I had never seen this show before, but I like sketch comedy, and dimly thought that I'd heard goog things about it, so I added it to my Netflix queue. It arrived the other day, and I watched the first episode. I didn't really care for it. Does it get better?

Yes. Absolutely. Seasons 3 and 4, in particular, are pure comedic genius. It's very hit-or-miss though, so if you don't like an episode, you really don't find it at all funny.
EDIT: The first few eps. of Season 3 are my favorites, but you have to be in a certain mode to sit through a whole disc of it.

I love Mr. Show, but I will second the fact that it's pretty hit or miss. Season 3 was probably my favorite overall, but I do get a lot of laughs out of the others, too.
Also, for anybody else who is thinking of renting it: Mr. Show can be very vulgar and offensive, with language, sexual humor, drug references, etc. So if you're looking for a family-friendly comedy show, this would not be it.
