The 2nd best Movie of the summer.

That is where I would rank THE ISLAND among the films I have seen, well shucks... this whole year so far, right behind BATMAN BEGINS.

THE ISLAND tackles very tough moral dilemmas and concepts with clarity, conscience and sincerity.

Yes, there are explosions and car chases but they are a fun, necessary part of the journey. [Smile]

The topics that this film comments on run the gamut: from stem-cell research, abortion and true human-rights to a scathing judgement on the self-absorbed consumer culture of the west and a celebration of the value and purpose unique to every human life.

Go see this movie and prepare to spend the night contemplating and meditating on your life and all human life.

Thank you Michael Bay!! [Hail]

Thats impossible, because Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the best movie of the summer...

Somehow, I doubt any movie directed by Michael Bay can tackle anything with clarity. To me, from the trailers, it looks like an interesting concept (although somewhat derivative of Logan's Run) turned into an overblown action movie. I might see it, but it's not high on my list.

You know, I have the crazy feeling that this film is a remake of something that has been done before...I can't identify it, though.

There was a movie called The Island: I believe it was Leo DiCaprio's first film after Titanic...

I think thats why I felt a little apprehensive about the movie coming in...

I would love to see a remake of Logan's Run. [Smile]

@Mabus:

You're right. It is a remake of a movie called "Parts: The Clonus Horror". I saw that movie on Mystery Science Theater 3000. It was unbelievably bad. This remake looks pretty cool though.

@RoyHobbs:

That was called "The Beach".

I'd be more inclined to see it if they weren't hyping the absolute bejeezus out of it.

Ironic neh? [Smile]

It is a combination of Matrix and the book Coma. Perhaps with a little Gattica thrown in... [Big Grin]

Holy crap, it just erased my entire post.

I wanted to say that I'd be less inclined to see the movie if Ewan McGregor wasn't in it. (Not "Star Wars" Ewan McGregor, 'cause I've never seen any of the movies-- I know, I fail at being a fan.) He was AMAZING and GORGEOUS in Trainspotting and Velvet Goldmine.

Actually, he starred with Christian Bale (Batman!) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in Velvet Goldmine.

All I have to say is that Batman's ugly in full facial makeup.

If this is the Best Film Of The Summer, they need to do a better job of marketing it.

I haven't seen a preview that's made me even remotely interested, which is bizzare, since I'm a fan of Sci-Fi and On-The-Run type films, and this seems to be both. But for some strange reason, nothing about this film is pushing my buttons.

I also thought "Logan's Run" when I saw the previews, and my ambivalence towards that movie might be part of it.

Parts: The Clonus Horror was awful. I hope this movie is awful too for being a rip-off of something so stupid.

It's got Michael Clarke Duncan in it, so I'll be there. Of course, my friend works at the theatre so I can get in for free...but...yeah, I'm not going anywhere with this.

Great cast, OK seeming plot, and Michael "I hate epileptic people" Bay all point to an above average summer movie.

Rotten Tomatoes is hating on my movie right now... [Frown]

I'm just into the not-beardy Ewanyness.

Who cares if it's a good movie.

Ni!

Michael Bay = Satan (generally speaking). The possibility remains that The Island is actually a good movie, but like many others here I think the previews make it seem like mindless, redundant, plastic cinema.

I thought this was going to be about Lost.

EWAN McGREGOR IN A WHITE JUMPSUIT!

Um, and a plot. Or so I'm told. [Wink]

Lots of actors I like in this movie (Sean Bean Djimon Hounsou(sp?) Steve Buscemi, MCD- I hear his scene is short but horrific).

The biggest recent movie it has something in common with , I think, was a movie last year by a director known for his surprise endings. Thing is, this movie gives away its surprise in the trailer, so.. *shrug*
