A while back, a whole bunch of Hatrackers got spammed by a "newbie" -- and spammed his board in return.

I have a [Razz] lovely little missive in my inbox. I looked for a thread on this, and then used the search function. Either no one started one, or I'm not finding it.

Or I was selected to be the lucky one. [Roll Eyes] [No No]

Whoever "Ender" is, don't spam me. You will not like my response.

This is the third thread on it. No, you were far from the only one.

Nope, not alone

I got it too.

An odd thing was he never said he was from Hatrack -- he said he was from "the Orson Scott Card message board".

*sigh* Ok, so the search function never works properly. But I'm not usually BLIND. [Blushing]

Ya know, I never noticed that till you mentioned it just now, Porter. I'm becoming more and more tempted to forward his message to abuse@comcast...

*mutters half-heartedly about people who give their serious threads misleading titles*

Well, the thread topic didn't indicate it, and the thread on the other side was kinda generic in its topic, too.

The interesting thing, if this is the same creep as before, is that the board seems to have some legit traffic. A fair amount, even.

Of course, it could have all been faked by someone with way too much time on their hands. [Dont Know]

No. I looked, it seems just like some dork trying to get more traffic onto his favorite forum. I don't think I'd WANT to join. The level of intelligence there is...uhh...low.

Well when I first posted I was hoping that I'd find the guy was a regular on the group and I wouldn't have a reason to whine about him... and then I just forgot to rename it... LOL

edit: and the last guy got real traffic? Not just us harassing him? (I didn't bother to look at the site again when I searched out the old thread but there were at least a half dozen of us stating in the thread here that we were bombarding him on his forum.)

Oh yeah, I got that.

I was referring to this one, who may or may not be the same guy.

No idea if that other site ever got legit traffic. [Dont Know]

I noticed right away that his e-mail was the name of the forum we trashed... Now, that doesn't prove anything, but I can't say I wouldn't put it past him.

A simple way to deal with spammers is to hitthem where it hurts, in this case it would be internet access. You can't send spam if you can't access the web. It seems this spammer uses comcast.
quote:
Comcast Abuse Policy
The Comcast IP Network Abuse Department is responsible for supporting and enforcing the policies set forth in the Comcast Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") and Comcast High-Speed Internet ("HSI") Service Customer Agreement ("Customer Agreement"). The policies set forth in the AUP and Customer Agreement have been put in place to protect the Comcast Network and Comcast High-Speed Internet service customers from the adverse impact that can result from intentional violations of the AUP and/or Customer Agreement. If you believe you have been the victim of activities which are in violation of the Comcast AUP or the Customer Agreement, the Comcast Network Abuse Department will take appropriate action to investigate and attempt to resolve the alleged violation.

If you feel that you have been a victim of Internet abuse which took place in part or completely on the Comcast Network, please report the incident to abuse@comcast.net . Make sure to include the date and time of the incident, log files, spam examples or any other information that may be useful to the investigation and verification of the incident as well as your name and phone number or e-mail address so we may contact you directly.

Listed below are typical types and examples of activities which are in violation of the Comcast AUP and the Customer Agreement. If you are unsure whether you have been the victim of Internet abuse, the following examples may help in your determination. You may also refer directly to the Comcast AUP and Subscriber Agreement

Electronic Mail Any e-mail related infractions. Examples include: Sending unsolicited bulk mail or 'spam'; sending e-mail that contains threatening, abusive, illegal or libelous material.

Instant Messaging Inappropriate use or misuse of instant messaging applications on the Comcast network. Examples include: Sending instant messages that contain threatening, abusive, illegal or libelous material.
Web Space Inappropriate use or misuse of personal Web space provided by Comcast or Comcast affiliates. Posting illegal or inappropriate material such as child pornography or material that violates the privacy rights or property rights of others.
Bandwidth, Data Storage and Other limitations Use of the Comcast network infrastructure in a manner that (i) exceeds the then current bandwidth, data storage or other limitations on the Comcast High-Speed Internet service or (ii) puts an excessive burden on the limitations of the network. Examples include: Using the Comcast network to run a Web-hosting server or any other commercial enterprise.

I've already sent my email to comcast.

What do I need to put in such an email?

I kind of doubt anything will actually come of sending comcast an email complaint. Likely they'll call him with an automated message directing him to call Comcast's customer support. If he actually decides to call the number, he'll get a confused customer service rep who doesn't know why the message was left. The rep. will probably assume that it was a billing problem. If it turns out not be a billing problem, the rep. will just apologize about not knowing why the customer was left the message. This is my personal experience as a former customer support rep. for Comcast. They leave these totally ambiguous phone messages all the time, and nothing ever comes of it.
