On this site you can enter your address and a google map will pop up with your house as a small house icon and red, blue or green dots surrounding your entire neighborhood, indicating rapists, child molesters, and the like.

When you click on these dots a picture of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she had committed.

And then they probably send you mailings, since they have your address.

It's a little disconcerting to see how many of those little dots center around elementary schools in the surrounding cities.

I am horrified. It turns out an old family friend has been convicted of indecent sexual contact with a child. We've had her in our home many times. One of her kids used to be good friends with my little sister. This just makes me sad on so many different levels. [Frown]

My, they have my uncle listed. Guess they keep you pinned for the rest of your life. Considering the conditions he was under, it's too bad that he'll have that for the rest of his life, it might seem.

Well, actually, I entered my crabby neighbor's address. [Evil]

Nevada doesn't participate. That is not surprising. If it takes work, this state will let someone else do it. I would be surprised if our sheriff even knows about his deputies.

There is an offender-free zone near all our local schools. Surprisingly, even though that's the law. Of course, there was a whole scandal about high-risk offenders being relocated from motel to motel every 10 days or something to avoid giving notification, including across the street from schools and stuff... But there aren't any cheap motels in my neighborhood, so I'm pretty sure that wasn't here. Besides, they did an expose on that and I'm pretty sure they got in trouble for it.

What does "sexual misconduct with a minor" mean?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

I'm guessing child molestation or statutory rape. What else could it mean?

Wow - my old address won't go through.

There are two in my apartment complex.

Just be careful, and read carefully. Included are those arrested for indecent exposure, not a horrible thing if children are not involved.

Posted by Risuena (Member # 2924) on :

The thing that disturbs me the most is that there are three or four addresses within a couple miles of me that all have five or more sex offenders. I don't want to go near those complexes. [Angst]

The dots are placed rather haphazardly on the Maui map. Many of the offenders appear to live in the ocean.

I put in my daughter's address on the mainland and saw that several of my former neighbors are listed... pretty scary.

From the house I grew up in, there is absolutely no one for miles. That entire section of town is empty. It's almost odd.

There are none within a mile of me, and not very many nearby at all. I'm somewhat surprised, actually. The last time I check Minnesota's list there were quite a few, but that was several years ago.

Its is the ones that have not been caught yet that I worry about.

I don't know, but to me this just seems to be creating more fear rather than making us more aware and cautious. I mean, most of these people, it was for minor offenses. I don't think it's a good idea to just make people more afraid.

But, that's just me.

The closest to me is about a half mile, for child pornography (and I knew she was there from when we discussed this at Halloween). One thing I'd like to see on this (or other similar sites) is where schools and parks are located AND the buffer zones that are required by law. I think in Illinois it's 1000 feet, which I know isn't much at all, but there's one near our old elementary that I think might be awfully close, and I didn't see any of the parks marked at all.

That's why I didn't look at any dots except the red ones. [Smile]

I couldn't get this one to pull up my address, maybe I don't really live here?

Goody, I recieved one like this (I'm guessing since I haven't been able to look at this one past the search page) in an email and as you zoomed in, it allowed you to see schools and such. It might be worth a try for you to try zooming.

As far as creating more fear, I'm of a mind that knowledge is power. If I have the power to protect my children, then I'm all for it (even if it does make me afraid).

So what is "gross sexual imposition"?

Posted by Stephan (Member # 7549) on :

Where does it stop? Should residents and banks be made aware when someone who spent time in jail for robbery moves in? How about murderers? Carjackers? I realize rape and anything sexual with minors is horrible, but whats the point of sending them to jail if they are treated like they still belong there when they get out?

Hm. Oregon doesn't publicize yet. That's rather interesting.

No one listed close to me, but I've got other things in my backyard.. Murder, suicide, child abuse, slavery and lynching to name a few!

Currently, aiua? [Angst]
