I wondered if Tom had sent you a request *giggle* Good way to make me look at the thread. [Smile]

We have a couple of pictures from the 4th of July when Tom's family also celebrated birthdays (and Sophie had her first piece of cake), but we haven't done our usual resizing and spot checking of them to get them online. We didn't actually do anything that we photographed for her birthday *blush* We took her out to the local restaurant and bought her a piece of pie. This weekend we'll have my family's birthday for her and my dad who is turning 50 and we're also taking her into the Picture People to have "professional" photos on Friday.

Speaking of, does anyone have any experience with them? They seem good, but I'm nervous that they're just a more expensive Sears-type photographer, which I'm not too keen on. I've been torn on whether or not to go with them, but finally made the appointment since they've been so willing to please each time I've spoken with them.

Edit:
These are the most recently taken photos, and they're from Memorial day. As I've noted in my journal, we've been remiss about taking pictures lately.

We seriously needed you around, CT. Welcome back!

Christy,

Our hospital had a deal with a local photographer to take pics at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. We did them with both kids and they were so beautiful. One pic was free, but of course we bought more.

I wouls suggest splurging, if you can. The quality was so much better than a Sears or even a step above Sears. The light was so soft.

The splurging I would've done was in the range of $500 and that just wasn't in budget, nor could I really find any reccommendations for children's/family portraits. I've been pretty disappointed.

There is an Express Portraits (local photographers) that we were looking at that was about the same price and quality that I was debating.

If only Mack were closer...

I want her to take pics of my kids for Christmas, we just have to figure out a time and place.

I think that Sara woman is an awfully amazing photograoger, too.

I love Picture People. Actually when the first came to our mall I didn't like the first photographer that they had but she didn't last there long. All my cutest pictures have come from them. And hey, I worked at Sears, some of their photographers can be good [Wink] Actually now that I don't work there I wouldn't go back! I made a lot of people disappointed when I quit.

But I've had good experiences with PP. I would love to have Mack take pictures for us too... too bad she is so far away!

Sadly, I think getting Mack out here to take pictures would be in the $500 range as well, ya know with airfare and all.

Still, if it were in the budget, I'd love to have Mack take pictures of Sophie as well.

I've asked my sister the next time we see her to do a photo shoot and she's an amateur photographer with a decent hobbyist film camera, and I'm excited for that, but I did want something for her 1st birthday as well.

And hey, I don't dislike Sears etc., I just think that Tom and I turn out pictures of about that quality when we're trying and I'm not much one for the prop poses. I'm glad to hear you've had good experiences with PP, Wendybird -- thanks!

Rivka, that picture's currently my work desktop. It took me about thirty tries to get that shot! She's a quick little devil and kept pulling them off before I could snap the photo. Oh, for another set of hands. [Smile]

Jay, I owe you a sonnet about your toe. I need to dig it back up.

(Scottneb and Jay: thanks, guys. *smile)

Hey, I wrote a sonnet yesterday. Weird.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

CT, I sent you the sonnet.

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

My toe is pretty much all better. All that’s left is the nail to grow back and the numb spot to get better. I wouldn’t worry about the sonnet with your busy schedule.
Besides, now I’m on to ankle problems!

They’re putting me in an immobilizer tomorrow for two weeks. Goodie.

Ouch! That has been a while with the ankle, Jay.

Well, we just got back from Picture People and I have to say that I was extremely disappointed at first. The first photographer we had was just not very good and missed some great shots. She also pretty much just stood behind the camera and let us do all the coaxing, positioning etc.

That said, we must have been her last shoot of the day and perhaps she was just tired. They did say that it was a busy day.

I really wanted a standing photo of Sophie and she wasn't cooperating -- it was the first photo we took and really frustrated me and the photographer and she said we'd go back to it afterwards. When I asked about it after our other shots were done, she assured me she had gotten one or two shots and we didn't need to reshoot. The one shot she got was no good and the posed shot I thought we got some good ones of was disappointing. The photographer also didn't understand/wouldn't take the picture the way I wanted for Sophie snuggling with her blankie. The picture she took is cute, but not what I wanted. We hemmed and hawed a bit and finally asked for the posed shot to be darkened. We liked it much better. We hemmed and hawed a bit more and they asked if we'd like a reshoot of that standing pose. We said yes, we thought we really did. The new photographer was a joy. She really wanted us to be happy and took about seven photos of Sophie standing and walking. Each time we thought we were done, she asked if we'd like to give it one more try to be sure we got a good one. We got two excellent ones. Yay! I was very pleased that they continued to work with us to be sure we were happy and feel much better about the whole experience. Boy am I worn out, though! And Sophie is napping as well. *grin*

I use to work at the JCPenney photo studio, and I love it. Of course my starting day sucked....it was 9/11...

I was taking the bus because my car had died, and I mmissed it so I took a taxi....me and the taxi driver just sat in the car, with the meter turned off in the parking lot, listening to the news reports.

Weird to think it was so long ago...

I loved working there, although the pay sucked. I LOVE kids, and we won all sorts of awards that year. Don't assume that a photo place isn't good just becase it is inside another store...it all depends on the photographer, ot the ocation of teh studio.
