Well I just go high-speed internet. The next day I got a virus that ate one of my config files so I had to do a system restore, now that I resatored the system its not working, but I'll figure it out. Anyway I was wondering if you guys had some suggestions for really good virus protection programs, I already have norton. (sorry if I use bad grammar or miss spelled any words but I'm a little to pissed off to care right now)

I have had systems were Norton really bogged down the system. I am no fan. I use F-Prot and love it. It is very easy on my computer--doesn't use a lot of system resources, has been reliable, and I get it free from my job.
I have used Norton, Command, McCafee (sp?), and F-Prot. I like F-Prot the best, by a large margin.
I also think it is cheaper then the other three I tried.
My 2 cents.

Update, update, update. First thing you do as soon as the OS is up and running and you have an internet connection, update that sucker.

F-Prot is a good one, and has been around since...forever (I was using that about 10 years ago). AVG is the best I've seen (Haven't seen F-Prot in action lately, though.). I've run scans with AVG shortly after using Norton to find out that Norton mission 50-60% of the Viruses on a computer at any time. And, if there is a virus running in memory, Norton does nothing to fix the problem, aside from giving you removal instructions. AVG, on the other hand, fixes most viruses it finds on the fly. It's also very light on system resources, and doesn't screw everything up nearly as much as I've seen Norton do that. Then there is the fact that AVG is free. That's another bonus.

I found a program called Spyware Doctor that found a bunch of stuff on my system and i was wondering if you've heard of it?
Also if you can post a link where i can AVG free because I think thats one of the ones i passed up because it costs money. (man running in safe-mode sucks)

I wouldn't recommend Spyware Doctor. PC Magazine gave them high marks, but they were apparently the only one. Here's a PC World Article about them. Try one of the other two programs listed by them.

Sounds like AVG is the way to go. You can't beat free!
I would also suggest that after you update everything you create a limited account. Keep your admin account password protected and only use it to install stuff. If anyone tried to install anything on yoru limited account, they will not have access rights.

Funny I just saw this thread yesterday and got the first virus I've ever gotten on any computer earlier today. McAfee found it and killed it, it was some sort of Trojan called "wonka."
