Tonight our Drama Club has its standard end of the year banquet. People are supposed to come dressed up as a movie or play character or some obscure media reference.

My plan was simple: black slacks, red dress shirt, a question mark hanging from my neck, and a sombrero--The Spanish Inquisition! (Or at least the vaguely hispanic people who question things). Didn't expect that, huh? Nobody does.

Anyways, I am abruptly lacking in the sombrero department. She who was to lend one to me found out hers was sold in a garage sale. I've called every single Atlanta area costume shop, I think, and they're all lacking.

My options:

1. Find something else that seems somewhat Spanish.

2. Make another costume, hopefully something that can be done quickly.

I will give kudos and a dead anteater to he or she who helps me.

Oh, at least my double is all ready. She's wearing a beret and turning in circles, for what would we do without the French Revolution?

Forget costume shops, look for a mexican grocery store. Or a party supply shop, like Party City, they have cheap costume pieces, usually. Good luck!

Um...the official head gear of the Spanish Inquisition was not a sombrero. In that get up, you're likely to be confused for the Mexican version of the classic Batman villain, The Riddler.

On the other hand, you could go as "the comfy chair!"

Not the comfy chair!!!

As I said, it's kinda "vaguely hispanic people who question things". It's all symbol stuff.

See, I don't know how to make myself appear genuinely Spanish. A cardinal's hat, I think, would be hard to find . . .

ElJay: I mean I've been calling every costume shop, including Party City, in a fifty mile radius. And the Mexican grocery stores I went to yesterday have nothing. So it's new accessories or costume ideas I need.

Where do you live Joldo? Have you check the stores on Jimmy Carter South of 85? There is a one big market by Long John Silver sells mostly Mexican stuff.

Gee, I thought Zorro was a good idea. Wear black clothes, a black cape, a sword, and a black mask, and you're done. [Dont Know]

Do you have time for this?

How about writing "¿Que Pasa?" on a T-shirt.

That's a Spanish Inquisition.

And it's a lot cheaper. Blank t-shirt and a fabric marker ought to do it.

Thank you all. I'm having fun putting it all together, with your suggestions in use. And I'll carry a rose in my teeth, to be a hot latin lover.

Accio: I live nearby to you, I think. My mom used to work with you. Nice to meetcha. I decided to go to Eddie's Trick Shop in the square and buy me a sombrero, along with a moustache. It's becoming the Mexican Spanish Inquisition.

My sombrero is about a foot and a half tall, and three feet wide. It is simply beautiful. Horray for Eddie's!

The banquet was a lot of fun. Graduates crying, lots of memories, all that stuff.

And I won something! I won best costume, primarily because of my sombrero. Which just proves the power of big hats.

Congratulations!!
You don’t use the other post name (A….) anymore?
You never updated us on your dog. I hope she came through ok.

My dog came through fine.

To be honest, I made this name because I've posted comments about the fact that I'm gay/bi under this screen name. My parents don't know, and since occasionally my mom checks out Hatrack . . .

Anyways, I'll probably post pictures when I get our digital camera working. I can't seem to figure out how to upload photos onto a computer.
