Or at least, that's what it felt like, wobbling precariously amongst the scaffolding, about 15 feet high in a cheap cherry picker. Occasionally getting zapped by poorly grounded Par Cans (which serve no actual purpose in the film course; since audio and film share some studio space, the Par Cans, with their gels are just there to make the audio guys feel like rock-gods.) and burnt by tota-lights, you quickly get an idea of just how much difference a few centimetres makes when trying to get even coverage of an enormous expanse of green stage wall and floor.

I guess we'll find out in a few weeks when we start shooting whether I've got it right or not.... [Big Grin]

No particular reason for posting this, it's just late here, I'm still at work and there's no point in going home until it's time to pick up my girlfriend from work at 11pm... [Razz]

What's the movie going to be about?

Music video clip - we've got a hip-hop artist and a balladeer both of whom my class will use some chromakeying for, so we're just getting it setup now...

It's part of the college I work for.

Sounds like a pretty fun job, Troubs, getting zapped and all. [Smile]

Kinda. [Big Grin]

I'm a bit overworked, a result of us being a relatively small college for quite a while, to virtually overnight become one of the largest training facilities in the Southern Hemisphere for what we do.

I'm hoping to get sent on a shake training course next month.

Cool. Didn't you say once that you teach Maya classes? Does your school focus on character animation at all, or mostly on the technical fields?

Zeg:

I don't do any of the teaching in the 3D field. Until yesterday I was the academic administrator of the 3D course. I provided direction for the course and administrative support, hired lectures, etc. But 3D is an area where I'm extremely knowlegeable without ever having touched the software myself. Years of interviews with the (fairly technical) magazine I write for, talking to the big studios like ILM, ESC, Dreamworks, Imageworks, etc have given me an in-depth understanding of the field.

I personally teach in the film and design courses which is an area I love to work in - I love 3D as well, provided I'm not the one who has to do it... [Wink]
