I am getting ready to use an e-portfolios in a classroom setting. Right now the students are using freewebs , but that is more for general web-pages. I was thinking of using pupilpages, but it is cost prohibitive.

Are there any good free e-portfolios? I don't want to use generic web pages.

I am not sure what the operative difference is between an eportfolio and a webpage. I just think an eportfolio is a page that is designed to specifically showcase your work.

Most create-a-webpage sites, like myspace, are blocked at our school.

We use BlackBoard at my school, but I don't think it's free.

I created a yahoo group called eportfolio sample.

go ahead and join to see what it offers. It might provide what you are looking for. It is somewhat customizable (e.g., you can choose not to display the calendar, say, or messages).

I would envision each student creating their own group, and then all students joining each other's groups (if collaboration and community were part of it).

There are some limits on free accounts (amount of storage space).

MSN groups, Delphi groups, and others have similar free (i.e. advertisement supported) facilities.

Alternatively, you could create one group for the whole class, and then each student could have their own album and/or file folder.

This would probably eventually need to be a 'pro' account to get the needed storage space.
