Nintendo's announcement

Not really a surprise, since everyone's been speculating in the $200-$250 range, but it's nice to finally have some official word from Nintendo instead of guessing.

Wow. I might actually buy this. I have a PS2 and enjoy it very much, but there's now way I'm paying $500-600 for a PS3 when it comes out.

$200 seems pretty reasonable though. Not cheap, but reasonable.

Sounds great to me. Now, if only I can afford all the games I want to get on launch...Metroid Prime 3, Wii Sports, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Maybe more when I hear more about them.

Ack! That's way too many games then I can afford! And add into that all the cool looking ones coming out in the FUTURE and games that haven't been announced yet. Ouch. Looks like I may have another DS situation on my hands. *still doesn't have even half of the DS games that I really really want, not to mention the ones that I sort of want*

But I'm looking forward to it. If Metroid Prime 3 is the only game I can get at launch, and Fire Emblem was the only one in the future I would be happy.

I'm looking to probably spend close to $500 at the Wii launch, between the console, games, and extra controllers. Between this and my trip to study in Tokyo this summer, my bank account's going to be hurting.

Yeah, I'm wondering if the extra controllers will cost more than normal what with the wireless motion sensors and all. At least one of the games I really want is a 4-player party game sort of thing, so I'll need the full set.

I've also heard that the Wii is probably going to be able to interact with the DS. I hope that works out better than the Gamecube/GBA situation. Of course, even if they just let you display the DS screen on your TV there'll be some draw for that. NintenDogs on the bigger screen for extra cuteness, even.

The foreign prices that have been announced have been roughly the equivalent of $225, and systems are usually a bit cheaper in the US, so most likely the range is from $200 to $225.

I suspect that Nintendo's been managing expectations like crazy in an attempt to prevent people from assuming too low a price point and then getting annoyed at a higher one, hence why they've come out saying the max will be $250.

Fugu, that's sort of my thought too. Plus, if they say $250 now and then closer to launch say $200 or $225 they get a chance to build up some extra goodwill because people will see it as a price drop even if the price was never really $250.

I thought this will be one of those "64 KB is all you'll ever need" angry-threads...
