A new IM client with voice chat capabilities...

Linky

I hope it proves to be as cool as their other products...

Another one? Yeesh. Aren't there enough chat options already? Doesn't look like they offer anything new.

I'm a big fan of Google, but their need to fit every niche is starting to wear on me.

I was all excited other clients could use the service. But that is only for text. For audio chat it is Windows only. [Frown]

*slightly mollified* Well, if I can IM people on it using Gaim, then it's not all bad . . .

Not only that, but they're planning server to server integration, and quite possibly integration with other IM services (these things are already possible with existing jabber servers, but google appears to have written their own).

That is, you'll be able to connect to other jabber users, who will have screen names like "bob@jabber.com", and you'll possibly be able to connect to other IM services over what is called a transport, with screen names which would appear as something like "bob@aim.gmail.com"

Oh, and for OS X users who wish to connect, I highly recommend Adium (which is excellent for other chat services such as AIM as well).

*amused, is strongly reminded of when service-to-service email first became available in the early 90s*

OH MY GOD. I was about to make this topic. Everyone needs Gmail and Google talk RIGHT NOW. It's great how streamlined it is. And the talking quality is better than phones by FAR. If anyone needs a Gmail account, I'll be glad to send.

Hamson, if you could be so kind...

Much obliged. =D

They're the next Microsoft!

*heads for the hills*

Somalian, I actually discovered I can't send out invites. But my friend still has a ton. I'm having him send one to you.

Wait scratch that. I think I can.

I would use Google Talk, but it looks to be a Windows only affair at the moment. Since I'm on a Mac, that's a no go. Oh well.

pfresh: you can use a variety of clients which work on OS X to connect to Google Talk (though no voice chat . . . yet). I suggest Adium or iChat.

Adium in particular is excellent as a multi-service client.

To do that though, I'd have to sacrifice my AIM account with iChat (since iChat seems to only let you have one account running at once). I guess I could check out Adium though.

Does it allow for like- chat options too- I just downloaded it.

You should be able to have both an AIM and a Jabber account (with gmail) connected in iChat.

I do like Adium, though.

You were right, fugu. I can have both my AIM and Jabber (with gmail) running at the same time. Too bad my Gmail list is empty compared to my iChat one.

Ok. I just discovered if you put the little asterisks around a word, or group of words, it makes them bold. And smileys automatticly turn blue.
