I got my acceptance letter from my first choice college, Macalester (in St. Paul, MN) today!

Just thought I'd share the good news. [Smile]

Also, it was an early decision II application, which means that technically I've already accepted the offer of admission. Do I have to withdraw my applications to other schools, or can I wait to see if I get in and then just not accept their offers if I do? I applied to Tufts and Brown, and I'm pretty curious as to whether or not I'll be admitted there, even though I'd (clearly) much rather attend Macalester.

Congratulations!!!! I can't help you with your questions though. I've never taken college courses on a campus setting.

It would be, well, rude at best not to withdraw your other applications. Remember, if you get accepted, that's someone else who -doesn't- get an acceptance letter.

*high5s* cool!

Part of me agrees with ambyr.

At the same time, if you get into Brown or Tufts and they offer money, you can use the scholarship offer for haggling purposes. [Big Grin]

He really can't haggle -- by applying early decision, he made a legally binding commitment to attend Macalester.

My brother applied early decision and didn't withdraw his applications from the other schools. He didn't get in trouble or anything, but at the same time it is a rather rude thing to do, as ambyr pointed out. Just because you won't get in trouble doesn't mean you should do it...

I don't see the harm in seeing whether or not you're accepted. You've already paid your application fee and gone through all the work to apply. Once you do find out, let them know immediately that you won't be attending. That way, somebody else will quickly get your spot.

And congrats!!! [Smile]

Have fun, go to class, do your homework, explore the world.

That about covers it. [Smile]

Congrats [Big Grin] . Macalester's an awesome school - I remember getting their brochures in the mail years ago and being impressed, even if I didn't end up applying.

I would join the congrats, but I'm a little cautious. Do you know what you will be majoring in?

Congratulations! Macalester's a great school. I applied a few years back. If I remember correctly, Kofi Annan went there.

Congrats Dragon!

Tufts would have been cooler, IMO; I live 5 minutes away, and could show you how cool Davis Square is.

I could see it being advantageous to find out if you were accepted to the other schools in case you wanted to transfer or go to grad school there or something.
