Yesterday, I rewatched Kenneth Branagh's amazing film version of Much Ado About Nothing. Then last night, I finished watching the last (for now) episode of Firefly with my partner.
If you haven't seen Firefly,

s p o i l e r s . Mal and Inara were incredibly reminiscent of Benedick and Beatrice. I wonder if Joss had that in mind. I realize that it's not an uncommon trope in literature, but it was more than just the denying their feelings thing. It was the repartee as well.
Has anyone else noticed this?

There was an episode in which he was talking about his order, and he said that there are some orders that allow marriage, but not his. I think he said he prefers the "narrower way" or something like that.

Yep. In "Objects in Space," he and Jayne are talking in the galley when River wanders through, and Jayne's expressing incredulity that shepherds aren't allowed to do "anything at all??," so to speak.
