I just had this sudden realization that I've never met one of my uncles. I've met his son (who died 2 years ago from a drug overdose), but I've never actually met my father's brother. And I actually can't even remember what his name is. I'm not sure if this is something that's normal when your uncle worked for the CIA, or if it's ever normal for that matter...

On my Dad's side of the family I've only meet one of his sisters. He has 2 other sisters and one brother that I've never meet. Plus I've never met his mother although she is still alive. I have meet his dad and stepmom though. They just were never that close.

On the other hand I see like 75% of my relatives on my Mom's side at least once a week.

I've met all uncles and aunts, but then all my relatives live in the same place (for the most part). I could see possible ways you could go your life and not meet an uncle though.

Not at all.

I have not met most of my dad's half of the family and that includes a few of his brothers. It's odd because I am pretty close to my dad.

*shrug* I've never met my mother's father or my mother's older sister or her children. I've met my soon to be stepfather once for a few minutes.

I just talked to my mom about it, too. I apparently have two aunts on my father's side that I didn't even know about...I suppose that is kind of what happens when the kids come from three different marriages...

Boris,
That is very strange. Find out from your parents what it is about you that makes them want to hide you from the rest of the family.

I once read a book where some kids were locked away in an attic, because someone stood to inherit a fortune if the kids didn't exist. The kids had to be kept hidden from the rest of the family. Eventually, their mother and heir-apparently decided that killing them off would be more cost effective than just keeping them in the attic. So she started poisoning them. Dreadful book, really. I think I was stranded in an airport at the time.

Anyway, I wouldn't allow myself to be led to any attics and you may want to send samples of your home-cooked meals to the lab for a toxicology screening.

Oh, and lock your bedroom door at night.

[Angst]

Flowers in the Attic

Google it sometime - that book has a HUGE cult following. Very bizarre.

I think it's more them not wanting me to know my relatives exist. My father's side of the family is...uhh...colorful (Ever seen Dukes of Hazzard? Yeah. My dad's relatives were the first group of white people in that part of Kentucky.)

Have you been tested for any latent redneck tendencies?
