I picked up my preserved wedding flowers last night. A woman recommended by our caterer did a lovely job of drying the flowers from my bouquet and making an arrangement with them in a glass box. (Preserving the whole bouquet would have involved a display case of museum-proportions and we’re already scooting very close to the “wedding shrine” line with all the memorabilia displays people have been giving us.)

Anyway, she didn’t use all of the ivy from the bouquet, and what she didn’t need for the display she didn’t dry, instead she coaxed it to root and planted it. So when I picked up the display, she also handed me a pot of live growing ivy. [Cool]

I remember my mother-in-law got some beautiful hydrangeas to put on our cake. She didn't use all of them and so she planted the rest in her garden, so every spring she has a fun reminder. [Smile]

Wow! The thing I hate about boquets is that they shrivel and die, and she's taken care of that doubly! I think that's wonderful!

Dana, when some friends of ours got married, they had this beautiful tree of branches(shoots stuck in a big pot) with 1000 gold paper cranes hanging on it. (the bride was half Japanese)

At the end of the wedding, we each got a branch with some of the paper cranes. We kept ours for a while.

Some other friends who had gone put theirs in a vase, and roots sprouted from the stem. It turned out to be a corkscrew willow. They planyed it in their yard, and it gre huge. We took a cutting from their tree, and it is our son's tree. It is now about fifteen feet high, and starting to droop over, willow style.

So, short point made long, give a cutting to your family and friends as it gets bigger, and yur love will take root not only in others' hearts, but in their gardens as well.
