hey ne one know if there r age restrictions for this great community, if so plz let us know ur thoughts.

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

No age restrictions, but we are considering implementing one for maturity.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

No. We just had someone post today who's below the age of two. [Smile] A few of our regulars started coming here when they were 11.

Posted by airmanfour (Member # 6111) on :

uh oooooh.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

You might want to delete the extra thread. Also, if you take a look at other posts, while we don't insist on perfect spelling, punctuation, and grammar, we do tend to prefer posts that are comprehensible.

Posted by Theaca (Member # 8325) on :

Really, people WILL take you/Heni/Rustaburger/etc more seriously if you put more effort into your posts. Being 16, being lazy, those are NOT good excuses. We have a lot of teenagers here, we've even had regular posters as young as 12, and many of them have been capable of postings that don't make the rest of us cringe.

Ok, the two year old postings didn't make me cringe today, I admit. [Wink]

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Often we are disappointed though.... [Wink]

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

Yeah, 2 year olds still have the cuteness factor that lets them get away with all sorts of things . . .

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

I'm 16. I use decent grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I wish that I could reasonably expect other 16-year-olds to do likewise. Those who don't do so make the rest of us look bad.

Posted by dh (Member # 6929) on :

It has little to do with age, I think.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

Mr.Funny, I don't think I knew you were that young. Probably cuz you don't act like it, eh?

Posted by Theaca (Member # 8325) on :

The fact is, when someone acts mature, we assume they are older. When they don't, we assume they are younger. I'm constantly surprised by people's ages here.

Posted by dh (Member # 6929) on :

that iz such a prejadissed pnt of viwe, lots of ppl spll kurrectly when thr 16! what do you mean by syaing he doesnt act liek it!

(I think I'm trying too hard, it doesn't seem authentic, somehow.)

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

Heh, that seems to be the common reaction on the 'rack when I mention how old I am. I don't see why people don't know I'm a kid, though. I've posted my age, or things implying my age, on several occasions. *shrugs*

I thought you were 17 or 18, I think.

dizzle yo?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I am 35, so when I was 16 the Internet wasn't something people had access to, and forum protocol wasn't a factor...

But at that age I wrote as good as I do today, although I did it in cursive as I didn't type well.

I guess some things haven't changed much after all, huh? [Big Grin] Most of my forum mistakes are typing ones.

It has less to do with age than it does with maturity, as others have said before. [Big Grin]

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

It's 'cause you call yourself Mister Funny. If you were Kid Funny, we'd think you were younger.

Aw, Tom, you beat me to it.

Posted by conan the buff (Member # 8826) on :

Hey, thanks for the constructive criticism. I guess I have been a bit lazy and i shouldnt be and just to let all of you know english is a second language for me so i think im doing well. I shall definately try harder in the future to use correct grammer and punctuation. soz. jk.
(couldnt help myself with that last part thought it would be funny)

Posted by dh (Member # 6929) on :

What's your first language, Mr. Conan the Buff? *suppresses giggles*

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

There may not have been easy Internet access 20 years ago, but there certainly was online forum access.

That's about when Prodigy started up.

And even without ieSpell or the Google-bar spellcheck, I think my spelling was fairly good back then. [Big Grin]

Posted by dh (Member # 6929) on :

Google-bar has spellcheck? [Confused]

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

20 years ago? 1985? Yeah, I was on a bunch of BBSs back then. Had been since . . . a while before that.

Wow. I really am old. Yikes!

Don't geezers have to be male?

Posted by Yopu (Member # 8827) on :

I think that's why we're called cronies, isn't it?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Eh? Speak up?

You call that music? That's just noise!

Why, the kids these days, with their crazy hair and their crazy clothes, and that noise they call music...

<Good golly! I'm channelling my grandfather!>

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

Geezerette?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Apparently they do (I just checked dictionary.com).

Umm...Relic!

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Ah, but am I an ice-age relic?

Older than dirt?

Antediluvian?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

People seem to always be surprised by my age.

I think it may be the fact that I married young and have a kid already.

Of course, some people who don't know that still assume I'm older than I am. [Dont Know]

Oh, well, I predict it will even out as I approach my "perceived age" in reality.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

rivka, you're not older than dirt, that would be my mom. [Razz]

You're just as old as dirt. *ducks and runs*

Posted by Yopu (Member # 8827) on :

Wow. HOw... Mean people are here. *shocked*

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

You know, if someone named their kid "Dirt", virtually the entire population of the earth would be older than dirt.

Also, if some guy named their kid "Kung Fu", he could go around saying "I'm the father of Kung Fu!"

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yopu, who are you all calling a ho?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

I'm going to try to convince my kid to name his kid "Invention", so I can go around saying that I'm the grandmother of invention.

Posted by Miro (Member # 1178) on :

I have conveniently defined "old" as anyone older then my sister (who is three years older than I am). Therefore, I will be forever young! [Smile]

Posted by Tresopax (Member # 1063) on :

While there's no age limit at Hatrack, there's definitely some people that will occassionally complain if you act too obviously young, use weird grammer, ask naive questions, etc. Although these people are being silly, try to humor them anyway. [Wink]

Mr. Funny: It just so happens that I know someone named Dirt. Dyrt, actually, but prononuced the same. He's my brother and was born on Earth day. And, yes, I believe most of us are older than Dyrt.

O_O

How old is Dyrt?

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

13

Posted by Alcon (Member # 6645) on :

Oh my... that does mean most of us are older n Dyrt. Cripes, I didn't think 19 was that old.

Posted by Stan the man (Member # 6249) on :

I feel older than my age. Probably has something to do with when I used to unload trucks.

However, I am told I look younger than my age. That wouldn't be such a problem, but I keep hearing guesses that are 7 years too low. Which would put me under 21.

Posted by littlemissattitude (Member # 4514) on :

Yeah? Well, I was born when Eisenhower was still president. For you space-age kids, that was before any thing , not to mention anyone, had ever been into space.

Signed, old and proud of it. [Razz]

I can't help but feel special when you guys discuss younger members who use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I think I do a decent job of it. Punctuation, not quite as much, but I do try hard to spell things correctly and make sure my sentences are logical.
