Last week, I applied for a job that I really want, and am marginally qualified for, although I am on the low end of experience. I linked them to my portfolio, and yesterday someone looked at my portfolio. Sadly, I have not gotten an e-mail from them. I'm wondering if I should give up hope, because if they looked at it and I haven't heard anything, I guess they decided not to contact me. [Frown]

The control panel for my site gives me site statistics, and I have the IP address. How can I find out who the IP address belongs to?

www.arin.net

Go to the 'Search WhoIs Database' field, and type in the IP.

Most likely, though, it won't provide you the Info on the person, but on the ISP to which that IP is registered.

This site seems to give you a geographic location for the IP address you have. That still doesn't tell you who it was that viewed it though, so it may not be helpful.

pfresh's site said it couldn't find it.

Geographic location would be fine. Arin said it was Arizona, which I suppose is possible if someone stumbled across it, but is very unlikely.

My old IP always said it was from a different state than I lived in.

I still can't find exactly where the IP is from, but I looked at another part and it said that there have only been three entry pages, none of which were my portfolio. If it was the job I applied for, the entry page would have been my portfolio. I don't think it is them.

Which means that it's been a week and they haven't even looked at it. Oh well. Maybe they are waiting for a set time period to be over before they start going through resumes.

IPs show you where their ISP or server is located, which means that it can be well off where they are. You can contact the ISP and ask for the information based on the IP address you have.

Kat,

Open up a DOS prompt in windows and type in "tracert <ip address>" The trace route tool should give you the domain names of all the hops. It should at least give you an idea of where the data was going through.
