Are there any other new teachers this year? When do/did you start? I've been working all week (and it's just not enough to get ready) and we get students on Tuesday. It's crazy for me because I split my time between two high school choirs and KG/1st grade at three elementary schools. I drive around all day long.

I'm nowhere near being prepared. I think I might fall over. (I'm still at school right now, 5:15pm on a Friday night.)

At the same time I'm really excited. I've ordered music and gotten my class lists...I found big pieces of carpeting on freecycle for my kindergarteners to sit on during class, I sorted out my insane schedule, I have an office the size of a postage stamp and I'm getting all of that organized....I plan to have a really good time actually. [Smile]

How about the rest of you?

Nope, not this year. I'll probably be a new teacher in 3 years or so (assuming I get my master's done at the pace I want).

Still subbing. But I did get my middle school math and technology ed. certifications over the summer. That should make me more marketable.

I guess it's a blessing in disquise that I didn't get a job though. I really prefer finishing my masters without having a full time job.

Narnia, I know exactly what you mean! I am also nowhere near being prepared (and I am procrastinating on Hatrack instead of planning lessons). I have to get myself sorted this weekend. Year 7s start on Monday (and I'm a year 7 form tutor, so I'll be busy with that) and then everyone else starts on Tuesday. I have no timetable for my year 7s and no class lists for anyone other than year 7. I have only just got the details of what I'll be teaching year 8, and my first lesson with them is on Tuesday! Eeep! I also have no idea if my textbooks have been ordered, and I forgot to photocopy something yesterday so will now have to print 30 copies of it. Oh, and the posters I ordered for my classroom haven't arrived.

I'm still excited though. The school is great and the other teachers are a lot of fun to be with. We had a brilliant training day on positive behaviour management and then I went out with a few of the teachers for a curry last night, which was ace! Can't wait to meet the kids and get started.

I am, sort of! My new appointment is to a multi staff church and one of my responsibilities is adult education. And it’s a BIG church, with lots of programming. Mostly I’ll be co-ordinating, recruiting, and supporting volunteer teachers, but I will be teaching two classes and doing a series of “stand alone” workshops twice a month.

I'm a school librarian. Does it count?

Congrats, Narnia! [Smile] It sounds splendid.

I started teaching a grad class at a university that's not IU two weeks ago. That bit is new to me (new school, new level of students), so I kinda count. [Big Grin]

Anna, with what you have to do, it totally counts! [Smile]

Congrats on the new positions this year everyone! I was actually thinking of you amira because I knew we were student teaching at the same time. I'm glad you got a job!! And dkw, and Anna, and Megan...

Glenn, I think you'll be REALLY busy if you're certified for math. Holy cow. And pfresh, what's your subject?

My mentors warned me that it would be so easy to just work and work and work and not pay attention to time. They've all told me not to let my job take over my life etc. But they were right. I could just sit there and prep from 7:30 in the morning to 6pm without even thinking about it. There is THAT much to do. I'll be doing a lot of work at home this weekend too...d

Yikes.

(Megan, what class are you teaching and where?)

Give me 5 years, Narnia, and then I'll talk about teaching. That's right- majoring in Music ed and minoring in Math. I'm going for both.

2 and a half years and I'll be teaching. Hopefully in a nice little Michigan suburb.

Me, me!! I'm a new teacher! [Razz]

I just started teaching Theatre 101 as part of my TA requirements. Apparently this is a typical grad school move - take an innocent grad student with no teaching experience whatsoever, and make them completely in charge of 35 students' semesters with barely any supervision. [Roll Eyes]

So far, it's going pretty well. Or at least, it's not going badly. I think I'll get the hang of it after a couple weeks. Right now it's still kinda intimidating.

Narnia, I'm an adjunct at Butler University in Indianapolis. Fortunately, I'm only driving up there one day a week (cause that could get expensive quite fast).

Edit to add what I'm teaching [Big Grin]

A graduate theory review class called "Music Structures."

Ah graduate theory review. May I never have to take that. (good for you with the adjunct though! Butler's a great university from what I hear!)

Tinros, I'm a music teacher! (as is Megan!) [Smile] Two high school choirs and the rest is KG and 1st grade general music at the 3 elementary schools in my district.

*toasts all the new teachers*

*inducts them into the Association of Teachers with rituals that are never to be spoken of in public*

First day! [Smile] Good luck everyone (even if you've been in session all summer, or for a week or whatever)!

I'm so proud of all of you. [Smile] [Smile]
