make for a freaking hilarious show. I loved it! Hitchhiker the Movie was as absurd as the books, and just right for a Sunday afternoon half-price matinee with the $6.00 jumbo popcorn plus free refill. What a bargain!

Nathan even liked it . . .

I don't care what the NYT critics say. It's gonna be a cult classic. As long as there aren't any sequels, prequels, or other forms of spatial anomolies.

I knew there was a reason I liked lemons in my drinking water so well - I wonder if I should start squeezing some on my head? Can you imagine?

I don't know, though - Arthur seemed rather too likeable, and Zaphod seemed a wee bit too ditzy. But, as absurdity and dry humor were key to the shivaree, what the heck!

Weird - your only two complaints were the things I liked best about it. For me, it was a see-once movie and then it's as forgotten as last week's M&Ms. But then, I'm not in the cult for ANY cult movies....

Oh - I'm not saying I didn't like that part - just from the "reader's purist point of view", the characterizations didn't quite seem to match what I remember reading.

Am I the only person who really didn't like the film?

EDIT: Or perhaps I agree with OSC- it was forgettable.

EDIT #2: Reading his review, I've decided although I also think the movie was pretty forgettable, I disliked it for widely different reasons.

Teshi, you're not alone: There were two threads the week it came out and hatrackers seemed split pretty close to 50/50 on like/dislike.

I enjoyed it, but don't know if it's something I'll wind up watching over and over like some movies. Time will tell.

I didn't care for it either. I hadn't read the books before I saw it and felt like it was all inside jokes. I might still give the books a try though. I know tons of people who love them

I am torn between wanting to watch it now and wanting to wait and rent it. People seem rather polarized on whether they like or dislike it. I have no idea what I'd think of it.

The only part that will stay with me is the looks on the mice' faces when they were getting tough. But to be honest, the last movie I saw that I loved was National Treasure, so maybe my taste is suspect.

The folks that didn't like this film are turds (I forget whether our resident Ebert and crew liked it or not),

But, it was light, clever, hopeful, and loving... throughout.

It also looked good. And, had some nice storylines that weren't overshadowed by stardom.

I done digged it.

I watched the early 80's BBC version this past weekend. I actually enjoyed it more, less rushed, and more detail given. Of course they had 3 hours to work with.
