I decided, and JenniK agrees, that Thanksgiving this year was going to suck. I moved 1200 miles to FL two months ago, and my parents retired and moved to MI a few weeks befor that, and my sister, BIL, and most of the rest of my family lives in New England still...

But my best friend, one of JenniK's best friends, and a few other froends all live in this area, away from THEIR families as well.

So*, we are having Thanksgiving dinner over Kevin's (VelourMan) house, and I am cooking the turkey! [Big Grin]

JenniK has to work (Boo, Disney!) until the everning, so Kevin and I, and maybe a friend of Jenni's, will go over earlier, and cook over there, and we will eat when she gets there after work. [Big Grin]

This is a MUCH better soultion than eating out alone, don't you think? [Big Grin]

I think it's a wonderful idea. Where I grew up, all of my parents' friends were away from family as well, and we had a huge Thanksgiving dinner together. Great memories.

My friend Kevin is like a brother to me as well, and has spent 4 or 5 Thanksgiving with my family as well...whenever his family was away or he had to work and couldn't make it to their house out near Boston.

Kevin and I were roommates in MA years ago, along with a friend of his named Dave, and one year we had a friend die right before Thanksgiving. We got to talking, and Dave, who owned the condo we all lived in, asked if we wanted to have a "Pre-Thanksgiving" feast at home, because we were Thankful not just for family but for our friends as well.

We had a HUGE Thanksgiving feast two weeks before Thanksgiving, and we served about 35 people. We set up long banquet tables in our large kitchen, served two 25+ lbs turkeys. 15 lbs of mashed potatoes, and so much other food that it was crazy. [Big Grin] My parents came up from RI for it, and Kevin's from Boston.

Everyone came...except for Dave's parents. [Frown]

Still, he was happy it went so well, and I have always wanted to do it again. [Big Grin] My friends still talk about it sometimes, 10 years later, and my parents got to meet Kevin's parents, something we are very glad about. [Big Grin]
