have to go home from work early and get some more sleep - stupid neighbors playing drums for just a few seconds every 20-30 mins from 9-11pm!

Good luck, Mack.

mac, that's so crummy. I went through a 2-year period where I had almost constant bronchitis and it was the pits. Quitting smoking helped tremendously, as did finally seeing a doctor (I'm a big believer in letting things run their course and I have antibiotic phobias).

I agree that you should see an ENT. BTW, have you seen an allergist?

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I haven't seen an allergist. ElJay's story scared the crap out of me. [Eek!]

When I talked to my father this weekend, he said he thinks it's allergies. I didn't have seasonal allergies until I was 22 and never had a sinus infection until I was nearly 25, so they're probably related. Specially considering it started when I went to Georgia in the midst of the Georgia spring.

I'd smack my forehead, but that'd hurt.

I'm just so reluctant to call my PCP again. I feel like a pain in the rear, like I'm not sick enough, or something.

Reluctance killed the cat. Or was it curiousity? Ah well, still gets the point across.
