I'm almost speechless.

The funny part to me was that he was afraid to eat the tomato ... er, tomacco ... because it might have lethal amounts of nicotine in it. [Roll Eyes]

The Wikipedia page is a little more complete. Apparently, the fruits themselves didn't have nicotine in them, and one actually was eaten. The leaves, on the other hand, did contain nicotine.
