Is anyone seriously con fan fiction? I mean, I'm not into it, but I don't see the harm. Chris said not to get into it on his column thread, but I wanted to see what these fireworks are that he fears to unleash.

We had a big thread about this about a month ago.

Some of the issues were artist's control of their characters (ScottR was big on that one) and that it's a waste of a writer's efforts (a point that OSC has made).

Then you have authors like Eric Flint that encourage it, and have included a lot of it in short story collections he put out.
