Why would my computer act like I'm typing like this:
quote:
W@hy w2o9u7ld my co9mp0u7te3r4 act li8ke3 I*'m typ0i8ng li8ke3 thi8s w2he3n I*'m no9t typ0i8ng anythi8ng bu7t le3tte3r4s? when I'm not typing anything but letters? It's not num lock because it's doing number that aren't even on the letters. It's kinda irritating to have to keep going back and deleting all the extra characters every time I type. I tried rstarting my computer, but it didn't help. It only started this morning.

Hmm, looks like it's only doing it on the top row...acting like "qwer" is the numbers 1-4 (and vice-versa) and "uiop" is 7-9. It doesn't do it to punctuation (like the square brackets), unless it's punctuation made by shift-number (like both parentheses). Any ideas?

Never mind, it went away all on its own, like hiccups. I just hoped that unlike hiccups, it won't come back again.

Watch it go away while I type a post in the Harry Potter thread:
quote:

Is that weird or what?

Check for viruses? Sounds like some script-kiddie got something on your system.

Or a borked keyboard. Quit drinking those sodas when you're working! [Big Grin]

From what I see, it looks like what happens to me when I hit an adjacent key along with the one I mean to hit. To have that happen for so long is very unusual, though ...

Probably just a temporary hardware glitchy thing...it fixed itself, at least, for which I'm grateful. I *know* I'm not that clumsy when I type!
So I'm going with the borked keyboard hypothesis. Though I know it's not soda-drunk-while-working: I don't drink soda, I don't eat or drink around my computer, and I'm definitely not working on here! [Wink]
