Luck is a myth?! No! Next they'll be telling me that my lucky charms aren't magically delicious at all!!

:bump: To increase your optimism.

I've always thought that people create their own luck.

The only luck the Irish have is bad luck.

They aren't. They're just regularly delicious.

Ok, seriously. An Englishman went to Ireland expecting luck? The headline should read "Englishmen are bloody ijigts". Suren what luck they might be having isn't for the likes of him.

I have to agree. The luck of the Irish wouldn't apply to an Englishman, now would it?

I think John Belushi covered this...

quote:
Jane Curtin: And now we come to St Patrick's Day and John Belushi is here to discuss the luck of the Irish.

John Belushi: Thank you, thank you very much. Well it's come that time again, St. Patrick's Day has come and gone and well the sons of Ireland are basking in the glow. When I think of Ireland I think a lot of colorful Irish expressions like, "Top of the morning to ya," "Kiss the barney stone," "May the road rise to meet ya," "May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're dead," "I'd like to smash you in the face with my shalalee," "Danny-boy," "Bhagora," "Wail of the banshee," and "Whiskey for the leprechauns, whisky for the leprechauns." But the expression I think most people identify with the Irish, is, of course, the luck of the Irish.

The luck of the Irish. Sure. Let's say you're in a pub somewhere in Ireland, oh, anywhere in Ireland, some guy comes up to you and says, "Hey is that a bomb on you I hear ticking?" And then BAM!!! Your small intestines are on the ceiling and your brains are on your car across the street. That's the luck of the Irish for ya, who's kidding who, okay?

[Big Grin]

There's more, quite a bit more.

Belushi didn't need no stinkin' study. [Wink]

Skibbereen! They tested this theory about luck in Skibbereen? Have they not heard the song?

Since when is buying lottery tickets scientific research?

I bought a lottery ticket. Once. I didn't win. What a waste of a dollar! I never bought another one.

Somehow, I think I lack the temperament for gambling.

Were the tickets funded by some organization? Or is this guy just nuts wasting a TON of money?

Sounds like he has a gambling problem to me, and it just trying to excuse it with some "scientific experiment" explanation.

I thought the luck of the irish was covered under Murphy's Law....
