Tonight it begins . . .

My younger sister from Utah is visiting us for about 3 weeks. I pick her up from the airport tonight. She's traveling with her 4.5 kids. (Three girls, a boy, and a pre-natal-being-of-undisclosed-sex). She's staying with my Mom, next door. My other sister is moving up from Va. Beach in the next couple of days. She's bringing her daughter, and they will live with my Mom until such time as she is established enough to get an apartment or house of her own.

On top of that, my brother is having surgury on his back and mysteriously finds it more convenient to drive his two kids 8 hours across 3 states for free baby sitting for a week rather than pay for day-care or ask his in-laws for a hand.

So, I get to be uncle to 7 children for at least the next week, then to at least 5 for two weeks after that. I'm just glad they all want to stay with Grandma [Evil]

Seriously, though, the one I feel the most for is my sister from Utah. Here she was planning a nice visit with us and now she's going to be the one with all the kids full time. I have to work, as does my Mom, and my aunt (who lives with my mom) is physically incapable of being much practical help.

For my part, I may be insane, but I'm actually looking forward to it. I plan to take them all to Dutch Wonderland (it's an amusement park for the under-12 crowd), and to the park several times where they can run themselves ragged. In truth I'm a big kid myself and I can't wait to get them out flying kites and blowing bubbles and having water-baloon fights.

If I don't post for a while, will someone please do a google search for any reports of an unidentified body scotch-taped to a tree in a PA state park. It might be me.

It's amazing that your brother is still finding ways to take advantage of your mother.

But have fun with the nieces and nephews!

Yeah, it's almost like that has become the end, in itself, rather than a means to an end.

I think I'm pretty good at seeing things from different points of view, but his thought processes (or the lack) seem increasingly alien to me.

Thanks. I'm actually looking forward to getting to know the kids. I only get chance to see most of them on brief visits years apart. It will be nice to have my Utah sister's kids for a longer visit. And I'll really get to know my niece who is moving up here permanently.

When in doubt, leave a garden hose hooked up to the house and tell them to not get wet.

It'll keep them busy for hours.

Trevor, you're an awesome uncle. You can come stay with us and be Emma's honorary uncle any time you're in our area (and it looks like our area will probably be changing soon.)

Karl, have fun with the hellio- uh, I mean kids! I'm sure they won't try to take advantage of their uncle or anything, just because they'll outnumber you 7 to 1. [Evil]

Yeah, I am looking forward to spoiling them a little. And since they all live hundreds of miles away, I won't have to deal with the repercussions [Wink]

Anyway, I'm off to the airport. [Eek!]

Wow! My sister Kate's kids are well behaved. Even after a 6 hour plane ride they were pretty well behaved and tolerated being crammed into a car and driven all the way across MD and into PA. I was touched that they all seemed very excited to see me. I didn't think any but the oldest would even remember me at all. Even the baby came right into my arms and let me hold her and carry her to the car. [Big Grin]

My sister's flight was late and we're just now getting home. I've just shown them to their room in my Mom's house. (She's at work until about 7:30 AM). Now I'm gonna crash.

Luckily I was able to get tomorrow off work so I get to show them the town.
