Why didn't obi-wan kill vader and then together him and Yoda could have wiped out the sith lord?

A question to ponder.

He pretty much did. Leaving somebody, limbless and on fire, alone on a deserted lava planet, four feet from a stream of molten rock is pretty much killing them. He didn't know Palpatine was on his way. I think a better question is:

Why didn't Anakin just send Padme to get a freakin' C-section?!

I guess it's a dippiness factor, the good guys can't just kill the bad guys and get rid of them, no, that would just be wrong...
Other stories do that, I guess without such a cliche certain stories would not exist.

"He's like a brother to me. I can't kill him."

Or words to that effect.

I actually thought that was well done. He was at Obi-Wan's mercy, and Obi-Wan, having maimed him and left him to burn, just couldn't bring himself to actually kill him; he could only stand the burden as long as Anakin was the one who really did it to himself. Obi-Wan only cut him up when he had no other choice. I thought that was really good. And Ewan McGregor was sooooo good. He's really a great actor.

Yes. Exactly! That is just the beginning of my rant about the problems I had with that pregnancy, though; see my comments on it in the spoilers thread.

If Obi-Wan had killed Vader, we wouldn't have had 4-6 to watch . . . jeesh!

Is it so wrong that I laughed at this?

Sure. but the key word is SOMEBODY.

Darth Vader isn't just SOMEBODY.

Obviously not. He isn't some body because he doesn't even HAVE his whole body. Geez...

When watching the movie, or when reading it?

"Why didn't Anakin just send Padme to get a freakin' C-section?!"

It WAS a long, long time ago. Maybe contraceptive and/or advanced natal technology doesn't exist, all their efforts in that regard having been devoted to accelerated cloning.

In the book I got the impression a star destroyer was squating overhead and Obi had to run. Poor Padme, what a tragedy, as she says to Anikin, "It doesn't make sense, nobody dies from child birth on (whatever the capital) He really had to get twisted up to make his vision happen!

BC (note only source is book, though 7 VHS copies are in the MWR center at Liberty!)

Sorry to switch movies, but the real question here is "Why didn't Elrond just pick up Isildur and chuck him into Mount Doom, ring and all?"

When Anakin jumps to Obi-Wan's metal raft thing in the lava, he has to catch his balance. One well placed kick would have done him in.

Obi Wan appears to have let his feelings cloud his judgement. When Anakin leaps onto the hill, Obi Wan has the chance to stab Anakin, but instead he swipes and cuts both legs and his remaining arm off.

He then tells Anakin: "You were the chosen one! You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! I loved you Anakin, you were a brother to me!"

There's a lot of emtotion in that scene, Obi Wan's emotions got in the way of his duty, and thus clouded his judgement. He could not bring himself to kill Anakin. He was still alive when Obi Wan left, all though he was completely burned and alone on a rock. Perhaps Obi Wan thought he would entrust the Force to Anakin's fate?

I don't know the exact reason why Obi-Wan didn't kill Vader, but I am sure Obi-Wan and Yoda combined could have wiped the Sith Lord from the galaxy.

Doesn't that mean he is some body, as in not a whole body?

The obvious reason that Obi-Wan doesn't kill Vader, despite the fact that it is out-of-charechter for him not to, is this: then there would be no episodes IV–VI

Except for Mace Windu. And look where that got him.

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs in a swimming pool?

Bob.

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs hanging on the wall?

Art.

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs in a hole?

Phil.

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs in a pile of leaves?

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs lying on your front porch?

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs lying on a lava bed?

When Mace got defenestrated he fell out the Windu.

I already pointed that out, Pelegius, quite some time ago.

*looking back over the series*

why is Obi-wan such a pussy?

1. can't stand to fly.
2. loses (get's knocked unconscious) during nearly every battle.
3. appears to best his bro-in-arms and padawan (anakin)
4. and gets sentenced to 17+ years of dilligent communing-with-the-dead in the desert on tatooine?

baffling!

Question put to Director John Ford. "In the movie Stage Coach, which has the indians chasing the stage coach for days, why didn't the indians just shoot the horses?"

John Ford, "Because then we wouldn't have had a movie."

Darth Sidious could've handled Obi-Wan and Anakin together and regretably killed both of them. At the time of the movie, he is by far the most powerful Force-wielder in the galaxy and is, in himself, more powerful than groups of force-wielders.

He's able to pull the wool over the eyes of the entire Council, for what, twenty years or so? His apprentices are able to fight and kill Jedi, and force all but the best of them to defeat or stalemate or bitter victory (Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul). He's able to outfight Yoda.

I still believe Yoda and Obi-wan together would have kicked the crap out of him.

I know Darth Vader's really got you annoyed,
But remember, if you kill him, then you'll be unemployed.

Oh my Yo-da.

I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah.
Where it bubbles all the time
like a giant carbonated So-da.
S-O-D-A, So-Da

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log.
I asked him his name
and in a raspy voice he said Yo-Da
Y-O-D-A, Yo'-ho-Dah
Yo-Yo-Yo-Yo-ho-Dah

Obi Wan witnessed first hand earlier in the story that a living brain and heart can be encased in a mechanical skeleton. Obi Wan should have taken the stub of Anakin home and used him for a cute, though whiney, centerpiece on the coffee table.

Why were Darth Vader's only lines in the movie so cheesy and out of character?

Posted by CRash (Member # 7754) on :

(IanO, isn't that from a Weird Al song or something? He's so crazy it's brilliant.)

The thing is, skillery, I don't think Obi-Wan would be too eager to take Annie-stub home, considering the other mechanical creature he'd witnessed was clearly a demonic, rasping, lightsaber-wielding monster out for his blood.

Doesn't really matter, though, because Anakin turned out like that anyway...

Yeah. "Yoda", parody of the 70's song "Lola".

"A jedi uses the Force for defence only, never for attack." -- Yoda

If Obi-wan had finished Anakin, it would have started him on his own journey toward the dark side.

*Spoilers*

His lines seem perfectly in character to me... for Anakin Skywalker. Just because he puts on the mask doesn't mean that he morphs into someone else. The Vader we see in the OT is the man he became after decades. So it makes sense that the first thing Anakin would do is ask about Padme and express grief at her demise. Although, I admit, screaming "NOOOOO!" is kinda cheesy.

*End Spoilers*
