It really scared me at first (at my family's farm, outside at night, alone, no flashlight...suddenly I see this giant red thing in the sky...) Actually, it was terrifying.
But anyway, sorry to bring the news AFTER it happened, and not before...oh well. It was cool.
According to my uncle, it happened because the moon was crossing through part of earth's shadow, the part that's red (....?). Interesting.

aHA! I was talking to my friend while sitting outside and I kept on saying "The sky looks really weird". Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed something amiss.

The reason the moon looks red during a partial eclipse is the same reason sunsets are shades of red into darkness... because the red lightwaves are the longest we can see with the naked eye.
And I agree, it's kind of freaky looking when it's your first experience!
