The doctors think my Grandma had a small stroke early Saturday morning. Sometime in the wee hours, Grandpa got up to use the restroom and Grandma was partly out of bed but sleeping. He managed to get her back in bed without waking her.

When he got up that morning, she was on the floor beside the bed and unresponsive. He called for my aunt (they live in the same house) and she called an ambulance. When they got to the hospital, Grandma woke up but couldn't walk and was incoherent. Aunt called the rest of the family. Daddy and I loaded up the kids and made to 4 hour drive Saturday afternoon.

By the time we got there, Grandma was only slightly confused, calling me by my mother's name, etc. Of course, she's been doing that on and off for a couple of years now, though.

Saturday evening, she seemed like her old self. She had no memory of anything since going to bed Friday night, but remembered us visiting her that afternoon...though she thought it had been the night before. She was still a little confused about time.

Sunday she seemed okay, and we came home. She and Grandpa spend most of their days sleeping now, and I fear it will not be long for either of them. I think they are living for each other at this point, and if one of them passes on, the other will not be more than a week behind.

They're both in their 80's, and have lived long, full, happy lives. They have 5 children, 20something grandchildren, and 30something great-grandchildren, all of whom love their "Gramma" and "Granpa" fiercely. I pray that, when their time(s) come, that they go in their sleep on the same night, so neither will suffer. [Frown]

(((hugs))) My grandma had an incident last summer. They're not sure what it really was; something stroke-like, but they're not diagnosing it definitively. She's not allowed to drive any more and she's so much more confused and forgetful than she ever was. The good side is that she's in good health otherwise. But it's sad. It's hard, I know. But since there's not much one can do, we just try to enjoy our time with her.

My grandmother tripped over a chair at work last Friday and dislocated her shoulder. She's coming along about as well as can be expected, but there's a lot of bruising and soreness.
