Actually, they don't have to be that clever and I'll probably still enjoy them. Here are two of my current favorites (they make me giggle every time I see them.)

Nextel Walkie Talkie Dance Party
Volkswagen Golf 'Un-pimp My Ride'

My favorite one of those is the second one where she says "It's really sucking!" with that hilarious German accent. [Big Grin]

Have you guys seen any good TV spots lately?

Those are funny! [Smile]

My favorite commercial of late is the Domino's 5-5-5 deal where the dad figures with all the money he's saving he can splurge on "lamp time". [Big Grin]

Clever? I don't know about that, but I do enjoy any TV commercial in which a dinosaur unexpectedly stomps on a caveman.

You know, I would like to see this as the next episode in Geico's caveman commercial line.

My favorite current one is for some candy bar. The tag-line is "Comfort In Every Bite". It has the candy bar complimenting and flirting with a guy who was just rejected by a woman. "You are a buffet of manliness."

*giggle* Yeah, that one made me laugh. Out loud.

I actually like the one with the guys in the locker room, where they're one-upping each other, and then one of them throws his cellphone in the other guy's face.

That sounds horrible, described like that, but it had me laughing out loud. My partner told me it was one of the Superbowl commercials, but I'd only seen some of those. This one was uproarious.

I liked the M&Ms commercial where the M&Ms are sitting around eating M&Ms and a guy says, "What are you doing?" They switch packages and keep eating. He takes the packages away, and as he walks out, says, "That's just disturbing".

And there was a Snickers commercial just before the 2000 elections where a cartoon donkey and elephant are arguing at a guy in the voting booth. The Gore-donkey said he invented the Internet. The Bush-elephant said he wears the same size pants as his dad. The Gore-donkey says he invented pants. And so on.

But then there are the really, really, sad and stupid ones, which more than make up for any entertaining ones... <sigh>

The VW ones are my favorites on right now. I saw the one Narnia mentioned for the first time this last weekend while my in-laws were visiting - they thought I was insane when I went back with the DVR to watch it again. They've done a couple others that are also really funny - but I think the one with "Mike" is my favorite so far.

Lisa, are you talking about the cell phone commercial where the guy says his phone has an anti-theft device? Then he tells the other guy to try to take his wallet, and when the other guy does, he throws the cell phone in his face?

That was hilarious.

I rather like the Hummer3 commercial with the giant robot and the pregnant godzilla-esque monster walking around in love until the monster gives birth to the Hummer3.

So did VW give up on those disturbing commercials with that black thing that influenced those people?

Does anyone have any clue whatsoever what those were about? Because I must've seen different variations more than a dozen times and still don't know what they're trying to advertise besides implying that VW is freaky and supports dark ideas?

Thanks, Cecily! That really was hilarious!

My favorite one right now is either Disney or Universal Studios, with the little boy who's too excited to sleep. His voice is adorable.

Ni!

I adore that Nextel ad - my favourite guy is the one sitting with the boombox. [Smile]

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

Hamson, you didn't like the 'fast' VW ads? It took me a bit to get them, but I thought they were pretty good. "My fast doesn't always get along with my girlfriend." "My fast thinks delivery is for the weak!" I always giggled at those.

I saw another great one this morning that I was going to post about, but I forgot. Drat.

This Honda ad is several years old and it has been posted several times already on Hatrack, but I am always amazed by it.

Yeah, that's the one. Sometimes something is so funny and so surprising at the same time that when you laugh, it's almost like a shout. That's what happened when I saw this one.

This Starbust commercial is sort of funny. "What if you had no friends."
And also that Skittles add when they were sitting on the rainbow and it broke when the guy said, What if this rainbow doesn't exist.

Have you guys seen the Aleve ad with Leonard Nimoy? "I can't do the live long and prosper sign because of my arthritis!" I thought it was cute. [Smile]

Posted by Synesthesia (Member # 4774) on :

I like the one where the woman was rubbing chicken everywhere. It was funny.

Posted by Hamson (Member # 7808) on :

Narnia, is that what it's about? Crazy. It just seems like a bad idea for an ad campaign because if you don't get the commercial, it just seems like there's a weird dark overtone to it.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

I know. The first 'Fast' commercial I saw was the one with the police officer. I really didn't get it until I saw a different one with the same little red-eyed monster.

I keep seeing funny commercials and forgetting about them before I can post! Drat! [Smile]

How might one go about finding a commercial?
There were some fabulous ones, all by the same company, at the super bowl last year. Some sort of bank or.. Something financial.

One had this guy walk into a convenience store, talking on his cell phone. He was talking to a friend of his about the friend’s new deck. Something about, "He's robbing you." In the meantime, the cashier is listening, not seeing the phone, and hits the guy with a fire extinguisher (or something painful like that) and then sprays him with pepper spray..
I laughed.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

Wow, that does sound funny. I've never seen that one.

I usually google commercials, but you can often find them on that company's website. Hollywood video had their "60 second theater" radio spots up on their site for a long time after they stopped airing. Alas, it seems they are gone now. [Frown]

There is this commercial which I've seen only sans sound, where a colony of gophers manage to bury and enormous SUV. I have no idea how this commercial is supposed to make people want to buy this SUV, but I always think "way to go gophers". If only they could bury a few hundred thousand more.

*giggle* The tag line for that is "Every big family will want one." Your philosophy is much funnier though.

(I have no idea when I started knowing so much about commercials. I need to read more I suppose...)

I see that commercial on the Food Network a lot, and it really bothers me. It makes me physically ill. I think it's a pregnancy thing.

Eh, I see no harm in posting up a few.

Britany on NASCAR
NASCAR site ones.

If you can't tell, it is racing season. I wish I could get the new ones for this year, but they aren't available yet.

The Geico 'Tiny House' is the best. I honestly think there's a Fox exec who said 'Damn! Wish I'd thought of it' every time he sees it. Their Old Navy spoof was great too.

The chicken one nauseates me as well. Effective, though . . .

-o-

I was watching TV last night when I saw an ad that just killed me. It was a Bud Light ad, where a young office worker is in the elevator, telling his boss how he spent the weekend hiding bottles of Bud Light around the offices, suggesting that it would build morale. Then the doors open, and you see all the employees ransacking the place, punching holes in the drywall, uprooting potted plants, fighting over a bottle, etc . . .

I just googled for it, and apparently it was a superbowl commercial, but I watched the superbowl, and don't remember it. It would have, hands-down, been the funniest of the lot, I think.

Found it:

I know the subject says 'TV', but I just completely misheard a radio commercial and thought I'd share..

What I heard:
"New breast designs! Not just insulation and decoration, they’re useful too! Free installation if you mention this ad!"

It was supposedly for a windows and siding commercial.

The Netflix ones with the movies in human form
Cracks me up.

Icarus, I laughed my head off when I saw that ad during the Super Bowl. It really is hilarious, especially when the boss gets tackled at the end. [Smile]

I loved Magic Fridge.

I also like the Big Beer Ad (Edit: Changed link to google video).

And finally: Running With the Squirrels.

Ricree, those were hilarious. I love the magic fridge one, and I always wanted to watch it again. The only problem, however, is that whenever I click on the Big Beer Ad, it sends me to a site that makes my browser quit. So, if you could find another site that has that commercial, it would be awesome!

Ok, the newest one I saw this weekend:

I think it was for some kind of energy drink and it showed this guy building all sorts of scarecrow robots. The narrator kept encouraging him to 'take back his land' and all the while it shows the crows being speared, vaporized and fried by these different robots. Finally, the narrator says "and don't stop at crows! Foxes. Squirrels. Hippies."

I laughed like crazy.

I love that one! That is my favorite commercial of all time! I'm so glad someone else remembers it...I'm also amused that they got to keep running it right on into December [Big Grin]

*giggle* I just found these TBS commercials advertising their run of the LotR trilogy this weekend. Be sure you watch them all, they are hilarious. (I love "Frodo" and "Hunks.")

The milk commercial where there are two people from another planet on an expedition to get the "wonder tonic" from "The Great Da Iry." HILARIOUS.

I saw another awesome skittles commercial recently:

That beard is creepy, but I think I could be friends with it

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

I love the new Orbit commercial where the guy stares at his white teeth in the side mirror of his car while crashing through three blocks' worth of businesses and museums. *giggle*

Posted by SoaPiNuReYe (Member # 9144) on :

The Nextel commercial where the guy opens the door and everyone is dancing to the Beastie Boyz is a total classic. I could not stop laughing when I first saw it and I still laugh when I see it.

The new Geico ads are slaying me. My favorite is the one with Burt Bacharach.

"I was hit...in the reeear."

[Big Grin]

I like, of course, the Leasvertnaughten thing. "Do it! Leasvertnaughten time! Do it!"

I've gotten quite a laugh at a couple new Verizon commercials, actually. The one with the mafia guys asking "You get service out here? Do you guys work down by the docks?" and the one with all the network folks hiding as the girl gives a guy the brush off by saying her network doesn't work.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

On the other hand, I despise the new Progressive commercials with the moron in the stadium. They should have gotten someone who didn't sound like an idiot. Drives me crazy.

Then there's the Little Richard Geico ad. "WooooooOOOO!" [Smile]

Posted by OSTY (Member # 1480) on :

I love the starburst droping in acid comercial. The guy puts his first arm in and then its gone and then puts his other arm in. Ends with the other guy rolling up his sleave to go in after it.

Posted by Synesthesia (Member # 4774) on :

I love that Cell phone ad with the kid yelling at her mother.
"You never hated me and you never will."
It makes me giggle
The starburst ad scares me.
