Hey Hatrack! I'm hopelessly behind in my education, because I'm not really sure what a blog is like. I was inspired by Mary Pipher's "Writing to Change the World" to find out more about blogs and see if they are the right kind of thing for the Insect Advocate.

So... my questions. How do you set one up? Do you have one and why? Can you refer me to some examples of really good blogs? Are they worth the time to read? Are they worth the time to write? Anything else?

Create an account. If you consider yourself interesting enough to attract a steady readership, go for it.

Setting one up is best done as cheiros indicates. I sort of have one (or several, really), but we'll go with no [Wink] .

As for really good blogs, part of it depends on your intention. For instance, I find 3yen (not linking due to often inappropriate content) a great source for interesting and bizarre Japanese things, but it has few other redeeming qualities.

I find Scott Adams' Dilbert blog a great way of keeping in touch with a certain mindset, but he's often longwinded and pretentious (generally also funny, though).

I find Dare Obasanjo's blog chock-full of interesting commentary on modern ICT events and practices, but if you're not interested or knowledgeable about such things it would look like so much gibberish.

I don't regularly read political blogs, I have enough touchstones that I hear of anything big and can keep track of the small stuff I'm interested in by other ways.

Oh, I read the Pepys blog, you might find that interesting: http://www.pepysdiary.com/
